The majority has voted to reboot PANE. This is the discussion thread on what we want to see. Here's a few questions we should discuss:
1. Do you want to keep Furoh?
There is a lot of history in Furoh. Years and years of people adding stuff made it what it is today. We shouldn't be too quick to throw all of that aside. Perhaps all we need is to tell new stories in this fabled land.
On the other hand, perhaps its time for a new generation to make their own Furoh, so to speak. Maybe a new setting is what's needed to revitalize activity.
2. What do you want to see, storywise?
Though PANE doesn't really have a main story, there is usually some setting that helped set up RPs. Originally, PANE took place 50 years after 5 trainers founded the main cities of the continent. The Lenoilia incident helped set up some conflict and history that could be explored by players. Team Deception was later introduced; they were featured in lots of RPs (some memories bittersweet, like the Deceptcopter or something :P). Are there things you want brought back? Anything new you want to see?
3. What do you want to see, mechanics-wise
I haven't heard anything bad about our leveling system (at least, I don't remember). Basically, half of the levels are distributed based on writing quality, encouraging players to write reasonably detailed posts. You could say this was an edutainment RP! A portion were based on participation (You didn't leave the RP for an extended period of time). Another portion was based on battles. If there was something that I would change, it would be this. I feel this forced players to find a reason to battle. Sometimes, fighting won't solve your problems. I don't want to discourage peaceful RPs, so maybe base these points on some other factor?
I think my responses to 1 & 2 are tied together; I think that it would be cool if some event drastically changed the face of Furoh, this would allow people who wanted to keep assets to be able to do so, but it would allow an essentially different setting. Perhaps some ecological disaster, or some sort of coup of the government. A time shift may work too, this would likely give another nice, refreshing feel to Furoh, but the greater the time shift, the less assets can be reused (though it might be cool if it was set in the time of the ancient civilization that has been mentioned several times instead of in the future). Maybe combining both ideas would be something along a rip in the space time continuum, causing Furoh to amalgamate multiple time periods into one.
Mechanic wise, I have similar sentiments with Toogee's initial suggestion; I would suggest instead of battle as our third criterion, we change it to Pokémon Utilization; instead of solely pokemon v. pokemon battling, it could also be pokemon v. nature conflict, flying around or surfing on a pokemon, and pretty much any other important activities carried out by a pokemon. Perhaps this category could be organized so that these levels can only apply to the Pokémon that actually carried out the activity.
After reading Jonahman10's post I agree with a majority of what they said when it comes to keep the Furoh as it is but then making adjustments to it. When it comes to it could take place farther a long the history of Furoh. As Jonahman10 mentioned maybe after another historical event happened. This could give a opportunity for a fresh start and new characters to start their stories. At the same time some of the old history of Furoh can be references back and depending on which want everything goes for technology, even open up opportunities to jump to other points in Furoh's history. I don't think we need to keep all stories to just one time frame in the history of Furoh. Another event that could happen is new places emerge as well which gives new locations and expands Furoh.
As for the mechanics, I'm going to be truthful even when I first joined and tried to understand the full mechanics of the rps, it left me a little confused. I can't really give a big opinion of this section since I didn't completely understand how it was set up but with that one mechanic that Toogee would like to change I may have a suggestion. Jonahman10 mentioned to have it switched with various other ideas, my question is does the third criteria need to be only one thing? The other two seem completely universal for all rps so I was wondering if the third could also be that. So it would include battling, maybe Pokemon contests and other ideas suggested by Jonahman10. This way it could be unique to each rp and it doesn't nessarily mean that there needs to be Pokemon battles, there could be contests, or other activities.
For 1 and 2, I really don't have any opinion. Keep Furoh or start something new, it doesn't really matter to me. Anything for the story works for me as well, although I do think that there needs to be something that can more easily tie all of our smaller stories together, such as a lead-up to a larger event? Also, having the timeframe set just after some kind of major event in Furoh would give us an easy starting point.
For mechanics, using Pokemon utilization as the third criteria would be a great idea. Most of the time there would still be battles, but having the option to do something else would be nice. Also, sometimes I felt that leveling up my team took a long time- with RPs lasting for at leas a few months, having only 15 levels to split up among 4 or more Pokemon wasn't very much. You could get around that by keeping your team smaller, but that left you with fewer options during the RP itself. I don't really know what to change in regards to the levels, though.
1. I honestly think that some massive impact would be great for the storyline - some governmental scandal or something that disgusts the people and makes them move, due to the stubbornness of the rulers, perhaps. Furoh certainly is a great place, but it has no extreme terrain. I want volcanoes, I want glaciers and ice caves, I want gigantic underwater cave systems and, uh, maybe a futuristic area with floating islands and hoverboards. Yeah, that'd be good. Furoh is great, but I had no part in creating it and I think that many people who played PANE are part of that same demographic.
2. There's no real specific story I want here. Make up your own, I'll go with it.
3. The levelling system was good but very slow. Though I never actually finished any RPs (people leaving sucks) I've seen how little people level up after each, and I wish that were fixed.
Also, I agree with the above post about Pokémon utilisation. My character, Andy Brunaire, actually grew up living with Pokémon, and holds them not as allies but as friends. It'd be cool if your Pokémon could have a type of personality diagram, or even a moral compass based on your interactions with them. Just a thought. Maybe it's a bit sentimental, but whatever.
Either way, I'm building another Andy Brunaire, but centering him around fire types. Fiery-tempered on the outside but under that shell there's a lonely kid, tightly bonded to his Pokémon friends, looking to protect them from any malevolent outside influence.
Seems like it'll make for an interesting backstory.
So right now, the consensus is to keep Furoh, but continue the storyline in some way. I was hoping to hear from those who voted for the reboot, but they seem to be gone now. For now, I'll address the ideas presented so far.
1. On rip in space-time continuum: I could see this being a thing. I'm not sure how to implement it. Would trainers all start in one time or would they be all over the place? Would certain parts of the continent be in different times, so if someone wanted to go to a city to get a gym badge, they could only go to the city in the past or future (when the gym might not exist)? There might be something here, but it should be explored more.
2. Political intrigue: We never really set up a governing system in Furoh. We pretty much assumed the cities ran themselves and everything else was essentially wilderness. Perhaps after some tragedy, there would be a demand for a national government to protect trainers. There would be those opposed to such a body, fearing the restrictions that would come up. I've never done political intrigue, so these are uncharted waters.
3. On leveling: Let me ask this: what would be your ideal timeframe to reach a team average of level 50? Using this, we might be able to determine how many levels should be gained per RP.

I'm not entirely sure, but Scott's first RP started in November 2013 and his most recent one ended in March 2015, which is a about a year and a third. During that time the tea received 44 levels from 3 RP's and another 10 from the fanfic contest, which brought the team's average level from around 7 to about 21.
Not including the levels from the fanfic contest, the team could have gained a max of 45 levels in 16 months, which is 2.8 levels per month. It would take a single Pokemon about 14 months to hit level 50 if it got all the levels at that rate if it started at level 10, a team of three would take triple that (42 months) and a team of four would take four times as long (58 months, nearly 4 years), assuming the same level of activity was kept over the entire time.
If the levels per RP total were increased to 20, you'd have 60 levels in those 16 months, which is 3.75 levels per month. It would take 10 and a half months for one Pokemon to go from level 10 to level 50 at that pace.
At 25 levels per RP, you'd be getting 4.68 levels per month and it would take 8.5 months to hit level 50 with one Pokemon.
In other words, going from 15 to 20 levels took 3.5 months off the total time, but going from 20 to 25 only took another 2 months off, so there are diminishing returns as you increase the levels higher. I don't know what the optimal levels per RP should be.
As for story ideas, I really don't have any......
Building onto the natural disaster idea, an extreme climate change could also be something plausible.
I mean, lets think about it. What could possibly bring forth snowstorms, tsunamis, eruptions and landscape changes? Legendaries. How would those legendaries suddenly show up, you ask? Well, conveniently enough we now have a Pokemon that can simply summon them out of thin air and make them do its bidding (according to Bulbapedia anyways).
So yeah, lets say Hoopa Unbound somewhat got loose and is now wrecking havoc. Kyurem turns either the south or the north into a frozen landscape, Kyogre floods some random place and makes a new bay, Groudon makes a small scale eruption occur and stone spires pop out in the desert, Celebi or Shaymin or something turns half of Petropolis into a scene straight out of The Last of Us (my personal favorite idea out of these, tbh), etc.
When everything's said and done someone manages to seal Hoopa back into its weaker form (could make a sort of legend out of this, like "oh the champion totally did it"), lock it away in some shrine, probably at the heart of Mt Carello (if that's even possible seeing how that bugger can just teleport) and save it for some future event if we can get those to work.
After reading everything, I'm going to attempt to tie all the ideas together. In addition, this should tie into where we left off in the last event RP. A lot of this are ideas (especially in the Aftermath section), I would really like some feedback to see if people like the direction.
Here we go:
That works for me. It also gives me all sorts of ideas for what happened to my previous characters, and how I can tie them in to whatever new character I create.
Yeah, I like it. Do you already have any of the federal laws planned?
I'm perfectly fine with that, but I'm curious as to what the restrictive laws around exploration and battling are.
I have some laws in mind, but nothing concrete.
A trainer can only keep a maximum of 6 pokemon.
All trainers must use government-approved pokeballs. These pokeballs will send pokemon capture information to servers to ensure no protected species are captured. An unforeseen side effect: the selling of apricorn pokeballs has been made illegal.
Trainers with pokemon above level 40 must be reissued a new license subject to interview and testing.
In the event that a trainer has committed a crime, any and all pokemon on his or her person may be confiscated at the discretion of the arresting officer. Pokemon will be returned pending a hearing by a judge.
Obviously, these will be plot rules, not actual rules for the RP. As for how these will be enforced...*shrugs*
It would be really interesting if someone made a character who was an enforcer for Trainer laws. In fact, that seems like a really good idea......
Also, would there be any conflict between the new set of trainers and all the people who are completely against the training of Pokemon because of the events 20 years prior? It almost sounds like a setup for a civil war. That would be an interesting event.
In addition, if there is a license limit of level 40 before you have to get a higher-level license, there should probably be a third level as well- maybe 65-70? Since at that point you're getting into the area where you could challenge even some of the strongest legendary Pokemon, especially with an entire team. Considering level 40 is around the level of some of the lower-end legendaries, it makes sense to put another limit at around the strength of the bigger legends.
One question, though- what about the non-Trainers who use Pokemon for their jobs (a moving company who uses Machoke, for example, or a dairy farmer with Miltank)? What happened to them during this timeline, and are they subject to the 6 Pokemon limit even though they aren't trainers? Maybe you need another license to have more than 6 Pokemon, which takes a long and difficult process to get?
This seems to have stalled a bit, but I have to say I approve. I can imagine my character's family farm becoming quite a large corporation over this time period, being able to supply food in times of the shortage. (also it seems Gigarte and Lenoilia seem to have triumphed over the sins of Petropolis once and for all! Though I would imagine the Gigarte Biodome underwent severe damage.) 45 year old Amelia, hm...
It will be interesting to see how the events will be remembered, because not everybody will have witnessed all the events. I can imagine the general populace was left somewhat in the dark about what actually happened. And some sort of organization/religion trying to collect and ply all the Azure Flutes.
Hey guys, been a long time since I've been here mainly because Pokemon muse dried up, but I am dropping by with a spark returning one more, and I see this.
In my opinion, I think its time PANE and Furoh moved over to its own forum like a ProBoards mainly because of the traffic this site is getting and its difficulty to advertise a place like this when its only a subforum.
I highly doubt PANE would be any more successful on a random forum than here. I just don't see us getting the traffic. If we put it on another forum, it would be an established one with an active RP section. Also, Furoh isn't my creation, so I wouldn't feel comfortable taking it and putting it elsewhere.
I'm also not sure if there is still an interest in this. I've been busy, so I haven't really been able to build this. Sorry to say, I'm not really pumped to get back in the mod seat and run this.
If you really want a pokemon RP, I can recommend some places if you PM me.
