Since it's showing the same numbers for all of us, I assume it doesn't have anything do with us individually. Perhaps it's counting total interactions site-wide since the reset?

It increases 4k every five minutes, roughly.

I don't see a pattern.
Average...735 counter clicks per minute. Too much for hatched eggs, active users...I'd say views, but that's even too much for that. Maybe just times the site is loaded? About 480 users online at this very second, so that might be it? Although people are probably clicking stuff more than just once a minute.

I don't think so. Go to the stats page and compare it to the stats for total Pokemon, total eggs etc, and the totals are much higher than the current counter. It's too low for both claimed Pokemon and eggs and too high for unclaimed Pokemon and eggs.

Well, wouldn't it be a huge disappointment if in the end, something very insignificant happens. Maybe there's just a little notice up top that says "Hooray!" or something like that.

It would be mean to not have anything happen after all this suspense and excitement, so... I expect at least some sort of special thing happening... Even if it's just a change of the Latest Update header. >.>

How do you know it's slowed down? At first it was updating every five minutes. Now that it's going more frequently it would be natural to assume that as speed of the updates increase, the amount of points per update decreases. So it may very well be going at the same rate as before.

Has anyone been timing the rate of increases?

If it remains constant at ~4000 every five minutes, and it's at 70,000 now, then it will take 45 five-minute intervals to reach 250k. That's 225 minutes = 3.75 hours.

In other words... ooh... almost 5am server time?

It's an interesting thought, but it would have to be someone who is clicking a LOT or someone hacking the site to make their click counter go up.

Maybe Professor Cypress is going to finally click people back to a total of 250k. XDDD

Honestly though the first thing that snapped in my mind when Wymsy said It is a mystery was this:

December 20th: It is a mystery- 10000 clicks

Obviously, it probably is unrelated to the Pokemon handed out that day, but I'm thinking along those lines and wondering if it is going to be a Pokemon given out to people with that total of interactions, whatever it may stop at?

Random thought: The counter, while I initially thought it was clicks, is going up a bit too fast for that I think. Might it be pageviews? That would mean it's go up 1 for viewing the person, 1 for the pokemon, and 1 after a click. That could explain how it's rising so fast. After all, as of now the top 10 clicks for the day stretches down to 748, which isn't nearly high enough to see some of the numbers we're seeing in the counter (75,000+)

When someone buys an item the shop gains money, when it's sold something back it loses money. It's more likely to BUY something then to sell because usually we only sell randomly found items and makes it less likely.

I am going to throw out some numbers here, just too keep everyone thinking.
According to the "stats" page, between 1:30 and 2:00 there were:
4,421 views
14,369 unique view
20,088 interactions

At 1:30 the Mystery Counter was at 62,989.
At 2:00 the Mystery Counter was at 80, 294.
So, between 1:30 and 2:00, the Mystery Counter went up 17,305.

Whatever is happening, it's slightly less often than interactions, it seems, so that rules out page views or refreshes. A combination of "views" and "unique views" (I never understood the distinction...) might be close, since the counter updates slightly before the stats page, so my figures are not perfect. But it's already been said that it isn't that, I think. So I don't know. o.O Very curious, though. I would have been in bed an hour ago if not for this.

I noticed something more! look! they took out something to put that sign there! they took out the "how to get legends and novelties" remember? for new comers they kept that there but its gone! so maybe it has something to do with that! (good thing I don't have work till Saturday and I'm done with school, I can spend the next day watching this)

I was stalking the shelter and saw this when it first came up. I figured out in 30 minutes:
*It goes up a fair bit every time it changes
*It changes on the same time clicks are processed (this could be done to reduce server lag however)
* It's a mystery. How many times have we heard that in an event?

My guess (though it prob isn't right) It's a (re)distribution of a mystery pokemon. How it's going up I don't know, but I also observed some changes in the message.
I found that at the end it went from ...? to ?. That happened at (I think) 100k...

went to the stats page and added up unclaimed eggs and pokemon but it wasnt a match, nothing on the states page is matching up in a sensible manner

Maybe the counter is the amount of points someone wins somehow? That's the only thing I can think of.

I can't feed any Pokemon today, I am only able to warm eggs. I wonder if it has something to do with this "counter".

Has anyone noticed something similar?


Maybe it counts the total number of users, who have signed in since the reset?

well from the facts that we know

*not views
*not interactions
*the counter stops at 250K (not sure if its true)
*the numbers go up about 500-700 every 5 mins
*the number changes every 5 mins like everything else
*it took away the legends/novelty link

and I dont think they would give that many points up for the "winner" when we dont even know how to win. That would be mean and stupid

ps I dont think its users who logged in cause its only been 4 hours and the most users on at once was only 500 and to top it off there are only 30,629 users according to stats page

The counter just went down!!! the counter has just dropped in number!

it was 138 then 137 now its 139??? maybe it was a mess up?
