Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ News and Updates _ Month of September

Posted by: Commander Wymsy Aug 31 2013, 09:56 PM

So, right away for September I want to tell everybody about the IRC. We have gone through and updated the rules, as well as clearing all of the current bans. Even the stats bot will be starting over (and it'll run stuff for each individual month instead of the length of the log it's using). With this reboot to the IRC, we encourage you to come and join us for all discussion Pokémon and otherwise!

For me the IRC was a great way for me to chat with many regular members of the site casually, so I would love to have that again. I'm sure most of the other staff would, as well. Over time a lot of the people in the chat drifted away, and now seems like the best time to give it a proper revival. Please come join us, we'd love to have you around!

All of the information about the chat you need, as well as a Mibbit link so you don't have to download a client to join in, is located on the http://gpxplus.net/chat of either GPX+ or GTS+.

So there isn't a Trinket set since I've either been busy or gone for most of August. I'll be working on the next set though, along with additions to the October set. Submissions may open up later in the month. If they do, that would be your last chance to get new stuff into the October set until next year.

We're working hard on preparing for all of the new stuff gen 6 will have to offer, and hopefully we can have gen 6 things on the site a little while after Pokémon X and Y come out next month. An entire gen means suddenly having a bunch of new things to collect, as well as new Explorations and features/updates appearing on the site during the months after the initial release. Won't that be exciting?

So, with all of that said.... here are the Special Explorations for this month:

The Hidden Ruins - Regi Trio
King of the Temple - Regigigiaghisgiauasgdusagdusagusagas
Summon the Hero - Zekrom/Reshiram

Choose wisely.

Sad face, nothing I am totally interested in going after again.... however, I do hope you all come around the IRC. It's so very lonely... so cold.. so dead...

Posted by: Mizuiro no Yume Aug 31 2013, 10:56 PM

Mmm... I guess I'll start with Summon the Hero this month and decided later on which other do~

Posted by: Rhapsody Aug 31 2013, 10:56 PM

Well, this will certainly be an interesting month. Here's hoping that college treats me well. Man, does Gen 6 come out next month? Time flies. Now I have a time to hoard trinket chests, I guess.

Looking forward to seeing all of you in the IRC, too! (:

Posted by: Synx Itax Aug 31 2013, 10:56 PM

I'd love for the IRC to be more active. It'd give me a reason to use it again. >_>

Also yay explorations. Might try for a shiny Zekrom again.

Posted by: Jen Aug 31 2013, 10:56 PM

Already camping out in the IRC. COME CHAT. ^_^.gif hehehe

Let's see... summon the hero is always really easy, i think i will go with that.

Posted by: Manticore Aug 31 2013, 10:56 PM

MOAR GIGIGIGIGIGIGIGAS! Yaaaay!

Posted by: Moonblast Aug 31 2013, 10:56 PM

I'll check the IRC out, though I'm shy, so I may not talk much.

Posted by: AmyL Aug 31 2013, 10:57 PM

I love new months!

Posted by: Lini Aug 31 2013, 10:57 PM

Sweet, I get another shot at a shiny Reshiram this month!

Posted by: pochamachan Aug 31 2013, 10:57 PM

Ooh, Gen VI stuff sounds exciting! And yay, there's two special explorations I still have legendaries left to collect from this month again *v*

Posted by: Darth Krytie Aug 31 2013, 10:58 PM

I'm glad for the month to concentrate on the ninth set of trinkets. Also, explorations are always fun. Hopefully, people like the new chat.

Posted by: Yenkiss Aug 31 2013, 10:58 PM

Welp, time to make a start on getting zerkrom

Posted by: SilverLugia456 Aug 31 2013, 10:59 PM

I don't know which explorations to choose this month xD and i can't wait for all of the new stuff, its going to be awesome!

Posted by: Galahawk Aug 31 2013, 10:59 PM

Time to go back to using the IRC for a little while and then never using it again, haha.
Maybe I'll try being more active this time.

Posted by: Fletchling Aug 31 2013, 11:00 PM

Hooray for IRC!

Posted by: Shaedra Lux Aug 31 2013, 11:00 PM

Maybe I'll manage to do one of the special explorations this go round... if I leave the IRC long enough.

Posted by: margo Aug 31 2013, 11:04 PM

Hm... haven't done the Regigigas explo yet so definitely doing that. And though I do need two more Regis from the trio, I think I'll do StH anyway as I want that Zekrom for a Black Kyurem, and just use a voucher for one of those Regis.

Posted by: Kathrine Aug 31 2013, 11:06 PM

It's September already?! >< *major headdesk* Oh nos sad.gif I don't really use IRC as I really don't know who to chat with :p But anyways, the new IRC looks cool happy.gif

Posted by: Shashy Aug 31 2013, 11:07 PM

Sweet! Gonna go for StH (Reshi) and Regigigas. Birthday Month + SWSH = Busy.

Posted by: Dandy Aug 31 2013, 11:56 PM

Oh sweet new exploration.

Posted by: Sociopathic Sherlock Aug 31 2013, 11:57 PM

My birthday month <3
:'D

Posted by: Vande Sep 1 2013, 12:11 AM

YES - thank you for Summon the Hero.

Posted by: PokemonMaster3000 Sep 1 2013, 12:19 AM

I need Regirock so after this I don't need anymore special explorations until Gen 6 is out.

Posted by: Zac11th Sep 1 2013, 01:42 AM

Already done with Summon the Hero ^^ 34 minutes. Not the fastest but pretty fast grin.gif Anyways, lovin the explorations. Gotta check out the IRC!

Posted by: Teen Bulma Sep 1 2013, 01:52 AM

yaaaay, I hope I can tear myself away from AC to do these explos in a timely manner

Posted by: Silberchen Sep 1 2013, 03:57 AM

Ah sweet, more Kyurem. And then some Regi... hmm, can't decide.

I'll see about the IRC once I get back home, but I don't exactly have a lot of spare time atm.

And Gen VI is way too far away for my liking. shakefist.gif

Posted by: Captain Epic Sep 1 2013, 06:13 AM

Looks like I'll be doing Summon The Hero for Zekrom happy.gif

Oh blimey, I haven't been on the IRC for years. I'll have to check it out again sometime happy.gif

Posted by: Tyranisaur Sep 1 2013, 06:37 AM

Seems like the most interesting thing for now is the IRC, I'll be sure to join that when I can.

Posted by: Samoo Sep 1 2013, 09:03 AM

It'll be nice for more people to join the IRC.. haven't been in for a while (well, just been in earlier), left it because it started to go dead..

Will be nice to chat to some of you lot :)

Posted by: koolchick Sep 1 2013, 09:18 AM

Well a month or so not needing any legendarys then new ones come out. I'll probably be like I was with gen 5 not bothered til they get added then want them.

Posted by: Nikki G Sep 1 2013, 09:29 AM

I'll try to use IRC again, getting into the swing of things socially again. Yay for booming activity - and maybe I can get a legendary I need for my dex this month if I'm not lazy!

Posted by: Luneon Sep 1 2013, 11:28 AM

Sounds like a plan.
I'm running out of people to talk to and I'm really hoping to see some old faces again cat.gif
(I didn't forget~ ^^<3)

Posted by: Mars Adept Enten Sep 1 2013, 11:57 AM

Nice, an Explo that I don't have all the possibilities for. grin.gif And yay for the new chat system. Haven't been on there for forever.

Posted by: Nish Sep 1 2013, 01:47 PM

not a fan of the irc, but i'll have a hard time choosing the explorations i'll do, since i haven't done any of the 3 yet... but i already got a zekrom from the legendary ticket, hum...

Posted by: Darkcapricorn Sep 1 2013, 04:15 PM

It is kind of hard to pick which to start off with, but I pick the Hidden Ruins as my 1st one. I might take a peak at IRC see what is all about just might enjoy it who knows! Only warning I'm not too much of talker, but I may never know unless I try I guess. Love the fact that it is getting close to Gen 6 Pokemon I can not wait on it. I'm head over heels for that day to come!

Posted by: Kelleo Sep 1 2013, 09:34 PM

Ooh, a chatroom reboot? Nice! I'll join in sometime. happy.gif

I dunno if I'll submit a trinket this time though. It depends if I can come up with an idea for one. I also may or may not do a special exploration. xP

Posted by: Velocity Sep 2 2013, 04:40 AM

I'll be doing Summon the Hero and The Hidden Ruins.

Looking forward to next month and everything it has to offer. Good luck to all the staff working on 6th gen and I look forward in seeing all of your hard work in the coming months.

I'll try to be active in the IRC, once I actually figure out what I'm doing wrong (having issues). But I look forward talking to you all.

Posted by: the1stpkmnfan Sep 3 2013, 06:54 AM

Yay! I can now get the last member of the Regi try: Regice!

Hopefully the Kami Trio exploration will come around again in October.

Posted by: Mamanator Sep 3 2013, 02:49 PM

I just finished, my first time through it, the Summon the Hero exploration. Oye! While this was my best special explore time it reminded me of one thing (though I don't think I can say it here as I recall we're discouraged from talking about the tasks themselves) that I seriously detest. *sigh* And yet, I managed to finish it in a very healthy time as summoning a hero calls for much determination and I had that when it came to certain trials of the explore.

The next one I'll do (after a short "commercial break") is probably The Hidden Ruins as I've never attempted it. While I gave away my Regigigigigias when I came back to GPX I want to do the explores with multiple choices before doing the Solo Hits.

IRC eh? Not sure I can do or participate in that but, if time ever permits, I could look into it further. It sounds like many members like that feature though so.. kudos to having it up and running [again].

*EDIT*

I just finished "The Hidden Ruins" exploration. And may I say... wow. Sweet and thanks! I really enjoyed that exploration as I didn't have the frets and moans I had during the previous exploration. Can't wait until this one comes 'round again so I can collect the other two Regi legends. love.gif

And the SWSH is up!

And boring. I've only got about 30 shinies, and I have all 3 of them...

Can we bring back Eevee or something? I think that with that many variants on it, and it being the most popular shiny EVER, it should be a SWSH every month, so that even if you've got all three, you can get another variants...

Anyway, this sucks. Do i hunt another Magikarp for no point, just to get the bonus, or do i not bother, trust i'll get the bonus in the safari zone, and just do other hunts...

There are hundreds of other things. It is only fair to give everything a chance before even thinking about doing repeats. Eevee is widely bred so there is a constant supply of them. It is not hard at all to shiny hunt a few more outside of the realm of the SWSH. It's one of the easiest Pokémon classified as Rare to shiny hunt solely because of the massive supply of them. Not doing repeats also helps with giving a chance to some slightly less popular Pokémon that are not bred as much to get some spotlight.

Well, the SWSH is set up to not repeat Pokemon, so Eevee won't come back around. It's true that it is very popular, but that's all the more reason to give other Pokemon the chance to be shiny hunted. If we eventually go through every possible Pokemon, then sure, Eevee might be repeated. But it'll be a while.

if I have all the Pokemon in a SWSH, I just hunt one that I don't have a pre-evolution for (since I evolve all my Pokemon all the way). Otherwise, I wouldn't bother, but SWSHs are special, I guess. Your choice, of course. wink.gif

Edit: Ninja'd by an incredibly fine commander. She also made some very good points.

Cheers Wymsy & Synx... I know... just annoying - i like the SWSH, but when this sort of thing happens, it's just a bit of a let down. I'm sure it happens to people every time, which is why i suggested something where even if you've done it five times, there's reason to do it again... Nothing to do with supply or availability - i know that by now, if i'd wanted, i could've got every eeveelution... and I'm sure some have. just an annoyance when even with comparatively few shinies in my dex, there's no point to doing the SWSH.

Heavy risk, but the Prizzeee.

Um. What I mean is, you could hunt the shiny for the prize you get for winning it and the prize points, which are fairly useful. I'm at the point where literally any shiny hunt chosen will be for something I already have. (As I've got shinies for everything that's eligible right now). Actually, I don't remember the last time there was a shiny I didn't have up for the hunt picks. I still go for it because prize points and a free novelty or item or something in the end. Next time we have a hunt, Gen six should be out and I'm betting people will be picking something from that list.

QUOTE(Synx Itax @ Sep 11 2013, 11:16 PM) *
If we eventually go through every possible Pokemon

For what it's worth, we almost certainly won't. We go through 3 Pokemon per SWSH month, which is every other month, so 6 months a year = 18 SWSH Pokemon per year. Thus, even if Game Freak had stopped making new generations after Gen 5, we'd still be set for another 13.83 years (so 2027, roughly).

New generations are introduced about every three to four years (we'll call it four for the math's sake), so about 72 SWSH Pokemon per generation. On average, new generations introduce 58.4 evolutionary families. So if Game Freak continues everything at the current average rates, we won't catch up for another 76 years, with the introduction of a theoretical Generation 25 in the year 2089. That would be 1460 evolutionary families for us to have hunted before running out and having to start giving things second chances. (For what it's worth, at that point we would probably have over 3200 Pokemon, so it's not like anyone except a computer would be able to keep track of what we had and hadn't hunted yet!)

Yeah, think i'm just going to do Magikarp, and see if i get it in a few eggs, just on the off chance that the prize is an item instead of a novelty that'll be readily available in safari zone this time next month. I'm not overly worried by doing another, it just seems a waste... i just checked my dex, i have 35 shiny eggs collected (so another 262 non-novelty/vrare eggs to collect). Excluding the fact that the ones i want are more likely to be popular, and therefore appear in a popularity list, the odds of getting all 3 as ones i've hunted as the tops votes are approx 1 in 660 given how many i've done.

I think I'll refrain from commenting on the logic behind one of the reasons for not allowing duplicates being to give the less popular ones a go, when all 3 options are decided by popular vote. :-P

Ah well, it'll always happen to someone - may as well be me. May as well double up on magikarp and go from there.

Not the case whenever March rolls around. I dictate the shiny hunts for that month. There's also nothing stopping us from deciding to not have a vote for a certain month and to just do whatever we want instead.

Yeah, the logic is that we don't allow repeats. Eventually, less popular Pokemon will simply have to get voted in.

And really, Pumpkinking? Was it that necessary to post a lot of math regarding my comment? There's a reason I said "if." I doubt we'd literally go through every evolutionary line. >_> I was also assuming that they'd eventually stop with new generations, and I could see this site being around for a while.

Posted by: Arq Sep 12 2013, 01:03 AM

Lol. But I said "I'm not going to comment on..." Therefore i didn't comment! :-P My apologies if that particular comment wasn't appreciated by either of you... I do appreciate the whole 'free site' and that sort of stuff... i just found the idea of diversifying away from the popular by having every option decided by popularity to be... well... hilarious.

Synx - I think Pumpking disproved your theory quite thoroughly. That said, in 10 years, if I were still on the site, I wouldn't want to be choosing between the most boring ones left... If the site does stay that long, I'd suggest repeats would be useful - anyone on here since the beginning would already have every shiny, and any newbies wouldn't want the dregs of the previous inhabitants' popularity contests.

Nah, he didn't disprove anything, since... there was no theory to disprove. The entire point of my statement was that we won't repeat SWSH Pokemon no matter how unpopular something gets. If some newbie doesn't like it, that's unfortunate. So... until we've used up every possible evolutionary line, no matter how long it takes, there will be no repeats.

Who knows, this might change in the future, but for now, this is how it stands.

I could be wrong, but maybe she's commenting on the breeding situation? People want to pick Magikarp, but they might have a harder time later since there aren't nearly as many 'karp eggs as the other two (at this time). happy.gif

It might be just me, but that sounded a little rude. Nonetheless, I did think it had started today.

Like Synx Itax said, though, my point still stands.

Posted by: Secondhand Stardust Sep 12 2013, 01:24 PM

I've been wanting to hunt both Bagon and Magikarp just for the heck of it. Good thing I waited. :O

Posted by: Samoo Sep 12 2013, 01:43 PM

Not exactly thrilled again with the Pokémon.. I don't have Bagon yet so I guess I'll sign up for that.
I'm really hoping we get through the popular stuff asap, I kinda want to hunt things that don't really get much action..

Posted by: Margo Sep 12 2013, 01:53 PM

I actually like these Pokémon, though it almost feels like they were mostly voted for because they were in 4th, 5th and 7th place last time (so in hindsight, that was pretty predictable, if you ask me). I don't have a shiny Bulbasaur or Magikarp yet, and as I've got more time now than I had in July, I do hope I'll be able to get at least one shiny of each happy.gif

Posted by: Jen Sep 12 2013, 01:58 PM

I don't have the magikarp or bagon lines, and I don't have bulba or ivy of the saur line. Ahh lots for me to do if I get motivated. #TeamMalachite

Starting with magikarp just because of that low maturity!

Posted by: Manah Sep 12 2013, 02:18 PM

The only one I need is Bagon (3 of them), but I really don't like hunting a 10k maturity pokemon as my first. Now I don't know if I should go for Bulbasaur first (but I already have 6 shinies for exchange events or whatever) or start with Bagon and be even more worried about not getting a shiny. blink.gif

I could be wrong, but maybe she's commenting on the breeding situation? People want to pick Magikarp, but they might have a harder time later since there aren't nearly as many 'karp eggs as the other two (at this time). happy.gif

Normally I'd agree with you, but so far almost all the magikarp eggs I've bred has been adopted and hatched. I don't know if it's her specifically, but some people are certainly starting the hunt already. And given how fast magikarp eggs can be hatched, they're probably disappearing faster than the other eggs, making for less in the shelter.

Starting off the hunt with increased shelter grabs isn't going to help much either. I was so disappointed when I went to spend points on hatch+ and saw shelter+ was already full. I love the scavenger hunts, but every single time there's ample evidence some people just do not pay attention to how they work.

Oh, I definitely know people are starting the hunt early (since they don't bother to read, I suppose). I was just presenting an alternate explanation/view. I know Magikarp is a popular Pokemon to shiny hunt in general, so it wouldn't surprise me if its egg numbers were low.

i didn't even realize the shiny hunt had started until i checked my daycare and saw 28 bulbasaur eggs in there. cat.gif

First weekend of the hunt is over, and I already have more than 450 eggs hatched. Usually I'm hitting that juuuuuust under the wire (if I didn't get a shiny before then).

At least if I don't get a shiny this month, I know I'll get max points. Heck, at this rate I'll get both the "hatch 1500 of any egg" and the "finish a shiny hunt lasting over 1000 eggs" achievements.

While my totals aren't near yours, Lodrelhai, I feel your pain. I chose to begin with Bulba and it seems to be a long haul to find its eggs on a "non-special" day so I'm trolling the Shelter and have to sit for a while before one appears. While I am breeding Bulba atm, I don't have enough honey to spend them on the 2 eggs of my own. So the hatching, for me, has been slower but the results the same. I'm praying Areodactyl didn't muff up my ratio to the point where I can't find a shiny any longer. Oh what a bummer that would be! crying.gif

Is it supposed to be possible to hunt for all three? I first chose Magikarp and got that on the first day of trying - then went for Bulbasaur and it happened again. Now going for Bagon. o_O

Yup, Raiden. That's how it works. happy.gif You can only hunt one at a time but can go back and attempt to find the ones you didn't try for originally. But to "win" the end prize you don't have to find all three which I think is super great - just in case.

Grats on the quick hunts!

Finally got my first shiny magikarp, then the second and my bagon hunt went much faster. Looking for bulbasaur now.

I wanna know who over in the Malachite camp found the shiny detector. You guys are completely smoking everyone!

Well, looks like September's officially over now, but congrats to everyone who succeeded on the shiny month! Despite having a great birthday I wasn't lucky enough to snag a shiny for the hunt, oh well!

I'm really surprised so many were lucky in getting the shinies early though, wow!

(I will laugh if I hatch a Bulbasaur NOW after the shiny hunt's officially over. At least I'll have the perfect nickname in mind.)
