I love memes, though some can be pretty stupid. My favorites are Futurama related ones like "Why not Zoidberg" "Can't tell if ________ or ________" "Shut up and take my money!" and "Sweet ________ of ________!"
I've always loved reaction memes, such as some of the ones you've stated. Reaction-style ones are pretty fun and are a good form of shorthand across the internet.
I'm not too fond of memes like Nyan-Cat and Rick-Roll, though. You see it once, it might be amusing the first time, and then it just becomes annoying every time after that. Same with other forced ones like "Arrow to the knee" and "The cake is a lie", which were never funny in the first place, IMO. Forced memes and once-and-done memes are my bane. They remind me of someone trying way too hard to be funny.
I like photoshop/artistic ones like "X all the Y", "X, X everywhere", raving, monocles/tophats, etc. because I like to see the different things people come up with. Rave/seizure was my all-time favorite, but it's years dead. XD
Memes are dumb unless they're timed properly. Protip: most internet nerds just scream them out in an attempt to be funny, without knowing what proper comedic timing actually is.
I like memes. I rememeber the good times when my and my bogff (best other gender friend forever) would hang out on fridays and browse through Pokememes.
Now, i really don't have a favorite type, but some are better than others. One of one type of meme could just be dumb, but another one of the same type might make me laugh like crazy. It seriously just depends on the meme.
I love memes, but once they got commercialized (t-shirts with Me Gusta on them, Nyan Cat shirts and stickers, etc), they just no longer felt exclusive to the interwebs. Then again, I'd imagine that mostly 'net nerds would get that merchandise anyway. Or maybe girls who like cats.
I... actually kinda want a Me Gusta shirt. :|
The only memes I don't mind are the redundant X Y is X and the Not sure if_____ or _____.
I can't stand those gaming ones (The cake is a lie, took an arrow to the knee). People throw them around trying to be cool and funny when they are not. Its possible to make them work...just...people don't know how to :/
Like any other form of comedy, if it's overplayed, and at completely inappropriate times, the comedic value doesn't exist.
Hexxy, add more to your post please!
Reaction images, yes. Everything else, not so much. The cake is a lie bit annoys me the most, and arrow in the knee jokes comes second.
Memes are cool.
I just hate it when people overuse them or worse, misuse them.
Especially those who came out of 9GAG. I don't like the site, but nothing's wrong with it. It's just that some people keep using memes over and over on Facebook because of that site.
Hate them. Hate them. Hate them. My current relationship is in danger of ending because of them. They're annoying. I hardly ever get them, and they're overused.
I'm not too bothered with them.
I use them myself. However I've come across people who use them constantly. Whenever I'm near them, actually. Always "Arrow to the knee" or some other thing I can't remember. I mean. I do it myself, like I just said. But within reason.
Not constantly, but every now and then I don't see why. When the time is right for a meme I feel it should be used. If the time isn't right the like Reyo said, all comedic value is gone.
I guess I like them, but most of them get really old after a while. At nearly EVERY game video I saw in the comments an "Arrow to the knee" joke. And that isn't even the original meme where is was "Arrow IN the knee.." I'm glad that one is nearly gone. Most of the time people don't understand that it gets old, or just use them to troll people..
Edit:
I have to admit I sometimes use memes like "20% cooler" though.
I don't really care for memes. I never really use them. I think it's stupid when people constantly keep using them. It'll get bland after awhile.
I honestly hate them. It feels like every kid at my brother's school uses them, and whenever I go to pick him up I see a bunch of morons, say, taking someone's hat and saying 'u mad? u mad?' or something like that. Plus my boyfriend talks about memes non-stop and it really pisses me off. I might just break up with him because of it.
memes are annoying and pretty much not at all funny. people need to write their own jokes.
don't get me started on rage comics. they're the most unimaginative & annoying thing on the internet.
every time a 14-year old boy that thinks he's clever says "u mad bro?", i literally want to tear their fucking face off. it's beyond annoying. also they tend to be sexist/racist/homophobic/etc as hell.
A couple are a little annoying, but the rest I love.
I love memes, mainly because I'm good at the timing. If my friends are talking about Dragon Ball Z, I know I can slip in an "OVER 9000!" in there and get some laughs. I've even made arrow to the knee jokes and gotten laughs. I've got a lot of favorite memes.
Condescending Wonka;; It's what we're all thinking and so true.
Most Interesting Man;; They're hilarious, and the commercials the meme is based on is amazingly funny.
Philosiraptor;; Makes you really think. *mind blown*
The one I don't like is "U mad bro?" because I play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox. And the other people that play it are all either little kids (12 or younger) who think they're cool and older (13+) people trying way to hard be cool. So they always say "U mad bro?" when they piss people off.
I think meme's are harmless, but it's a shame when they're not funny or flat out annoying. OVER 9000 and Arrow to the Knee was never funny, for example.
The Willy Wonka memes make me laugh a ton due to the sarcasm of it.
But some memes do get on my nerves, I don't understand the Skyrim meme.
Probably because I never played that game.
It all depends on comedic timing, inherent hilarity of the meme, and where it is applied. F*** up one of these, and...
Yeah, generally when a meme first comes out, it is funny. But if it keeps getting overused, then it just goes downhill. Seriously annoying, some of them, but pure gold, others.
Sorry all <3 memes.
I do not use them to be 'funny' or 'cool'...I'm neither and I know it. I do it because heck if I'm living my life that worried about pleasing others, or what others will think about me. And they amuse me. Because I have to be easily amused with all the bull in the town I live in. Or I WILL SNAP, and likely will kill someone. (Not joking)
Actually, except for a very few people, I don't care what people think about me at all. :P
I think there awesome.
Although they have changed a lot over the years, quite a lot of them have made me laugh.
I think they're fun. I like how there's so many of them so that you can find one that fits your mood perfectly.
internet memes are funny until they become internet memes
The problem with memes is now people overuse and misuse them constantly out of context without understanding anything about them. They're much too popular to really be inside jokes anymore. If you don't understand some meme, then that's good, that means it's an inside joke still and not yet run into the ground by 9gag or Reddit.
I think that memes are a great way to express yourself if they are done in moderation. It is when they become overused that they become annoying.
Love them.
Shamefully, I love memes, even the ones that are bit old now and are overused.
The Condescending Wonka meme never fails to make me giggle wherever I see it; be it on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.
My current favourite meme is probably Grumpy Cat. Have you seen that they now sell Grumpachinos?!
Don't even get me started on the OVER 9000 meme... xD
Currently, me and one of my co-workers try to slip in "that's what she said" whenever we can. I think he's beating me at the moment, but hey, who's counting? xD I should know better, being his supervisor and all, but if someone says something that can be made into an innuendo, even slightly, it is guaranteed that one of us will say "that's what she said" xD
So yeah, memes will never get old for me xD
Personally? I find memes the most annoying thing on Earth.
Every single one.
Show me Nyan Cat? Gag. Troll faces? Vomit. Doges? Hack, splutter, cough.
But seriously, what is with this elitist attitude that if you don't enjoy something, no one can?
I like to let people have their fun. I don't care if you like memes. I really, really do not.
(just please keep it away from me.)
Of course, exceptions exist. If I see somebody wearing a fedora or shirt that says "get back in the kitchen", I'll be gone in a blink.
I also love memes, as you can tell. Wow.
I personally hate them. Many of my closest friends spend their days on meme generators just laughing at the comics all day. I can only sit there and watch in horror as I'm forced to fake a laugh as they show me the same meme for the hundredth time that day. After a while I usually just get tired of pleasing them and say something cold about how I dont' care :P I don't care if other people like them, but they can't expect me to feel the same way.
