Posted by: Jaima Jul 4 2008, 02:06 AM
Name: Jaima Kuonji (no relation to a certain martial artist)
Age: 16 going on 30 :P
Hometown: Born in Cherrygrove City in Johto, where he received his first starter. The death of his father caused him to delay his journey for six years until his twin sisters were old enough to take care of themselves. He has decided to start his journey in Furoh because of his advanced age, and not to interfere with his sisters' journeys.
Appearance: The first thing most people notice about Jaima is that he's much taller than the kids he started his journey with. He stands half a head higher than most kids his age, and therefore towers over the 10 year olds starting their journeys. He has long blond hair that he ties back in a braid, and thin wire framed glasses. He has a penchant for wearing green, with a hunter green sleeveless gi top worn loosely as a jacket and a lighter green or yellow shirt beneath. Black pants and slip on shoes finish the ensemble. Despite the martial artist theme of his clothing, he only has a passing knowledge of the arts.
Personality: Jaima is calm on the outside, but is nervous in strange situations. He is self conscious both about his height and his advanced age in comparison to other trainers, so he tends to stay quiet unless he needs to. He will, however, move aggressively to help, or even protect, someone who he feels is being unfairly treated. He once saved a girl from being mugged in his hometown, but after the battle he snuck away. The girl never found out who saved her, but someone who knows him might recognize her description
Biography: Jaima Kuonji was born to Midori and Kei Kuonji in a relatively small city in Johto. He grew up a boisterous, loud, and dynamic child, extroverted, but in a kind way. He stood up for others and made friends quickly. Like many boys (and girls), he discovered pokémon at a young age, and spent the time between then and his 10th birthday chomping at the bit to start his trainer's journey.
It was on the way to New Bark town that tragedy struck. His father was killed as the boy traveled, and he was given the news right after he received a cyndaquil as a starter. At the funeral, something changed. He cancelled his trip and tried to give the pokémon back, but Professor Elm wouldn't hear of it. "You'll need him one day."
Jaima stayed home and helped care for his 4 year old twin sisters, Mariko and Natsume. When he was old enough, he worked for Professor Elm, and that led to the capture of his second pokémon, a wounded spinx that had been abandoned by it's owner after losing a fight. Abandoning a pokémon involves breaking the ball that it was caught/given in. While this has little effect on a healthy pokémon, it can be devastating to an injured one. Pokémon in this state usually die within hours. Jaima was carrying a delivery of different acorn crafted pokéballs from a man named Kurt, which Elm had wished to study. A friendship ball fell out of the bundle he was carrying onto the spinx, catching it. When Jaima freed it, it instantly took a liking to him, and the boy didn't have the heart to abandon him.
A family vacation on the Queen Anne led to his third pokémon, a gift from an older gentleman who had been harassed until Jaima stepped in. Jaima did not know the gentleman was Professor Oak, and well able to take care of himself. the Professor was impressed that a young man would even try to resolve the situation peacefully. Jaima had looked tough, but had to lie down when he got back to his cabin, he was so scared. The professor gifted Jaima with a ball, which contained a bulbasaur.
Upon hearing this, Elm, Midori, and even Mariko and Natsume urged Jaima to start his journey. The twins planned to start theirs soon, and their mother, though she would miss them all, wanted them to experience a journey like hers.
The trip to Furoh led to his last procurement, mottled blue and black egg that was given to him without a word by an old woman. The baby riolu hatched on the way to the Journey start point, and has been named Shadow.
Starting Pokemon: Ember, a female cyndaquil with a timid nature; Fang, a male spinx with a sassy nature; Grondir, a male bulbasaur with a docile nature, and Shadow, a newly hatched male riolu with a brave nature. Also worth mentioning is Mr. Postman, the family swellow, who delivers mail between the twins, Midori, and Jaima. He may have been hatched from a mating between a xatu and a taillow, as he seems to have a psychic bond with the Kuonjis, enabling him to find them no matter where they are. He also seems able to teleport (or, at least, he delivers mail very quickly). However, he does NOT fight, he is only mentioned to show that Jaima has pokémon from each of the 4 major regions.
Items: Jaima has a standard array of potions, antidotes, and burn heals in a little kit. The kit only holds 3 of each at a time, and he uses them generously (in other words, if someone is around with a poisoned/burned/injured pokémon, he'll offer to heal it). He has a miniature master ball hanging from his neck. It was a working model, but it has been broken for years. Jaima wears it because it belonged to his father.
Pokemon Summary:
Starters
Ember (click to showhide)
Ability: Blaze
Mother: Cyndaquil Father: Zangoose
*Ember was the pokémon that Jaima would have journeyed with had he not been delayed by his father's death. As such, she was treated as a pet more than a battler, and though she did manage to have a battle or two, it was always in emergencies, and usually cut short because the opponent was a bully and didn't expect Jaima to stand up for himself. Her timid nature was made worse by the lack of battles. This also began Jaima's tradition of leaving his pokémon out of their pokéballs.
Ember's first real battle happened in Port Barley, and she didn't properly fight until Fang, who she had grown to think of as her cub, was hurt. When she fought, it was out of rage, and though she had a minor affinity for it, she didn't enjoy it when she snapped out of it. Her trainer very nearly sent her home, out of his own wish to not force her to battle.
That all changed when she was taken. In a battle with a pokémon thief, her ball was broken and she was recaptured. The shock of being recaptured was short lived, but helped temper her timidity. When she was found by another trainer in another city, she herself attacked the new ball, prompting the young girl (Tuesday Berdison) to break it for her, freeing her from the thief. As Tuesday traveled to return Ember to her trainer (unknowingly, Tuesday and Jaima had been corresponding), Ember was faced with a situation: Flee and possibly allow the girl who rescued her to come to harm, or fight and protect her. She choose to fight. This new experience caused her to adamantly refuse to be sent home.
During the Battle of Mount Carello, Ember evolved to better deal with her trainer's opponents, a meganium who had been put under the influence of a Shadow Machine. Her evolution has brought about a new appreciation for battling, as well as increased agility.
Fang (click to showhide)
Ability: Intimidate
Mother: Luxray Father: Granbull
Fang had been abandoned between the towns of Cherrygrove and New Bark by an unknown trainer who had caught, and preferred, a local pikachu. Because Fang was from another region, the trainer was certain that Fang (named Shooter by him) would be found and cared for. Fang reacted badly to his missing trainer, and, after a long, fruitless search, gave up and did not fight back when attacked by a large zigzagoon. Jaima and his sisters found him and scared the zigzagoon away, Jaima catching him with a Friend Ball to bring him to Professor Elm.
When released, Fang was extremely happy to see Jaima and acted as if his former trainer (who'd broken Fang's ball to release him) hadn't harmed him at all. He never lost that confidence, and has only grown more loyal to Jaima in the intervening years. As with Ember, he was not used to battle, and so did not grow stronger, but was a playful companion who preferred to ride on Jaima's shoulders with his front feet on Jaima's head.
When Jaima began his journey, Fang was right there, and so began to train. Nothing special was done, but it is now believed that he had a lot of potential locked in him for a long time. He has recently evolved, and has been shown to know Fire Fang and Ice Fang.
Grondir (click to showhide)
Ability: Overgrow
Mother: Venusaur (ironically named Venus) Father: Shiftry
Grondir began life as a starter pokémon in a year when fewer Kanto children started their journeys. However, his existence was not an empty one, as he began to help a young, bright girl around the lab. He became good friends with this girl, but never went so far as to become her personal pokémon.
He was brought with Professor Oak to a seminar aboard a cruise ship. He was part of Oak's presentation, but was, for the most part, kept in his ball. He registered the gifting of himself to Jaima with aplomb; he was a patient pokémon, not given to panic, and it would be nice to have an actual trainer.
He spent some time helping around the house, some with good results, others with not so good results. When Jaima decided to journey to Furoh, Grondir was pleased
His first battle did not go well; He was tricked into stepping on his own stun spores and paralyzed, worsening his effectiveness. His second battle also did not go well, as he refused to attack a sleeping zubat. Subsequent battles have been better, especially after training with Mindy Rose. He gained new understanding of his abilities and a new, previously unknown attack.
When Jaima met Tuesday, Grondir recognized her. As such, Jaima's protectiveness of her has been augmented by Grondir's. While helping the girl train her own pokémon, and after the battle of Mount Carello, he has evolved into an ivysaur, giving him greater stamina, strength, and flexibility in his vines.
Shadow (click to showhide)
Ability: Inner Focus
Mother: Lucario Father: Medicham
Shadow began life just before the boat from Johto to Port Barley, Furoh, landed. He hatched and met his new trainer. Soon after he was pitted against another, more experienced riolu trained by a young boy named Lemonade. Rosie, the riolu in question, instead of lording over her more advanced experience, chose to use the battle to train the young one. He gained so much knowledge that he was able to bring his opponent to a draw.
Shadow loves to fight, and he loves his trainer and the team his trainer uses. When Ember was stolen, Shadow fought until his leg was dislocated, and resisted when Jaima took him to the nurse to heal, wanting to go back into the battle. He evolved at the battle of Mount Carello, when, under the influence of a Shadow Machine, Mercury broke through and reminded him of the good times with his trainer. The resulting Opening of his Heart caused his evolution, which he was close to at any rate, and he is now more serious and more formidable. He has also noticed the ability to see auras.
He has a special fondness with Mercury, which has evolved from a playful friendship to the admiration of her wisdom. Since he has evolved, however, things seem strained.
CaughtMercury (click to showhide)
Ability: Trace
Mother: Gardevoir Father: Dusknoir
Mercury's life began with a noticeable difference: Her head crest was blue instead of green. Her mother and sister (a kirlia) did not care, and after the colony got used to the curiosity, they did not either. However, a ruthless human wishing to cash in on the perceived superiority of shiny pokémon, tried to catch her. Her sister got in the way of the ball and was captured instead. Her mother was killed.
She spent time alone, guided by her mother's spirit, and began to cover her crest in a moss paste to make it green like her kin. Her mother's spirit guided a trainer to her, and after feeling the good feelings from him, she decided that they would benefit from each other. She allowed herself to be captured.
Mercury's mental powers were not well honed when she was captured, and she communicated mostly through images and ideas. Slowly she learned to organize her thoughts into words. She has always been outgoing and friendly, and willing to help anyone in need, including but not limited to Mindy Rose, who was attacked by ghosts in the night, and suffered from a phobia of being out in the open at night, and Darryn Kellor on Mount Carello. Her first ever non-training battle was also her introduction to the dark type. The void that a dark type leaves in the psychic plane, rendering them undetectable by psychics, engendered a deep seated phobia in her, which causes her to freeze up in their presence. This is, currently, excepted only by Ashleigh, Tuesday Berdison's houndoom. In Lenoilia, she evolved in a fit of anger at seeing her trainer and best friend, Shadow, attacked. With her evolution has come maturity, power, and grace. Also, hormones, as evidenced by her sudden crush on a newly evolved Shadow.
Tsunami (click to showhide)
Ability: Damp
Mother: Swampert Father: Walrein
Not much is known about Tsunami. She was abandoned in the poisoned city of Lenoilia, left to waste in a canal filled with toxic sludge for three days. Jaima and his party found her when she coughed and fought to steady her long enough to get her to the pokécenter, where she was healed. Jaima kept her, angry that she was left to die, and gave her the strongest water name he could think of: Tsunami. Secretly, she knows Toxic, from being in the poison for so long, but using it brings back sensory memories that she does not like.
She evolved at the Battle of Mount Carello, growing stronger and larger, and also allowing her to be more confident.
released/tradedBudew: Level 5 budew (sent to his mother; inactive)
I know a Biscuit, her name is Bertha
She was moist with flaky crust
Butter and Jam were not a must
There was Marmalade, and sometimes gravy
And though at breakfast she was a star
Sausage wasn't ever far (continue ad nauseum)

Partner Profile
Name: Meiko Omura
Age: 16, and loving it.
Hometown: Cherrygrove City as of 6 years old.
Personality: Meiko Omura is very much a girl. Anyone who sees her can tell that. However, she doesn't believe that being a girl means being weak, demurring to others, or letting men do everything strenuous for them. She strongly believes that women can do anything men can do, and some things men can't.
When dealing with pokémon, she believes in her team, each and every one of them (even troublemakers like Rockclaw), and in turn, her confidence in them inspires them to try their hardest. To the outsider, she gives her commands harshly, but she is simply passionate in battle, and her pokémon will do anything for her. She will not give a command that she feels is unfair unless it will decisively win the battle, and even then she must have no other option. If ever put in a position of battling with other people's pokémon, she usually lets them fight on their own, giving suggestions, and refuses to let them use "double edge" type moves.
Meiko likes a good joke, and loves to tease her friends. She is also not afraid to take someone to task when she believes they're wrong, but will apologize sincerely if it turns out she is the one in the wrong.
Appearance: Meiko stands at about 5'6". Her shoulder length red hair usually is usually in a half ponytail. She likes the color red, but is comfortable in any color, and is beginning to favor green. She typically wears a short skirt with black spandex shorts going to her mid-thigh, ankle boots, and a belt hanging jauntily around her waist to hold her pokéballs. Above this is a black, mid-length sleeved shirt with a red collared vest over the top of it. However, she has plenty of spare outfits, ranging from casual wear to work wear and even a nice dress or two, plus a kimono, all packed in storage balls. She is almost always smiling. There is a line of freckles across her nose, and a few scattered on her arms.
Biography: When Meiko was six, her family moved to Cherrygrove in the Johto region. She thrived there, meeting new friends and getting along with almost everyone she met. She the young son of the Kuonji family, Jaima. Together they admired his newborn twin sisters, helped his mother around the breeding grounds, played Pokémorphin' Power Rangers, and generally spent time together. During this time, a small crush formed between her and Jaima. They planned to take their pokémon journey together, but this was interrupted by the death of Jaima's father. Jaima stayed home, but insisted that Meiko take her journey. She did, but tried to stay in touch as much as possible. However, a pokémon journey is time consuming, and eventually the two fell out of touch.
Meiko did find love once, but the boy in question turned out to be incompatible (read: he wanted a traditional Japanese girl), and it left her remembering days past. It has recently been revealed that the boy in question, Toshiro Yamamoto, tried to force Meiko into sex, an act that terrified her into leaving before her challenge at Blackthorn Gym.
Alas, she had missed Jaima by a week, because he started his journey to Furoh. She took a job as Professor Elm's assistant in Jaima's stead, but when the professor decided to take a vacation, she found herself with time on her hand. Jaima's mother, knowing a friend would be needed, and secretly hoping that a nice, strong girl that she trusted would be the one for Jaima, paid for her ticket and gave her the code to track his pokégear. Thus began her journey to Furoh.
Pokémon: Chompwater (click to showhide)
Chompwater is Meiko's first and prize pokémon and best pokémon friend. Until her travels to Furoh, she has refused to pull the feraligatr out of her party, and the rewards have been tremendous. Even in battles where she has a disadvantage, Chompwater battles with toughness, only giving up when Meiko recalls her or she is knocked unconscious.
Blazeclaw (click to showhide)
Meiko's father had found the pokemon, and traded him to her for her heracross, Ramhorn. Blazeclaw has in the past refused to evolve, because he has felt he is not worthy, being trainerless. He is headstrong and impulsive, belyinghis youth, but srprisingly strong, and very fast. He will not hesitate to take his trainer 'to task' if he feels he is being given a bad command (such as "get out of the rain"), but usually follows the order anyway.
Eggheart (click to showhide)
Meiko's mother sent her an egg on the verge of hatching, something which horrified and angered Meiko, who already has a strained relationship with her mother. Despite her growing dissatisfaction with the young Nurse Joy of Arasam, the two girls, along with Jaima, watched it hatch. It came out as cute as can be, but the first hint of it's possible uniqueness came when it responded with dissatisfaction and incredulity to it's given name (provided by Meiko's mother). The second, and more obvious hint, came when it beat the tar out of an attacking rattata, chiding it the entire time. Meiko is now on search for a name rater, due to the fact that every time she hears the name, Precious reacts as if she is being insulted. Reminded by Tuesday that a hatched egg still had to be caught, and that a caught pokémon could then be named as the trainer wished, Meiko "caught" the hapiny in a Love ball (from the Johto region) and re-dubbed her "Eggheart".
Cosette (click to showhide)
Cosette was actually found and rescued through Tuesday's efforts and her currently uncontrolled powers of Aura. The turtwig had begun life as many pokémon do, but was abducted early on by three steelix who wished to eat her. Despite her experience, being outnumbered and overwhelmed, with no type advantage, caused the turtwig mental distress. Also, she was not eaten right away, but not fed, either. She has come away from the experience with an intense fear that she will be eaten. For some reason, Meiko does not frighten her, and Jaima's ivysaur Grondir is also counted as not scary.
Desertdancer (click to showhide)
Meiko traded a teddiursa named Ringclaw to a trainer from Kanto for Desertdancer, after the two, sharing lunch, noticed that the other's pokémon seemed more compatible with the opposite trainer. Both are quite happy with the trade. Desertdancer has come to be one of Meiko's strongest battlers, surpassed only by Rockclaw because of the corphish's attitude to do whatever it would take to win. Desertdancer is more compassionate, but still battles ferociously. He had been sent home to help Meiko's mother in her garden, a task now being performed by Mrs. Omura's diglett.
Nightwish (click to showhide)
Nightwish was a spur of the moment catch by Meiko. Seemingly cruel, with evil intentions toward our redheaded heroine, she has slowly grown truly fond of the girl. Similarly, she has a strong rivalry with Jaima's kirlia, Mercury, which has begun to devolve into a friendship. This particular girl has issues...
Rockclaw (BOXED) (click to showhide)
Rockclaw was a gift from Meiko's one relationship, given to her in the early stages of same. Though he usually answers every command from Meiko with a glare, he follows them willingly and expertly. He doesn't spend a lot of time outside of his pokéball by choice: If there isn't an opponent to battle, he will u-turn right back in, or stomp (with all four walking feet) to Meiko and press the button again to recall himself. The one exception is for food; true to his species, he will gladly stay out for anything food or food related, including but not limited to crumbs, spoilage, and carcasses. Recently, Rockclaw has become passively threatening, and has been observed by readers to be communicating with someone outside of Meiko's group via computer.
Ramhorn (TRADED) (click to showhide)
While traveling through Ilex forest, Meiko was involved in a fight with a trainer who'd gotten a hold of a hitmonchan. Using her first pokémon, Chompwater, the totodile was punched into a tree, knocking a heracross from it. Meiko made a hasty catch and was able to use her new acquisition in the battle, allowing her to win. Ramhorn, as he was dubbed, is silent and still most times, unless ordered to battle, or threatened. When those conditions are met, he acts decisively and swiftly. If one could see his thought processes, he would be described as Zen, but since most humans can't, they tend to think he's stupid. He gives Meiko his undivided loyalty at all times, due to her sustaining an injury while protecting him and her other pokémon.
Bloodwing (BOXED) (click to showhide)
Bloodwing is a tall-for-his-species noctowl, who, had he been allowed to remain in the wild, would have been chosen as the king of his flock. Not that he's complaining. As king of his flock, he would have been constantly challenged by shorter, yet no less dangerous noctowl, whereas as a member of Meiko's team he only has to compete with himself, filling the "flying-type" niche in the most suitable fashion. He can be haughty, and gets into constant arguments with Jaima's Fang, which more often than not end up with Bloodwing paralyzed.
Springheel (BOXED) (click to showhide)
Springheel was found, along with Bloodwing, fighting each other when Springheel's swarm attacked Bloodwing's flock. The resulting pitched battle woke Meiko, who was camping on the edge of that particular wood. In a fit of slumberus interruptus, she threw two pokéballs out at the nearest combatants, and, because they had weakened each other, caught them both, in a rare
double-catch. Springheel is affectionate for a bug type.
