With the psudo-legendaries and their modifiers, do they get rounded up/down like how we learned in elementary, always rounded down, or lave a decimal in their level like 38.4?

Go ahead and just keep the decimal attached to it. So, if you're level 30.7, you'll still qualify as a level 30 (you won't learn a level 31 attack) but then the next level, you'll be 31.4, so you will be able get that extra attack, while maintaining all progress made.

Eh...no shineys for now. I think we're going to give them away as prizes or something, but Kilvy's in charge of that project, so we'll have to ask him.

Sorry about the delay in response, I was at a wedding.

I'm trying to make a new profile, but I'm wondering are shiny starters allowed?

Nope.

Shinies are rewarded as prizes for Fan-Fiction contests. They're super rare in the games, and we try our best to maintain that rarity here.

Just a quick question for future reference......

One of my two Eevees will eventually be evolving into an Espeon. I'm curious as to what kinds of psychic powers are allowed. In particular, I've always been a fan of teleportation.

The way I see it, the move Teleport is used to transport multiple people/Pokemon from one location to another. As Espeon doesn't learn Teleport naturally, would it be okay if she was capable of teleporting herself but unable to teleport anyone else?

If necessary, I could also limit her even more, and require a few seconds of hard concentration before her teleport so that she couldn't just do it at will during a battle.

She would use this power for Ranger operations (easy patrols) and also as an especially useful battle tactic if she has someone else to protect her.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhh I'm skeptical. I can find no grounds for an Espeon ever knowing Teleport, so perhaps it's safe to say that it's beyond Espeon's psychic capabilities.

Sorry, friend.

Actually, just to point out, Espeon's field move in Ranger: Shadows of Almia is Teleport. So in at least one game there have been teleporting Espeons. Serebii- Espeon's Spinoff Pokedex Page

If not teleporting, then what about using telekinesis to compress air and form some kind of barrier to stop/slow/weaken incoming attacks? Or would that be too similar to some kind of actual move that Espeon can't normally learn (or learns through a TM), such as Barrier or even Protect?

And another psychic question, what about invisibility- specifically, bending light around your body so that you can't be seen through normal means, similar to what Latias/Latios do.

I'm just curious as to how far I can use an Espeon's psychic powers before they become too powerful for someone of her level, so I might have even more questions later. Which also leads me to ask if some of these abilities might have level requirements just like regular moves.

And one final question...... where can I find out what levels are needed for TMs? Specifically, Protect and Psychic for Espeon and Umbreon respectively.

Pretty much across the board, we try not to let people get too carried away with Psychic Powers. I haven't played the Ranger games, so I'm not sure exactly what the mechanics are, but in general, anything short of telepathy, to me, is pretty overpowered.

I'll, of course, let another mod weigh in.

As for a Psychic power that compresses air and slows down/stops/weakens attack? Sounds light Light Screen or Reflect to me.

Invisibility? I'm really keen on allowing that. Think of it this way: If it takes mental energy to even lift something into the air, and one could bend the very molecules in the air or even waves of light, what's to stop it from controlling pretty much everything around it? I mean, at that point, just stop the opponent's heart and instantly kill them, right?

Usually, for psychic Pokemon, we tend to leave it at mostly telepathy, and the occasional non-battle telekinesis, otherwise it gets way too overpowered for a roleplay.

As for TMs for Psychic and Protect?

There's a Move Request thread here. The limitations are, as you see there.

Protect would be available immediately for both of them.

Psychic would be usable, at the earliest, for Espeon at Level 32. (Ralts is the non-legendary that learns it earliest.) Espeon will learn the move naturally at 37.

Psychic would be usable, at the earliest, for Umbreon at Level 42 (Gorebyss is the non-legendary non-psychic that learns it the earlist.)

Also, bear in mind that for happiness evolutions, we typically like to see that two roleplays have been completed first with said Pokemon (barring the one in which they were captured).

Sorry if this seems very 'over-regulate-y'. It's my job, sadly, to make sure that there's some level of fairness and balance in the roleplay world.

But, as always, you're welcome to refute my arguments. I can be persuaded if you make a good enough case happy.gif

In the Ranger games, you don't use PokeBalls to obtain Pokemon. Instead, you "capture" them by using a Styler, which is a little top sort of thing that spins around the Pokemon and captures them. Then, you can use their abilities to assist capture other Pokemon. Each Pokemon has a unique type, if you will, that determines the kind of assist they provide. These abilities may be used to assist in capturing a Pokemon, or in clearing obstacles in the field. The Pokemon's abilities also have a number, for use in the field and not in battle. They range from 1 - 4, I believe, and they are linked with the Pokemon's type of assist. For example, if there is a barricade that needs a Pokemon with Crush 3 to break it, you must have that specific Pokemon in your Party. Espeon has the assist of Psychic, and when attempting to capture it, it will teleport.

I got a couple of questions regarding Gen 6:

1. Are Gen 6 Pokemon allowed already? I didn't see any big announcements on this but I see a few people are already submitting requests for them.

2. The egg move system got revamped in Gen 6 as well, with females being able to pass down egg moves now. This means that it's now possible to get egg move combinations that were previously impossible. Does this change also transition to PANE or is it something that the mods are already aware of and is currently in discussion?

Okay, thanks. I'd read through the Move Request Thread a few times but somehow managed to miss the sentence explaining what levels you could learn TMs at every time until now. As for evolving my Eevees, I was planning at evolving them at around level 15. They're level 5 now, so if they get five levels per RP that's still the two RP's you recommended.

As far as the barriers go, I'll just drop arguing that and go for some barrier TM's eventually. Reflect, Light Screen, and Protect really cover just about any barrier I'd want to build anyway. If only there was a speed-reducing psychic support move......

Never planned on actually using invisibility, just wanted to see what everyone thought about it. It is definitely overpowered and anyone strong enough to do it would probably be able to crush a building or do something else similarly destructive.

I was planning on Espeon having a form of telepathy. She wouldn't be able to speak her thoughts, but sending mental images of things to whomever she wants to talk to ought to work.
__________________________________________________

But as far as a real display of psychic powers, all I'd really want is some limited form of teleportation. As Mr. L mentioned, Espeon is certainly capable of teleporting at least itself over a short distance. The in-game assist move allows you to teleport out of caves, just like the overworld use of Teleport in the main games. The other Pokemon in the game who can use the Teleport move are Kirlia, Mr. Mine, Alakazam, Chingling, and Jynx.

The Pokemon in the main games who use Teleport are the Abra evo line, Natu/Xatu, the Ralts evo line, Claydol, and Deoxys, along with Elgym through breeding. Interestingly enough, all of them except Clyadol and Deoxys have the ability Sychronize- the same ability Espeon has. And a quick look at Synchronize on Serebii shows that the previously named Pokemon are almost the only ones who have that ability (plus Mew, Umbreon, and Munna/Musharna), so Synchronize seems to be the ability of choice for teleporters.

I think that a psychic's Special Attack stat gives a pretty good rough estimate of how strong their powers can be. Abra is probably the best known teleporter, and it's SATK stat is 105, and you see them teleporting away from you all the time when you find them in the main series games. Espeon's stat is 130, the third highest of all of the non-legend non-mega psychics, and it's even Latios's equal. Espeon is also almost the exact same size as Abra and smaller than a fair number of the other teleporters, which is important because the size and weight of the teleporter probably makes a difference when using the move.

Plus, the Espeon in the newest Mystery Dungeon game has the ability to transport Pokemon long distances, although she requires some special cards to do so. I believe she can make these cards herself if given enough time, and although she usually uses the move along with Umbreon they can also use it without each other's help.

Also, Abra and Claydol learn Teleport at level 1, Natu learns it at level 9, Ralts at level 12, and Deoxys at level 17, so it should be well within the usable range for a level 15 Espeon.

2. That I haven't heard. We'll have to talk about it.

Considering telekinesis is now an actual move (TM move), I think we can be flexible on its use.

It's not so much about levels as it is about story telling. We actually want to see the eevees be happy around their trainer. Presumably, it will take at least two RPs to establish that relationship. Obviously, if some requested a happiness evolution but their character treated the pokemon like crap, we probably wouldn't approve it. Same goes for freshly caught pokemon.

I was planning on Espeon having a form of telepathy. She wouldn't be able to speak her thoughts, but sending mental images of things to whomever she wants to talk to ought to work.

There is a precedent for psychic pokemon to telepathically hold conversations with their trainer and others, so we're not totally against that. Obviously, the espeon will be new at such power, so it could start with images and develop further as the espeon bonds with the trainer over the course of several RPs.

Regarding teleportation: For moves, we first make sure the pokemon could ever learn it. For example, since teleport was a TM in Gen1, pokemon like butterfree, arcanine, and magnemite could learn it. Unfortunately, espeon missed the boat on that one :P. Judging from the flavor text, espeon specialized more in precognition.

I guess what I really want to know is why this espeon needs teleport. To escape danger? To protect others? The barrier moves and the telekinesis TM could do those things already. How will teleport be used in the RP?

My character, Scott, has had the Eevees for a few months prior to the first RP he is participating in, and as their original parents were killed he's served as a bit of a second father to them. They already share quite a bond as a result.

My main reason for wanting Espeon to teleport is for the super-fast movement. It would allow her to fulfill any kind of Ranger scouting duties very quickly, and in battle it could also give her a tactical advantage if she were to teleport in an unexpected way to either dodge an attack or to put herself at an optimal range for her own attacks. Once she is older and has a better grasp of the concept of teleporting, it could also be used for search-and-rescue missions in areas far from towns/cities to quickly transport anyone who is injured back to a hospital (or at least closer to one) without waiting for an ambulance or a helicopter. In addition, it allows her to serve as a quick messenger, should the characters in an RP split up to do different tasks for whatever reason, or if Scott needs to contact Ranger Command from an area with no cell phone reception.

She could also use it to enter buildings, if for some reason we need to get inside a locked building during a roleplay. Not that I'm planning on robbing a bank or anything like that.

For the most part, her ability to move freely in three dimensions through teleporting would be more of a utility ability than a battle ability.

Great. Keep it up for this RP and the next and you're set wink.gif.

Espeon has decent speed, so it's plausible to do this. As a matter of flavor, I could see teleport used this way.

This one I'm not sure about. Espeon really can't learn teleport in the main games, so I would put her RP capabilities as less than the abras and ralts. I'm not even sure they could perform cross country teleporting (can another mod confirm this?). It sounds like what you really want is Fly. For that, I suggest Scott catch a flying pokemon (or make friends with someone who has a flying pokemon).

QUOTE

Telepathy would be even faster and something that's already allowed in RP.

I would allow this if it were through a window. She needs to see where she is teleporting or else she could end up in a brick wall.

Conclusion: I assume Scott will have more pokemon in the future. Espeon doesn't have to be the super utility tool. If she can't do it, there's probably another pokemon who can. Even if Scott doesn't have anyone in his team that's suited for a specific task, there might be another trainer he can team up with with the appropriate pokemon. That's one of the things that makes RP's fun: teaming up with other people to reach a goal.

It would allow her to fulfill any kind of Ranger scouting duties very quickly, and in battle it could also give her a tactical advantage if she were to teleport in an unexpected way to either dodge an attack or to put herself at an optimal range for her own attacks.

Espeon has decent speed, so it's plausible to do this. As a matter of flavor, I could see teleport used this way.

QUOTE
Once she is older and has a better grasp of the concept of teleporting, it could also be used for search-and-rescue missions in areas far from towns/cities to quickly transport anyone who is injured back to a hospital (or at least closer to one) without waiting for an ambulance or a helicopter.

QUOTE
In addition, it allows her to serve as a quick messenger, should the characters in an RP split up to do different tasks for whatever reason, or if Scott needs to contact Ranger Command from an area with no cell phone reception.

Telepathy would be even faster and something that's already allowed in RP.

QUOTE
She could also use it to enter buildings, if for some reason we need to get inside a locked building during a roleplay. Not that I'm planning on robbing a bank or anything like that.

Oops, I'd forgotten about telepathy already. That would be faster. And yes, Espeon would need to have seen the destination location for a teleport at least once (and preferably recently) to make sure she wasn't teleporting into an object.

But okay. I suppose for most of these things there are possible alternatives. Could I just use her teleporting for very short-distance battleing then? I'd be sure not to overuse it or anything, I'm sure a few short jumps would tire an Espeon out.

Edit- Faint Attack allows for a quick flash-step that almost instantly moves the user into a blind spot of their opponent, right? Espeon's teleport would prettymuch be a psychic version of that, with a little more freedom of choice as to where the user ends up.

Since no other mods had objections, I will approve short range self teleportation.

Actually, it's now Feint Attack:

"The user approaches the target disarmingly, then throws a sucker punch. This attack never misses."

No teleportation involved. The majority of Espeon's better attacks don't require her to be particularly close anyways.

Excuse the double post, but I have another question......

How does Hidden Power work? I mean, I know that you get to choose which type you want it to be (other than Fairy), and since XY has come out it has a set power of 60 making it a tier 2 TM. But what is the minimum level needed to learn it by TM?

Going off of Serebii, it is technically a Normal move before it is taught, when it changes its type...... but none of the Pokemon that learn it are Normal-types. The earliest anyone learns it by level-up is level 1, so can Hidden Power be taught to anyone?

Yep! You make a request like any other move. In this case, specify the type you want. I'm pretty sure that any Pokemon can learn it, save Ditto, Magikarp, and the like. All of Scott's Pokemon currently qualify, sans restriction.
