EV Training in XD is pretty third generation from the looks of it. Not only that, but much of this shit does apply to RSE as well as DP if you haven't noticed; pretty much everything's carried over from RSE to DP aside from a few differences (even then, the differences are between RS and Emerald itself!).

EV training hotspots for wild Pokemon, EV training hotspots for trainers...probably won't find any Bidoof on Route 201 in Emerald
This thread was meant for 4th generation. Maybe someone else can make an EV thread for 3rd, but as the maker of this thread, I'd like it to stay in 4th gen discussion. -------------------- |

But the basics between the two are EXACTLY the same, aside from EV training hotspots and the extra Pokemon. Even if the intent was just for one board, the information shown in this topic apply the basics of two boards. In fact, why not just add EV hotspots for third generation so it applies to both? In fact, I have a list somewhere...
Marill in Route 115 Water - +2 HP Whismur in Rusturf Cave - +1 HP Shuppet (Sapphire) in Mt Pyre - +1 Attack Solrock (Ruby) in Meteor falls - +2 Attack Poochyena (Emerald) in Route 101 - +1 Attack Silcoon/Cascoon in Petalburg Forest - +2 Defense Graveler, Torkoal in Magma Hideout (Emerald) - +2 Defense Clamperl undersea (RS) - +1 Defense Zigzagoon on Route 101 (RS) - +1 Speed The route directly east of Mauville has Linoone/Manectric/Electrike/Zigzagoon in RS - +2 Speed for Manectric/Linoone, +1 Speed for Electrike/Zigzagoon Smeargle in Artisan Cave (Emerald) - +1 Speed Zubats in almost every cave imaginable - +1 Speed Spinda at Route 113 - +1 SAtk Roselia and Oddish west of Mauville - +1 SAtk each Tentacool/cruel in Abandoned ship - +1 SDef for cool, +2 SDef for cruel -------------------- |

I'd add the route 212 to the HP training hotspot section. Wooper and Quagsire, found on the lake, give 1 and 2 EVs respectively. They're the only thing there. Quite a decent level for training too.

This is helpful, but still a little confusing overall. Perhaps if I read it a couple more times I'll eventually get it XD
I think all the numbers throw me off a little. It'd be great if we could follow somebody's EV training step by step 'for dummies' kinda thing. |

stare at it long enough, it'll dawn on ya.
once you get the hang of it, EV training gets easier. and actually Black Ice, instead of spending all that time figuring out iv's in yor head, you could use an IV calculator. -------------------- |

Personally, the EV/IV configurator thing in NetBattle taught me more about EVs and IVs than any article has. It taught me their purpose, and how to EV train is actually quite simple once you learn the purpose of EVs.
IV Breeding is still somewhat complicated, but you'll catch onto it after a little bit. -------------------- |

Some good hotspots in D/P:
Attack: Valor Lakefront Use the Super Rod to fish in the lake. You'll find either Gyarados or Seaking, both giving 2 EVs Defense: Route 214 The cave on Route 214 is filled with Geodudes and Hippopotas Speed: West of Eterna City Head west out of town and the top most fisherman is sporting 6 Magikarp. Won't take more than 6 battles with him to max out EVs in Speed. Special Attack: Route 214 Last trainer you see before Valor Lakefront is a Collector who has 3 Roselias Special Defense: Route 223 Surf on that route and you'll find Tentacruels (2 EV) and Mantykes (1 EV) the only other pokemon you'll find is Pelipper, but those give EVs in Defense. for HP, I don't really know. I haven't EV trained in that stat, but just take out a bunch of Bidoof and you'll be set. -------------------- My Badges (click to show ) Team Eon Pokemon HeartGold Friend Code: 5414 2429 2824 My Site Gecko443's YouTube |

As far as I can tell EV training increases stats by 1 for every 4 EVs you get by battling certain pokemon correct? and it is spread out so if I were to kill 44 Zubat I wouldn't get 11 Speed stat increase at that moment correct? and there are a total of 252 or 255 evs in each if that's what I'm reading correctly? so is it important to jot down the EV's you get? (cause I havn't >__>) Or just to get some EV's in the stats right now and wait along the road and see what else you can do cause lately I just don't know what to do with this "new" information. (I say new because I never thought about EV training nor heard about it till recently) NVM I read it again and it just leaped in my face I got it now so you can only get 510 EV's MAX so you have the choice of only doing 255 (or 252) EV's on 2 stats or evenly spread it out right? I think I got it. right? BTW another question If you use the berry's to decrease he EV's and Use the Vitamins to increase it (from what I read you can only use it 10 times so only 100 EV's is applied to each stat I presume) then can you go EV train the remaining 152? This was actually really helpful. I have a Dustox that needs some training in Sp Atk and I was wondering if EV training could help. I'm playing both Emerald and Diamond from scratch again and I've got the Dustox in both...
Also, I was wondering if I could print the first few notes to have on the go...? -------------------- |

Im EV training a garchomp, I got the effort ribbon for him so that means I maxed out on his EVs, do I still need to fight machokes and golbats or can I just drag him through the eleit four a few times to level him up now?

Black Ice, the first post makes no sense to me at all...But I must say, good work figuring all that out.
I get the equasion, a little. So if im doing speed for a level 100 pokemon ((Stat - Level - 10) x 100 / Level) - 2 x Base Stat - Math.Floor(EV / 4) ((__ - 100 - 10) x 100 / 100) - (twice the base stat or minus 2 times the base stat?) -Math.Floor (<-- ??) (EV(isn't that what I'm trying to figure out??) / 4) Ahh nevermind this is soo confusing. EDIT: wait, I think I get it. So if I have a Tauros with 152 attk, it would have... 2 EVs? No. It would have 8. Ahh I have no clue I had it for a second If anybody could break it down a little, that would be helpful. I know each pokemon needs 4 EVs to gain 1 stat level. So 4 zubats gives 1 speed level when the pokemon levels. But how do I know how many EVs my pokemon has? the equasion is way to confusing for me... That's because you're looking at IVs, not EVs.
QUOTE EVs / EPs (Effort Values / Effort Points) - A hidden value that helps determine a Pokemon's final stats. 4 EVs make up 1 stat point; a total of 255 EVs can be invested into a single stat; 510 EVs is the max amount of total EVs for a single Pokemon. Since 4 doesn't divide into 255 so easily, it's better to just give a Pokemon 252 EVs instead of the full 255 and stick the last 6 EVs into another stat. 1 point is better than none, right? Not that it'll make much of a difference, though. Since 4 EVs equal 1 stat point, and you can invest a total of 255 EVs into one stat, that'll make 63 points. This is proven by the fact that 255 / 4 = 63.75, which is rounded down to 63. This is basically all you need to know. -------------------- |

So I just find out the base [I'll use speed as an example] stat for a pokemon, subtract that by its current [speed] stat, multiply that by 4, and thats the EV for that [speed] stat?
((If the base speed is 100, and the current speed is 103, take 103 subtract 100 and you get 3. Multiply that by 4 and you get 12... So the speed IV for that pokemon would be about 12?)) I have a question, say I was battling a machoke with my garchomp equipped with a Power Bracer, and my shinx has an exp share. does shinx gets 6 attack EV or just the 2?

I'm not sure where you're getting 6 from. Machoke gives 2 attack EVs, so double that and you have 4. Right?
As for the question, I'm not sure but I think you would get only 2. -------------------- |
