I am worried about this situation
I have some family there and I wouldn't like for anything to happen to them and regarding the situation here just yesterday one of my friends told me she had to "sneak out" of the house because her mother didn't wanted to let her go to school and it's not like we can stay away from public places and people -------------------- |

Well, I live in Mexico, so I can really tell you how's everything around here.
I live in Monterrey, Mexico (3rd biggest city, located at Northeast), so people are freak out because of flu. Many people are using those hospital "masks" (I can't remember how are they called in English, sorry) so they can avoid being sick, TV is airing do's and don'ts if you're feeling ill, and general advice is not going to crowded places, avoid people that are sick, etc. Panic shopping occurred, and people bought food and water for a week, antibacterial gels, medicines, etc. just in case. We haven't had school (I'm studying Psychology) for almost two weeks, cinemas and some public buildings are closed and streets were empty for the first days. Today, many people came out, maybe tired of being locked on their places. Many people became paranoid, specially when a woman that lived here died because of Swine Flu (and later it was confirmed that she didn't died from flu!) and everyone started to feel ill, sick, with flu, headaches, etc. Just to clarify: Here they're many good hospitals, but sadly, public ones are not that good, because of stupid burocracy (sp?). Many of the people that died was because they didn't took care, maybe because they though it was a common flu, didn't got treated soon, I'm not sure. Personally, I think this is just a smoke curtain to cover some stuff government is doing, so people can worry about influenza (sp?) more than some new laws that are being aproved, like "legal drugs", "phones and internet are intercepted by the army", and stuff that people would not approve. Many other rumors have ran, but maybe those wouldn't be aproppiated to post here. I didn't lock myself on my apartment, or used a "mask" or stuff like that. I beleive it would be like another cold with influenza risk, just like every winter, and nothing happened to me. Plus, I got to rest from school (I'll graduate soon, so school stress was killing me. And nope, I'm not lazy. I hate to procastinate or to do nothing useful) -------------------- |

The grammar in this thread makes me want to bash my head on a wall many times.
Drink some O.J., get some sleep, and carry a little bottle of hand sanitizer around with you and get over it. -------------------- clickforclick claim!! ~ shiny&non-shiny Sneasel count: 67 DAYCARE ~ EGG COUNT: 150 x The two Pokémon love playing with each other. trainer sprite by MinaKitsune! deviantART ~ my arts. earn money sitting on your butt. 8D |

I think it's been blown out of portion. The swine flu isn't even as deadly as the regular flu. When the news gets a hold of something they Looooove to make a big deal out of it.

What's Ironic is....
90 people get it and they give them face masks... Millions have HIV/AIDS, but no codoms are given. -------------------- |

Well, on Friday all our teachers where sorting out our predicted grades to send of to the exam boards incase our college has to close becuase of a swin flu outbreak and the exams get cancelled. Unfortuantly, my predicted grades aren't that great, particulrly in Physics where the teacher hates me. So thats another reason, (on top of all the obvious ones) why I really don't want a swine flu outbreak. However, it's obviously only a precusionary, (didin't spell that right) measure, so I don't think you can critise them for over reacting. Better to be safe than sorry

I think that the media is blowing everything out of proportions JUST like they did with bird flu and Hong Kong flu etc... The swine flu isn't more deadly than the regular flu and most of the people that have died are in Mexico. They probably don't have adequate health care or they wait until the last minute to get treated but it doesn't work because they are too sick. Besides the media left out that thousands of people die from the regular flu every year. I think that the media is freaking out over swine flu just like bird flu. We were all supposed to die from bird flu, but most of us are still here.

Just thought I'd mention that 10% of my school went to Mexico over Spring Break. None of them got Swine Flu.
A local newspaper did this freaktastic huge article regarding it because we're like that and now people think we're infected. XD Ah, the joys of mass media. -------------------- [align=center]I am the earth-mother, and you are all flops.
