I got it from a pre-owned game of Pearl, the person had this stuffed in one of the PC boxes.

It is without a doubt, hacked. You can tell by the Pokeball it was caught in. I use the Action Replay and I know that any pokemon that is CAUGHT and not RECIEVED yet has a Cerish Ball, is hacked. So yes, it is indeed, hacked.

Caught with a Cherish Ball = automatic yes to being hacked in some way or form. At the very least, they hacked their inventory to have Cherish Balls, and I wouldn't be surprised if they did more than just that.

If it weren't for the Cherish Ball, I'd say the person had extremely good luck. But then again, they could have gotten an Event Poke'mon (because those are almost always in Cherish Balls) and released it and got a lucky catch.

What I mean is, when you release a pokemon, you keep the pokeball it was in. I have a friend that accidentally used his Masterball to catch a Lv. 13 regular Meditite. He released it and used the Masterball to catch the game's legendary.

Yeah, it is hacked.

One word: Hacked. As said above, the ball, the catching, and the event thing all come together to say that it was just someone having fun with an Action Replay, and that unless something INCREDIBLY RARE happened, there is no way it's real. Sorry.

HACKED. Besides teh cherish ball, a shaymin cannot be shiny. the games code prevents it from being shiny. same as arceus, mew, celebi, jirachi, victini...
