QUOTE(Invitation) Dear Guest,
You are cordially invited to the 10th Annual Diancie Ball in uptown Petropolis. The Diancie Ball is a fundraiser held by the Furoh Conservation Society in order to protect certain sections of Furoh’s Underground from mining and exploitation. These sections are said to be home of unique creatures, including the mythical pokemon Diancie.
Your invitation has been paid in full by a wealthy benefactor. All that is required of you is to bring this invitation to the ball. This year’s theme is “Waltz of the Gijinka”. As such, your attire should incorporate a design depicting a pokemon of your choosing. In other words, this is a costume ball! Dinner is catered and included with your invitation. Those willing to donate more money to the conservation effort can participate in one of our many raffles. Several prizes will be given away at the ball, including a 10 day trip to Mossdeep City in Hoenn.
We hope to see you there!
Furoh Conservation Society In this contest, your character is invited to a costume ball. The focus of your entry should be what he or she will wear. What pokemon will be the focus of the design? Will it be as subtle as matching colors? Extravagant? Will guests mistake your character for that pokemon? The choice is up to you. The focus of this entry is costume description. Actually going to the ball is not required and may be used for a separate contest. Submit your entry in this thread by November 9. Sorry for the short period, but I need time to judge and one of the prizes may expire. Speaking of which… PRIZES: 1st prize: Your choice of either: *10 levels *A Diancie Serial Code for Pokemon X and Y *A download code for the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version 2nd prize: Your choice of whatever 1st prize winner doesn’t choose. 3rd prize: Whatever the other two don’t choose. Consolation prize: 3 levels *If you are awarded a code and don’t want it, you may exchange your prize for 10 levels. All codes were obtained in the US and are likely only for the North American versions of the game/console. I cannot vouch for whether they will work on games from other regions. Good luck! 1.) One submission may be made per member. That means only one of your characters can be used. 2.) Human characters only 3.) The contest is open to everyone with an active PANE profile. Don't have one? Get one! 4.) If you have questions, ask in this thread.

Aw yiss a chance to stretch my pokemon fanfic muscles *cracks knuckles* Edit: AND WE'RE OFF!!! Please excuse the terrible punBatty For the Ball (click to showhide) As Roxxy put literal blood and sweat, and maybe a few tears, into the fabric stretched out on the floor in front of her, a distant part of herself reflected on how she'd gotten herself into this mess. It was all her own fault, really; when a stranger approached her as she was waiting for Mutt and Zeta to get healed and handed her a cream envelope, she should have thrown it in the garbage without a moment’s hesitation. The stranger had been wearing a low-brimmed hat and had not spoken at all, merely pressed the paper into Roxxy’s hand and left as quickly and quietly as they’d approached. No one Roxxy half-heartedly asked knew who they were, or in some cases, had even seen them enter. That set off all kinds of alarm bells.
Her name (at least, as far as she could tell - cursive was hard to read) was written on the front of the envelope in bright green ink. And that was it. No return address, no indication of the contents, nothing. Even more reason to discard the thing and get on with her life. But curiosity pounced when she got back to her rented room after a meager dinner, and she opened up the envelope to read what was inside. And then she sat down on the bed, running a hand through her hair. It was an invitation. To a costume ball. For charity. She read the letter a second time, then a third, to make sure her mind wasn't playing tricks on her. Roxxy then folded it back up and laid down, legs dangling off the bed. When she closed her eyes, a grand vision for a costume floated into her head and refused to leave.
She could go as a Crobat. Back in the present, as she finished off attaching the two main pieces of fabric together, Roxxy swore and sucked at her thumb, licking away the small droplet of blood that had welled up. "Stupid needle," she muttered, looking down at her handiwork. She was almost done; there was just "hemming," and then attaching the wings to the cloak. Scraps of plum- and slate-colored fabric littered the room, and the book she'd bought at the same time as all the supplies lay in a corner, hurled against the wall in a fit of headache-induced rage. She wrinkled her nose and put down the fabric, then stood up, stretched, and wandered off to empty her bladder and refill her water cup.
When she could stall no more, it was back to the cape. According to the book, “hemming” involved folding over the edges of the fabric and sewing them down so that they did not fray and shed loose threads all over the place. Perhaps there was more to it, but Roxxy didn’t know; that was the point in the text where she’d hurled the book against the wall and sulked until she fell asleep. She did as the book had told her, carefully folding over a portion of the fabric at a time and sewing it down. With her stitches crawling at a Slugma’s pace, she hemmed the cloak and tried not to bleed on the more visible parts of the fabric. "Zip it!" she snapped at Mutt, who had been chasing his tail for the past few minutes, when she was nearly done. He immediately stopped and tucked his tail between his legs, cowed by the steely tone of his beloved owner's voice. Zeta clicked quietly, fluttering her wings and adjusting herself on Roxxy's shoulder. Roxxy turned back to the cloak, trying the final knot and biting off the string with her teeth. Just the wings left, she thought, grabbing the two fabric-covered wire structures and flipping the cloak over. She'd already marked where they went with her thick black marker, two dots around the shoulder area, making extra sure that they would be symmetrical. It had nearly drained her resources to get all this fabric and the other supplies, and dammit, she owed it to Epsilon to make sure this costume was as perfect as she could get it. It was late, very late, when she finally finished everything; Zeta and Mutt had curled up together in a nest they cobbled together from extra cuttings of cloth. It warmed Roxxy's heart, or what was left of it to warm. Mutt whined, his foot twitching in an imagined chase, but Zeta covered him with one wing to still him, and Roxxy managed a small smile. Her neck and shoulders ached, and her fingers were sore and scabby, but she ignored all of that. Quietly, so as not to disturb her pokemon, she picked up the cloak and mask and went into the adjacent bathroom, turning on the light and shutting the door. Then she put on her costume. The bathroom lighting was harsh fluorescent, and Roxxy assumed that would not be the case for the ball, so she tried not to be too critical of the way the shadows fell. But, for being cobbled together in the space of twelve caffeine-fueled hours by a woman with almost zero prior sewing experience, it still didn't look half bad. At the very least, the colors were correct; the outside of the long cloak was purple and the inside was gray-blue, the same colors as the outside and inside of a Crobat's wings. She'd sewed the bottom of the cloak, which brushed the floor, slightly raggedly for a battle-worn appearance. Completely on purpose, of course. With some extra wire, she'd made a collar that came up to her chin, and the clasp resembled a Crobat's withered and vestigial feet. Her favorite part, though, was the wings. They were to-scale and anatomically correct and a pain in the ass to make. Every other stitch had her cussing and bleeding and stomping around the room, having poked herself with a bit of wire or the needle for the millionth time. But her hard work seemed to be paying off: they were staying up, and they looked accurate. Figuring out what they should look like was...difficult. A lot of old memories resurfaced during her research, especially when she'd made the decision to tear the fabric where Epsilon had an old wound from taking on a Houndour shortly after evolving. If she ever admitted to shedding tears over the costume, the wings would be her go-to portion to point at.
Dearest Epsilon would have been proud, had he not been locked up tight in a PC for an indefinite stay. After twirling and making sure the fact she was wearing jeans and a t-shirt was eclipsed from every angle (and also totally not wiping tears from her eyes), she put on the mask. Roxxy felt quite clever about it; she'd taken her old GoGoggles and sewn them into a purple mask that imitated a Crobat's ears. When she put it on, the entire upper half of her face was obscured. A bit of dark-colored lipstick “borrowed” from the store, maybe some concealer from the same place, and she was sure to remain anonymous. Not that there would be anyone to recognize her on this region, but one could never be too careful. She twirled again, feeling a bit giddy at having finished such an intricate project all by herself. Now there was just the tiny little matter of actually getting herself to the ball.

I totally forgot about this. Meant to enter sooner...... now I have to rush a bit to get this in before I go to work, so hopefully it isn't too short. Well, here goes nothing. Fox and Wolf...... at a dance? (click to showhide) "You have got to be kidding me."
Scott held his head in his hands as his Ranger partner, Amber, stood next to him.
"Most Rangers would see this as an honor, you know. It's an opportunity to meet some powerful and famous people. And dressing up in a costume really isn't that bad," Amber told him.
"I don't want to do this."
"You don't have much of a choice."
The 10th Annual Diancie Ball was going to be held soon in Petropolis. Although it wasn't publicly acknowledged, the recent terrorist shootdown of a Ranger Blackhawk near Lenolia had most of Ranger Command on edge. Wasn't this an obvious target for another such attack?
And thus, he and Amber were required to go to the ball as hidden security, along with a few dozen other Rangers.
Scott, of course, had no idea how to dance. And dressing up as a Pokemon? To put it bluntly, he was horrified.
"This...... really sucks."
"Just try the costume on already and make sure it fits. I did my best to find something that looks somewhat guy-ish...... so it isn't a Vulpix or Espeon costume or anything girly like that. I did see an amazing dress shaped like a Ninetales though, and I'm sure you would have loved that."
Scott looked down at a box that was sitting on a chair between them. Amber's own costume was sitting folded up neatly in her lap, a green skirt with some yellow stripes that was intended to look like her lead Pokemon, Nikila the Electrike. She even had the tail spikes and green-and-yellow ears, and green gloves that had batteries hooked up to them so she could shock anyone she decided to poke.
He could only be thankful she wasn't trying to make him dress up as his own lead Pokemon, Ruby the Vulpix. A guy in a Vulpix costume would look like a total joke.
Instead, the bag contained an Umbreon costume, intended to look like Ebony. Amber had intended for the two of them to live up to their Fox and Wolf nicknames, so why not? Scott, however, hadn't opened the bag thus far, so he didn't know what it actually looked like.
But now was the time of reckoning.
He took a deep breath and pulled the costume out of the bag.
It was a matching black long-sleeved shirt and pants, both made of a soft cotton-like material that made it almost look like fur. The shirt also had a hood on the back of it, to which two Umbreon ears were attached, and the pants had a tail on them. And, of course, the upper arms and upper legs, ears, and tail all had the yellow rings of an Umbreon.
That was when he noticed that there was a small case still left in the bottom of the bag. It looked like a case for holding contacts for your eyes, and there was a picture on them of the infamous red eyes of an Umbreon.
Oh god. She's even going to make my eyes red? Isn't she going overboard with this whole thing?
"The rings are even glow in the dark," Amber gleamed.
"You can't be serious. It's hard to play security when you glow."
"Well...... there weren't many choices, and all the good ones had glowing rings, unfortunately. And no, I won't let you take the tail off. If you do, I will pin it to your forehead," Amber warned.
"Oh, and by the way, I'm also looking in to getting some costumes for our Pokemon as well. You know, like dressing up Ebony as Scarlet, and Scarlet as Ebony. Wouldn't that be cool?"
Scott sighed and looked out the window. Soon he would have to show this to his Pokemon, and hope that maybe Ruby would get so jealous she'd rip it up and he wouldn't have to go. But if she didn't...... then in a couple of weeks, he'd be living a nightmare.

Well then, almost forgot about this due to some unfortunate events, but still managed to finish my entry! The Portly Prissy Princess and the Fat Fluffy Feathers (click to showhide) Never would Lucie have expected to get mail, especially not something from a wealthy benefactor. While the pudgy girl did wonder how anyone managed to find her since she didn’t have a home, the fact that the invitation was paid by this anonymous person encouraged her to join this costumed ball, as silly as it sounded. Sure, she had been to her fair share of balls (hosted in her own home, to be fair), but never costumed ones. While it didn’t explicitely state that this rich person paid for everything, surely she would be able to trick a few people into helping her. Tugging at heart-strings with the charity aspect would certainly help Lucie with this endeavor, even though she had no idea what a Diancie was, nor did she really care.
She thanked her Purrloin for fetching it, unaware that the devious little feline might have stolen it from someone else and removed their name. To be frank, she didn’t really care: this was her chance to relive the glory days, even if it was for one night. Maybe this costume could also double as a new outfit, so it was best that she make it not too extravagant. No doubt that there would be some overly zealous people dressed in full suits, but Lucie would keep it fairly simple. No need to go crazy because then she’d just look like a circus reject or a clown. She’d stay loyal to the pokémon she chose and that would be it, no need for endless bags of props.
First things first, however… she had to find a pokémon to represent. Snubbull was her first choice, but she wasn’t inspired by it in the least: all that came to mind was wearing a muumuu with a blue ruffled collar, which was definitively not an option. Much too… bleh. Not enough wow. Lucie was determined to find something pink, however. Jinx and Smoochum were too slutty and creepy; Milotic, while beautiful, was much too complicated; Lickitung was gross; Sylveon was too… ribbon-y; Clefairy and Jigglypuff were too simple…
Maybe Spritzee? After all, she did have Pistache, who would work wonderfully as an accessory as well as a model, but could the little fluffy ball of sweet-smelling feathers really be complex enough to base an entire costume on it? She had Purrloin, Litleo and Minccino too, but they were all too simple…
Then it struck her. If Spritzee was too simple, then Aromatisse would work! It already had a rather round body, just like herself, it was pink (and purple), and it was a gorgeous pokémon! She would just need a picture of Aromatisse to make sure she wouldn’t make silly mistakes because of a faulty memory. And to make things easier, Pistache would make her smell like the best thing in the world, which would work wonders with her costume!
While her hair usually was short when she had a home, Lucie’s hair was dramatically longer now, long enough to make two spiky pigtails out of it. She’d need some hair spray to keep them up. While thinking about this minor dilemma, a major one settled into her mind. Aromatisse was purple all over, except for the fluffy tutu, so would it be better for her to dye her hair purple to fit it better? It wouldn’t look too extravagant, and the pigtails would only be for that night, the same applying to the dye.
Lucie realised she was getting carried away, though. First, she needed to actually find the materials needed for her costume, which would be a very elaborate dress. She needed a better dress than the one she reluctantly wore daily, as it was oversized, dirty and tattered. Finding a dress that fit her nowadays was much easier than before, where she was so large that she’d need to have it custom-made… though she would probably take full advantage of the costumed ball situation and have it custom-made anyway. Perhaps she could even use the ball to get herself some soap and a better toothbrush… no use going to a ball and being gross and dirty!
It took very little convincing for the shopkeepers to give in to Lucie’s demands for sanitary products: perfume, toothbrush, shampoo, toothpaste, soap, dental floss, all the most quality merchandise she could find. As soon as the shopkeepers saw the invitation, they seemed to submit to her demands. Before she seeked out the materials for her costume, she got herself cleaned up as best as she could. She even got to clip her nails with a real nail clipper instead of having to improvise! Getting a picture of Aromatisse definitely wasn’t difficult either.
Once clean and sparkling, Lucie went into a tailor shop and made her demands, as she didn’t know how to sew, nor did she care learning such a craft; that’s what these people were for. At first, her tone greatly disturbed the cashier, but he submitted when she showed her invitation, highlighting the fact that it was for a charity. “You’re not making this dress for me, but for this charity! You wouldn’t want Furoh’s Underground to be devoid of pokémon, would you?” she said with the utmost confidence, the fact she had no idea what she was talking about only being visible to someone who was very knowledgeable on the subject of lies and body language, which the cashier wasn’t. He stuttered an embarrassed apology and beckoned the portly girl to follow him, leaving her with the head tailor. The process would take a few days, but the idea of looking wealthy and fancy like before fueled Lucie’s desire and determination. That, and there would probably be a banquet there too; she could eat to her heart’s content!
First, Lucie wanted a purple dress of her size, which the tailor created easily after taking her measurements. The skirt would have to stop below her knees, at the shin, with one side being slit to allow her to show her legs, which would be covered by purple lace stockings. Similarly to the stockings, she would wear shoulder-length purple lace gloves with yellow fingers to emulate an Aromatisse’s little claws. The upper part of the dress itself would need to have a lot of purple fluff that could be removed at will, as it surely would get quite hot; the shoulders in particular would need the fluff to be quite spiky to properly imitate an Aromatisse’s fluffy feathers.
The most difficult part of the dress, much to the chagrin of the tailor, would be the lower part of the dress: the skirt. It would need to be extremely fluffy, three times more than the upper part. Furthermore, the feathery materials used needed to be bright pink. The hardest part would be to make it look organic and not like a hastily-made children’s Halloween costume. Thankfully, this was the last part of the dress that needed to be made, so the tailor told Lucie to come back in a few days, much to her chagrin. She didn’t understand why it would take ‘a few days’ when the other parts barely took one, but no matter how often he explained it, she didn’t want to listen. She eventually did leave him be for a while, making sure to tell him to hurry up in a haughty tone of voice.
Now for the cosmetics part.
First, the hairdresser.
Lucie waltzed in like she owned the place, reinvigorated by this whole ball affair. She beckoned one of the hairdressers and voiced her usual spiel about the ball and the charity. When the hairdresser accepted despite seeming a bit confused, Lucie showed her the Aromatisse picture. “I want my hair to look like that the day of the ball,” she ordered, making the hairdresser sigh a little.
“Well, I’m not too sure how I could make the blonde streak still appear… unless… let’s try something,” she said, half-pensive. Lucie sat in the chair the lady gave her and started looking through hair dyes to find the one that best matched the color of Aromatisse’s feathers. After finding it, she did everything she could to make Lucie’s resemble Aromatisse’s head feathers as much as possible. Though not perfect, it seemed to satisfy the gluttonous youth, which pleased the young hairdresser.
“I’ll just visit again the day of the ball so you can style it the way I need it to be,” was all Lucie said after her approval, and off she went, unaware of the young lady muttering against her behind her back.
Finding mascara to make her lashes fuller was extremely easy, but Lucie found herself pondering about Aromatisse’s eyes: did she want to go full pokémon and get faithful lenses to have exactly the same eyes as the pokémon she chose, or should she just go with lenses of a similar color? It didn’t take much time for her to decide on the latter choice: having the same eyes as an Aromatisse would simply look bizarre and kooky, not to mention freaky, so orange lenses it would be!
There was but one problem left to take care of: the face. Did Lucie really want to paint her face white for the purpose of this costume? The answer was a categoric no, but Lucie did get an idea: she would get a Mardi Gras-esque mask to complement her outfit! That way, she would be able to take it off whenever she got annoyed at it, and it would fit the costume, as well as being the only prop she needed.
Finding a mask maker wasn’t very difficult once she started asking around, and convincing the meek bespectacled man who made them was just as easy: the spiel about the ball and the charity was enough as always. Luckily for the man, making an Aromatisse-themed mask wasn’t very difficult, and he finished it on the same day Lucie’s dress was done.
After trying everything on and making sure the whole thing wasn’t too hot (which it wasn’t), Lucie waited until the day of the ball to return to the hairdresser’s to get her hair redyed (the purple dye was starting to fade) and restyled so everything would fit together well. This time, the young portly girl did thank the hairdresser, on cloud nine, before looking at herself in the mirror, making a few poses with and without her mask and beloved Spritzee. Everything fit perfectly, nothing was too tight or too loose.
She had forgotten what it felt like to wear clothes that weren’t oversized, and it felt amazing. Gone were the times where she looked in the mirror and saw a dirty, ugly hag. Gone were the times where she felt like a dirty, ugly hag. She was simply ecstatic, the shallow and materialistic part of her mind being completely fulfilled. She looked pretty, felt pretty and sounded pretty, and that made her extremely happy. After looking at herself in the mirror as much as she wanted, she departed for the ball.
But she just had one little problem.
Where the hell was Petropolis?

QUOTE(Darkrow @ Nov 13 2014, 10:08 AM) Since I already have the demo and Diancie, I'll be taking 10 levels. Levels granted! QUOTE Sweet! Lots of congrats to Darkrow, that was a really good story. I'll take that Diancie code then, please. Code sent! QUOTE I honestly would rather have 10 levels than the ORAS demo. I presume we can apply those levels now and don't have to wait until the end of any RP's we are in? Levels granted! You may apply them now!
