When I play Pokemon and make a team, I always make sure there are certain types in the team. I always have to have a Fire, Water, Electric, Flying, and Psychic type. The last slot can be filled by something else. (Flying and Water are particularly important due to need for Fly and Surf) Currently the last slot it filled by Weavile, the Dark/Ice type. Once I found I could have Sneasel in the game I captured one right away, Sneasel being a Pokemon I've loved but couldn't get in the games I had previously. However, Weavile is reaching Lvl. 100 soon so I'm going to have to pick a different Pokemon. This time, it will be Sceptile. I've never used a Grass type Pokemon. They've always seemed weak, but I've taken a liking to Treecko and his evolutions so I'm giving it a try. After Sceptile, I'm using Marowak, a ground Pokemon.

So, when you make a team, do you use Pokemon of a certain type? Do you have a balanced team like I try to have or do you use Pokemon of the same types at once? Is there a type you must always have in your party at all times?

I always have a flying and a bug pokemon. Everything else varies with my starter, which in turn affects the composition of the rest of my team.

I usually have Dragon types on my team. If I don't, I turn out worse than usual.

I tend to have at least 1 Normal Pokemon. Since my favorite pokemons are Chatot and Ursaring and I have the pressing need to put either of them in my team. Otherwise I try to have a balanced team (With Pokemons I like)

Electric, Water, Fire and psychic are always there.
I also often have either a ghost or dark type, and a flying Pokèmon (right now in my Platinum party I have no flying type, Giratina (Dragon/Ghost) knows Fly though. I've started getting grass types for my parties too because so many trainers are using half water/ground types where my electric moves won't work. Right now my Platinum party is constructed so they can get Super Effective on any type (double types are still a bit tricky, but I'm certain they can counter most, other than Sableeye and Spiritomb of course..) and I'm planning a similar party for HGSS.

I try to have a balanced team. Never ends up that way lol,always have one exploitable weakness.

Always have a water type though. Always the starter water type

I tend to have a Flying type on me so I can use Fly. Other than that, I haven't played lately to recall what I have on my team. :/

I tend to only play till I beat the gyms and the E4. I should play through the games further, but I hate how competitive the Battle frontier feels.

i always have certain pokemon depending on the starter... ffire starter, flying, electric, water,psychic, ghost.

There's gotta be a water. Always with the water. Usually I attempt to get in a Dark type too, but that varies with the game. Like in LeafGreen, I'm trying Bug type, even though I HATE bug type. So yeah.

Always water and always flying, siiiigh. Well, my main enjoyment is from replaying the whole game again so it's a necessary evil. But the rest of the slots I try to mix things up with.

Though really for me it's more "what pokemon do you NEVER have" because I have never had a fire pokemon aside from a starter, I never use ghost, or steel or dark or rock, really, either. Definitely have to work on mixing things up ever more.

I always have a flying pokemon, In most games that is a pideot, but in D/P/P it is a Staraptor.

And I always have a lighning and a dark because they are my favourite elements

I always have the following:

Flying/levitator: A nice check to the ground moves, which are ever so common, and it's always nice to have something to avoid spikes/toxic spikes.

Steel: Has many resistances; 12/17 types, if I recall correctly. Is also immune to sandstorm, which most teams have thanks to Hippowdon and Tyranitar, immune to toxic spikes/toxic stall, it resists the commonly used dragon and ice moves and it has a stealth rock resistance. It's a type that is seen in almost every team today.

Dragon: STAB draco meteors hurt just about anything. Plus, most dragons have a movepool that covers a lot of types and keeps many other threats in check.

Ghost: Well, in most teams, anyways. A good type for blocking explosions, fighting moves and blocking rapid spin. A good type to have overall.

It depends on what your strategy is.
I quite like normal pokemon myself, but Steel can be helpful against non-fire, etc. type pokemon.

I don't think I've ever had a Normal type in my main team for the game, though that changes after I finish the game and start raising random pokemon.

I always have a Gyarados in my main team. A flying type, too, for Fly. My starter is usually the Fire one, so Fire as well, I guess. No Grass, most of the time, and the rest vary, but tend toward Electric/Dragon/Psychic/Ground/Dark.

I always have a Water, Flying, Electric and Fighting. For my other two I have one that's either Psychic or Ghost, and another that's either Fire or Normal. If I can get a Dark, Ice, or Ground in there by way of dual-types that's awesome too.

Water: starter, uses waterfall/surf.
Flying: to fly, that versions pidgey.

Then anything cool/cute/powerfull/rare, hopefully a grass. ( they need more cool/cute/powerfull/rare grass pokes) and some cool/cute/powerfull/rare HM users. Maybe a dragon or elctric.

I always always always have a flying type, usually the "pidgy" of whatever version I"m playing. And I always get a psychic type as soon as possible.

I also always have a Raichu by the end of the game but sometimes it takes a while to get a pikachu/pichu since I"ve never been big on trading.

i usually have fire,water,electric dragon, steel, dark, ice, psychic, normal, fighting, ghost, rock, ground, bug, flying, poison, grass, and shadow (not really a type but whatever) types, but most of the time in platinum: palkia, giratina, typhlosion, skymin, raikou and my pokemon that was hardest to catch ever... (well find... i had the master ball still) black rayquaza

there were only two exceptions to this rule.

diamond team:

my team was infernape, staraptor, octillery, snorlax, weavile, and girafarig. there was no grass type.

sapphire team:

swampert, raichu, altaria, donphan, kyogre, manectric. two water and electric types, a flying/dragon and a ground type.

Usually I pick treecko in emerald, i search for skitty and taillow. (I usually can't find skitty, ugh!)
In platinum I pick piplup*(its so cute! )then find shinx.

I always have a Fire, Water, Flying and Electric Pokemon. I used to have also a Grass Pokemon, but I changed my mind as Grass wasn't very useful, as Water beats Rock and Ground and Electric beat Water...
I usually also have a Dark type (they are my favourites in general), but not always, since they're not much useful.

Fire and Flying. For Emerald I did Blaziken and Swablu (the evolution, forgot its name). For Diamond, since I don't like Chimchar, I got Piplup and Staraptor. I mainly use Staraptor though, as well with a traded Buizel and another water pokemon.

I always have to have a water pokemon in my party and as of Jhoto, a Dark Pokemon. Usually my party consists of My starter which is always a water type, 1 or 2 legendaries, A dragon type that doubles as a Dark type, and a few random miscellaneous ones

The only party I can think of off hand is my party from Sapphire which consists of A Kyogre, Salamence, Latias, Marshstomp, Flygon, and Umbreon I think

Generally speaking I go nowhere without a Flying-type (or a Pokemon that can Fly) and a Pokemon that can use Surf. (Surfing Pikachu love.)

That, and I generally always have a Psychic-type in my team.

When I was young, my sister always made sure I had a flying, grass, water and fire Pokemon in my team otherwise she'd tell me to catch them. Because it's been happening since I was young, it's already bonked into my brain to have those 4 Pokemon types.

Grass is always seemz to be my starter, so I rarely have problems with Grass. Most of my trouble comes from fire Pokemon.

Normally an Electric because they seem to mostly be cute. ((Pachirisu, Plusle, Minun etc))
A fire is always among the group aswell ((Houndoom, Flareon))

I always have a flying type and a grass type always. I'm not a big fan of using legendarys in my party and will only use them if I am too impatient to grind my party for the elite four. Also I try and get a Primeape, and a Butterfree.

I always have my starter, which is always water, a dragon type (LUV ), a pseudo legend of some sort, a psychic or steel type, a pokemon that can fly, a pokemon that is a rock slave (graveller usually) (rock slave = rock climb, rock smash, strength), a legend or two, arceus (permanent), the first pokemon I catch at the start of the game level up to ridiculously high levels for a bird/bug (most commonly bird), a cut and flash slave, and a hacked shiny I got over the global trade station for a lv 96 rayquaza clone (emerald cloning trick ) that is awesome to right with, which I have a lot of. I usually have 6 of them out of that list, but the main types that always stays in my party are water and dragon.

Water, yes, for convenience.. Surf, Waterfall, Dive, Whirlpool, etc.
I usually pick the grass type starter as well, who stays in my team.. and a flying type for Fly.

The rest varies. I used to be quite.. unwavering about types. I'd have fire/water/grass/flying/electric.. and then one which was either normal or psychic or something like that.
Now I'm a lot more relaxed.. not sure why I decided that that particular arrangement made a balanced team, but hey.
I like having Ground types in my team, now. And usually there's a Bug type I've had in my team.. one of the ones which evolves first, and ends up having to go into the PC due to not keeping up with the others, strengthwise :c

I've never really cared much for having a balanced team, I usually just put a whole bunch of my favourites in there, which almost always constitutes of at least one or two Dark types. If I can I have Absol, Sharpedo, Tyranitar, Murkrow/Honchkrow, Umbreon or Houndoom. Those are some of my favourite Dark types, and it usually works out well for me. Whichever ones I manage to have in there end up being the deciding factors for the rest of my team.

I tend to lean towards fire types, especially those that can also fly.

I always have the basic fire, water, grass, and electric. Usually flying, because of the fly move. After I fill those spaces, I use what's left as the type of my choice. I like to use dual types as much as possible so I can fit more types in, but never more than once of the same type.

In games; No specific type.

I was never really a fan of focusing on one type's Strengths and Weaknesses.
I'm like a Cooltrainer. I have one type that boosts another type in my team.

But if I had to choose; I'd go with Psychic types because they can learn moves to defend their weaknesses.
IE; Elemental Punches, Focus Blast, etc.

I still like to have Fire, Grass and Water type Pokemon in my teams. Electric isn't necessary, but I also like to have a Pokemon with Fly so one spot often goes for a Flying type.

I usually end up having at least one Ground and Fighting type and rarely stock Electric or Dragon (which I must change in the future).

Though a solid Normal type is almost always welcomed because sometimes you just need brute force.

I always have a Flying, Fighting, Fire type. I love all the fire starters and all but one are part flying/fighting. I mostly only carry water Pokemon when I need to surf/waterfall some where then when I'm done back in the box. Except in my Platinum team where I added Swampert.

Ever since Generation 1 I've always felt the need to have a Psychic in my party. Although since Generation 3 that Psychic is always Gardevoir if it's available. Another one is Steel types.

personally, i always try to get a poison type in, heavily disliked because bad guys always use them but the can own if your strategic enough, weezing and drapion are personal poison favourites.

I always have to have a Ghost type in my team since they are my favorite, but I like to throw Dark and Physic types in too.

As a rule, I always have a Water-type. In-game, that's usually the Starter, though when battling against other people online, usually Swampert and/or Vaporeon. Post-Elite Four in-game, usually Vaporeon, because most I have tend to carry Surf, which can be pretty handy when you're randomly wandering around.

In-game, you could say I try to use Pokemon I wouldn't usually use in online play-- with a few exceptions. There are still Pokemon I'll never ever ever use for battling, anywhere.

I always have my starter which usually is grass

normally a flying type.
one dark, psychic or ghost pokemon.

During Story Mode, Grass, which is usually my starter, Flying for...flying, and a Normal type for versatility. During postgame, just Flying, for the same reason.

For in-game, I always need a Water (since it's a ton of the dex) and Flying type with me, for Surf/Fly purposes. I'll most likely have a Grass type with me as well for type coverage. Ground and Psychic types are often used a lot as well.

Atm I'm going with Rock & Electric. Gigalith seems to just take anything out for me.. >_> I'm playing White currently, and am training an Eelektrik as I've heard that particular electric type pokemon is a steady thang' to have in yo' partayyy~ once fully evolved & has the right moves etc. :S

Well, in my party always is some Grass type pokemon, main reason for this is my obsession with grass pokemons. Also, usually I have fly or fire type ones, they just help while playing Oh, and water pokes as HM slaves

I always make sure to have a water-type in my party. They're pretty dependable, especially since they learn so many HMs.
I normally have either a flying- or dragon-type as well, because they can usually learn Fly.
And I almost always end up with a ghost-type on my team. I absolutely love ghost-types!

I love variety for personal reasons and for different strategies in battle. I always have an electric, fire, water, and fire types for the basics. It better when they have dual types too. Mostly Id choose psychic and a dark/rock type, or an ice type. One of those types has to be flying too so I can get to places quicker :p

I always try to have at least one Dark-type, or else a Poison/Ghost-type in the case of older generations when there weren't as many Dark-types. I like to make 'sinister' teams, where my Pokemon aren't at all cutesy. A Flying-type's almost always in my team too as I like to fly around. Except in the case of White, it's Golurk (and Volcarona too when I want Bug/Fire).

Well, I can't speak for my Pokemon Black because the team is constantly changing. But any game prior to that, there always seems to be a normal on my team.
Also, in just about all of the earlier games, I seemed to have had a Graveler. Rock/Ground. I also always had a flyer.

I usually try to keep quite a varied team, but I think I always have a Fire-type, a Flying-type and an Electric-type on me, 'cause I find those particular types quite useful. And a Water-type nearer the end of the game, when you've got Surf, 'cause you never know when you'll need to Surf.

Those usually make up most of my party, with a flying type here or there. Depending on the gym, though, I'll likely switch things up.

I can't not go without having at least a Fire and Water type (the former because I <3 that type, and the latter because how else will I use the Water HMs?) But with G6 significantly changing the Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors lineup, I've realized that I'm using Steel and Poison types far more often. Y'know, to counter those occasional pesky Fairy-types.

Ghost-types are my favorites, so I almost always use one. The only games in recent memory in which I haven't used a ghost are my first Black 2 and White 2 runs.

Otherwise, I've used a Chandelure in Black and X, Jellicent in White, Froslass in my second White 2 run, Banette in my second Black 2 run, and Aegislash in Y.

I always have Psychics in my team. Usually with insanely trained Sp Atk EVs and such. They always work for me, so it's become a habit to nab an Abra as soon as I can so I can get Kadabra as early as possible, then try for an Alakazam at some point near lvl50.
