Anyway, out of nostalgia I decided to pick up my Gold version and start playing. I've got seven badges and am in training to get my eighth. I decided to pick up the EXP Share so that I could get my Krabby on the team. I did the usual "keep it last and let everything stronger win all the battles" trick, but when I faced the wild Pokemon, I decided to let Krabby get some experience, considering its opponents were all Gravelers who got one-shotted with Surf. Anyway, once the battle finished, Krabby gained its usual experience, but then it gained the experience twice!

So, I have discovered that in these games, EXP Share has a glitch (?) where your Pokemon holding it will gain the experience twice. That means half the training time. grin.gif

I don't think it's a glitch. The thing is, if the Pokemon holding it didn't battle, it will get the EXP as though it did... and if it did battle, it will get that bonus as well as the normal EXP it gets from winning.
...Did that make sense?

Well, as far as I know, that didn't happen in any other games.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it didn't happen. If a Poke with EXP share fought a battle and won, it'd be normal exp.

If you switched to it, then the first poke gets 1/4, the exp one 3/4

I do believe it works that the Poke holding exp share gets half the exp automatically, then the rest is split between whoever fought. So it's pretty cool that EXP doubles in Gold grin.gif

It's not gaining any extra EXP. It's just how the game's coded to show the EXP gain. First, it gives half the EXP to the pokemon that actually fought. Then, the one holding the EXP Share gets the remaining half. I just verified this with my Silver and my Gold carts. My Raikou was holding the EXP Share, and was the first one out. I immediately switched for Pidgeot, and took out the wild pokemon with Tackle. Raikou got 5 EXP, Pidgeot got 5 EXP. Those are the two that were out. Then, Raikou gets 11 EXP for holding the EXP Share. In the later games, they just streamlined the coding so that each pokemon got their EXP all at once. It's still the same amount.
