I'm gonna slide towards Haiti because they literally had no way to prepare for an earthquake economically, nor due to the fact that seismic activity in that region of such caliber is very uncommon. Despite the fact that Chile had a much more powerful Earthquake then Haiti, they have by far the most stringent building policies I've ever seen in a nation because Chile is RIGHT ON the major Nazca and the South American tectonic plates. Due to those extremely strict building guidelines it saved far more lives then could have been lost. Now say if L.A. County was hit by an 8.8 scale earthquake you'd all be pleading for welfare yourselves because the entire damn region would be completely flattened. Don't be a heartless bastard because natural catastrophes "can't and never will happen where I live."

It's Chile not "chili" Even though the one on Chile was 8.8, the one on Haiti was much more destructive. Plus, Chile can recuperate much faster than Haiti because they are not as fucked-up as Haiti both economically and in damages. Actually I don't think Chili was destructed more, because Haiti was already a very poor country so it already looked like a war zone basically. So it looks worse, I believe Yeah I was pretty sure chili's earthquake was stronger but Chilli was ready or in better shape then Haiti -------------------- |

Personally I think Americans should really focus on their homeland then stick their nose in other country's business natural disaster or whatever. Yes I am American too.

More people died in Haiti because they didn't know what to do in an earthquake, there was more destruction, and the country is poor.
Chile has good building codes so there wasn't much destruction, not as many people died because they had practice with earthquakes, and the country has enough money to support themselves. People need to stop looking at the magnitude and more at the end result. -------------------- |
