I have been wanting to buy a Nintendo DS to play Pokemon in it for a while now. My main interest is to play Pokemon in it but I might be interested (less of course) in a few other games. I am thinking of buying the LE version too (so shiny). I am wondering if it's worth it.... just for Pokemon. I'm short of money and it would take me a few months to save enough for one.
What do you think of this? Opinions/thoughts appreciated -------------------- |

I bought mine just to play Pokemon, but I bought a used one in order to save money. I'd say to shop around to find the best price possible on the one you want.
It's not like they're going to stop making Pokemon games any time soon, so it would still be worth your time to buy. I don't know if you can still find them anywhere, but I bought an old DS that still had the GBA slot so that I could play my older Pokemon games, too. That'll increase it's value, if you've ever played the GBA games. You can use the transfer function in the DS games to import GBA pokemon into them. It'll save you from having to buy another DS in order to trade, if you don't have a friend to trade with. Importing won't evolve Pokemon like Haunter/Kadabra, though. In the end, you can do what you want, but this is what I did to keep me from feeling like I had wasted my money. My used DS has lasted me a good while, too. I've had it for several years. Blak99Psy that sounds like a very good idea. I might buy a slightly used one that will be cheaper and will still have the GBA slot. Can't wait!
I'm not a fan of buying used electronics though *sigh* -------------------- |

If you're going to go with the used option, it never hurts to ask them for the best conditioned one they have in stock.
Also, if DS's are sold in a store that is not all-electronics, the price might be cheaper, even for a brand new one. -------------------- |

Pokemon is the only reason I owned a Gameboy Color, and it's the only reason I'm looking at getting a DS. I'm just worried that I'll have to own about 10 different systems in the future just to play all the Pokemon games I like. I wouldn't mind just collecting the remakes of the originals I used to love so much.
DS sure is pricey, and the games aren't cheap either but it's Pokemon and you get hours upon hours out of it even without a friend to play with! I'd say it'd be a worthy thing to save up for. -------------------- |

I bought a DS strictly for the Gen 4 games, now I have a ton of DS games.

Flareon can use dive and aim for the horn. Then finish it off with False Swipe although it may faint if it uses Endure...but thats just because everyone knows Arbok evolves into Seviper |

A DS just to play pokemon? Sure, why not?
If you're interested, there are also quite a number of other good games for the DS...even if there is a lot of crap. As for me, I bought a DS blindly because they stopped making GBA games and they were now making DS games. What can I say? I enjoyed it. Well, I have to say. It WOULD be worth it to buy Pokemon games on a regular Nintendo DS, especially new timers for Pokemon. This gives the oppurtunity to buy games like D/P, along with the GBA slot for games such as FR/LG.
This would be great for the 3DS too, with it unique function with GB Games, so you can (if) you can play G/S/C. Of course, you could buy alot of other side games, including the Ranger Series, Trozei, and the Dungeon Series. |

I'm going to say if you are going to play Pokemon, I suggest you wait for the 3DS. Why? Because other games are going to be made for the DS. It is really nice to have a game console that has the potential to play other games. I bought my DS for Pokemon, and was immediately hook on the platform. It truly is an innovate little bugger! 3D games with touch screen? that exhibits so much win. Don't buy a used one honestly.
Go big or go home. When you buy a used DS, there is always going to be doubt. "Are there going to be scratches?" "Any mechanical problems?" "Battery life?" I wouldn't want to wish that on anyone. New timers to Pokemon should go for the 3DS. You can wait right? It's not like you are in a rush to play the game right now because if you were, you'd have already bought one and gotten the Heart Gold and Soul Silver. It's already so late in the year, might as well wait a bit longer. -------------------- |

The DS has possibly the best library of games among all gaming platforms this generation.

I upgraded to a DS Lite when the Gen 4 games came out, and probably at least 2/3 of my DS games are Pokémon - and I do actually have quite a lot of games.
I definitely recommend going for one with a GBA slot, not least because it might be nice to play a Gen3 game on a shiny bright screen. -------------------- |
