Flying Pokémon often make up a large part of the backbone of a region. Here are a few that have been revealed to be introduced in Generation V:
Mamepato, the Baby Pigeon Pokémon, appears to be Isshu's equivalent of Pidgey, Starly, etc. It can have the ability Pigeon Breast () or Super Luck. Koromori, the Bat Pokémon, is a Psychic/Flying type. It can have the ability Unaware or Klutz. Last, but not least in my mind... Wargle, the Valor Pokémon, is a Normal/Flying type. It seems to be based off of the Bald Eagle. Wargle can have the ability Keen Eye or Invigorate. My thoughts: I imagine that Mamepato will be quite common among players beginning their Isshu journey. Although I'm wondering what that "Pigeon Breast" ability is all about... Koromori is, as of current knowledge, the only Pokémon outside of the Bidoof line to have the Unaware ability. Its other ability, Klutz, could be an advantage. Since it's a Psychic, there's a possibility it'll get Skill Swap, allowing it to transfer this annoying ability to an opponent. Wargle is my favorite Pokémon among the new ones that are currently known, bird and non-bird alike. I can guaruntee you that it will be able to learn Brave Bird by leveling up, probably at a lower level than others who learn it. Although I'm a little surprised that Pokémon, a Japanese company, would make an American-like Pokémon. Like Mamepato, I'm curious as to what its unknown ability does. So what are your thoughts on these newly discovered birds? This post has been edited by Dinoyipi: Aug 1 2010, 01:25 PM -------------------- |

You forgot the stork, and Hatooboo. But meh.
Pigeon heart, according to Serebii (Dont hurt me, its the only pokemon site I know with this info.), seems to prevent stat lowering. I love Wooguru! And now that someone pointed it out, he does look like a bald eagle... That puffball bat scares me. -------------------- My Party

Isn't the ability known as Pigeon Heart? xD But Pigeon Breast sounds pretty funny, I have to admit.
Also I applaud you on making a fairly unique thread in the Fifth Generation forums. I am a fan of Wooguru's design myself, and I think you're right that Mamepato will be the Starly of the fifth generation. I also think they'll run rampant around Hiun, ahaha. -------------------- |

I get my information from Bulbapedia. No, I didn't quote anything in the OP... Good for you. That doesn't mean Bulba is right. It also doesn't mean that Serebii's translation to Pigeon Heart is correct either. However, the character limit for abilities is the same as for moves: twelve. Pigeon Heart uses twelve exactly, while Pigeon Breast uses thirteen. (Yes, spaces count.) That aside. Koromori doesn't really look like a bird to me, and TECHNICALLY if it's a Bat Pokemon, it isn't a bird, as bats are mammals. Actually it looks like a flying fuzzball. xD Almost reminds me of the Slime in Dragon Quest, strangely, even though they don't look similar at all. -------------------- |

Mamepato looks very cute, I think it will have an awesome evolution. Seriously hoping it's not Wooguru.
And what's with all of you guys saying Wooguru is American colored? Just because it has Red/Blue/White? Swellow is also Red/Blue/White and it's not patriotic. Also, what about Hatooboo/Swan-like Pokemon? They are most probably going to be connected, as Hatooboo does look like a mini-swan. And I'm liking those two very much too. As for Koromori, I'm happy it didn't ruined Zubats unique typing, but I'm sad it's Psychic type. I'm hoping for some kick-ass evolution, then I'll talk. On another note, Mamepato is probably going to be this generations Pidgey/Hoothoot/Taillow/Starly, while I was thinking Wooguru might be Spearow/Wingull. Or maybe Hatooboo. Or vica-versa. -------------------- |

Wargle is in my team since now!
I think Wargle is based in the Harpy eagle and in the Native Americans (because the colors). Harpy is the largest bird of prey in the world. The adults have around 2,5 m wingspan and 10 kg - Yes, it's huge! (But have register of bigger Harpias... *Scary*) It live in South America and Central America in varios enviroments like montains, sea coast and tropical florests like Amazon Florest. -------------------- |

For some reason I think Wargle might be connected to Swellow in some way... It might be a distant cousin... Actually, I think that the Wargle is one of those lone species - kinda like Chatot. They don't evolve and they have no pre-evos. Also. @ Tatatorterra ... Wargle is kinda based on the bald eagle. You know. The symbol for America; it's also the colours of America, red white and blue. (Even though a lot of other countries have those colours, they're most commonly associated with America.) So it's been a bit confirmed that it's based off of the bald eagle of America. -------------------- ニート御三家 ☆ミ |

Wargle looks so badass, I hope it'll have quite good base stats. I haven't really seen many flying/normal type pokemon used a lot.

This is just speculation, but I think Hatooboo is going to be the evolution of mamepato.
Also, Wargle looks like and eagle with a Native American headdress. Mad Hatter, I have a feeling you will change your Stephen Colbert bird once these games come out. -------------------- |

So it's been a bit confirmed that it's based off of the bald eagle of America. Confirmed by who? I haven't heard of this. It looks like a bald eagle until you get the the head dress. which makes it look like a harpy, or at least anything but a bald eagle. It looks like more than just one type of eagle to me. The head dress could be an attempt to make it look more Native American as well as with the subdued colors, thus making it uber American. But I've yet to see any real conformation that it's based entirely off of the bald eagle. Also, Swallows can be American, they're just not a patriotic symbol. So I guess not AMERICAN in all caps the way you put it. This is just speculation, but I think Hatooboo is going to be the evolution of mamepato. That's what I was thinking too. It has the same weird... err, waddle thing. Also, Pigeon Breast/Heart prevents DEFENSE from being lowered. It's like Hyper Cutter only different. And this topic is missing this. I speculate it will be Water/Flying. It's got a bit of blue on it, obviously webbed feet, and Swans live in the water so... yeah. Gee, another Water/Flying.
Gyarados, Mantine, Pelliper and now swan too? Oh Arceus please no. Although only type I see it be is Water/Flying, I seriously hope it's Hatooboo evolution and that it is Normal/Flying. -------------------- |

My favorite of the new birds is Wooguru. I love eagles so much, plus it looks kick-@$$. It will definitely find a place on my team if we can get it early enough in the games.
