I just bought the Sun and Moon Flutes from the prize shop and after going to the lab and my inventory, thinking they were summoning items for Solgaleo and Lunala, they didn't do anything. No prompt from the lab, nothing. Does anyone know what these actually do, I'd hate to find out that I wasted my points and bought them both for no reason at all.

They're Special Evolution Items, so I'm guessing they'll be used to evolve Cosmoem whenever we get it.

...really? There's a post RIGHT below this one asking about what the Moon Flute does. Just like in that post, the answer is the same: "they don't do anything yet. Wait and see."
