I always wondered if anyone besides me liked Garchomp better than Flygon. Vote for your favorite!

Garchomp's way better than Flygon. That's why Garchomp's an Uber. A properly raised Garchomp can two-hit KO almost anything that's below Uber. When it comes to Stats, Garchomp not only beats Flygon, but leaves it in the dust. It has almost all higher Stats higher Stats than Flygon, except Special Attack which they tie in. Of course, when it comes to 'liking' some people probably like Flygon more because Garchomp's Uber.
So, I obviously like Garchomp more. -------------------- I say... whatever it is I'm saying.

Garchomp is banned in standard play. Flygon isn't as powerful, sure, but you can still use it. With Garchomp, you have to take it to Ubers, where it goes from being the big dog in town to just another Dragon-type.
Flygon is a far more useful Pokemon in Double Battles. It has an immunity to both Ground and Electric, allowing you to use it along with another Pokemon that uses Discharge/Earthquake. It has access to a variety of useful moves such as Heat Wave, Thunder/Firepunch, and U-Turn. Flygon has a far better design. The goggle-like domes surrounding its eyes, the diamond shaped wings, the green stripes... it is a very cute Pokemon. Garchomp, on the other hand, it hideous. It looks nothing like a shark, which it is appearently supposed to resemble. The eyes make it look like it partakes in the use of some illegal substance. The arms look like sticks with flags drooping down from them. The jet-pack things on the sides of its face are a source of sheer WTFery. The shiny sprites are radically different in quality. Flygon changes from red/green to orange/blue. The change is quite noticable but not unpleasant. Garchomp is a slightly different shade of blue than normal. Were it not for the stars at the beginning, you could not tell the difference. In-game, Flygon is far better. It can be caught relatively early in R/S/E. With the lack of an Ice or Dragon-type gym, there is no need to worry about type advantages until the Elite Four. By that time, the rest of your Pokemon should be able to back it up. Flygon can also learn fly, allowing you to keep another slot open instead of giving it to a random bird. Garchomp is found far too late in the game to be of much use. It slows down the rest of your team's training by draining away a ton of exp. points before it even evolves once. On top of that, one of the first gyms you face after first being able to capture it is a difficult Ice-type gym. Assuming that you are around the same level as the rest of the E4: Flygon: Speedy Dragon-type moves deal with Drake. Crunch deals with Phoebe. Flamethrower takes care of Glacia, Skarmory, Metagross, and Cacturne. The rest can be dispatched with Earthquake. I have taken down the entire E4 with just my Flygon numerous times. Garchomp: Fire-type moves for Lucario, Roserade, and Aaron. Bertha needs to be taken down with Earthquakes or sheer force. Flint can be dealt with by Earthquakes, but by now you'll be running low on PP. Unless you have been EV training it, a lot of Cynthia's Pokemon will be faster than it, including her own Garchomp. Her Milotic will also be quite difficult to beat. So, in closing, Garchomp is more powerful, but it does not matter because it is confined to the Uber tier where it is overshadowed constantly by more powerful Dragons. Flygon is far more pleasing to look at, and has access to more useful moves than Garchomp has. -------------------- |

I kinda sorta beg to differ when you say Garchomp looks nothing like a shark. The head and eyes resemble that of a hammerhead shark, so that clears that part up. The arms are supposed to be fins. It also has a dorsal fin and the tail fins are on the end of its tail. It is a land shark, however, so it may not look exactly like a shark but close enough. I'll give it to you with the shiny thing, I was disappointed when I saw Garchomp's shiny colors. For in game... uh... all this just confuses me between what Azure Butterfly and Ace Trainer Chaos have said. I will say, however, that in Platinum it is easy to obtain a Gible quickly, so there's no problems leveling it up and everything for in game use. However, I think that Garchomp isn't necessarily an Uber... it may have higher stats but it is not a legendary... um... I'm kinda lost about that part, so I'll just let it go. Props to Flygon on it's cool and sleek appearance, but Garchomp can measure up with its intimidating look. Between both for appearance I probly couldn't decide... but I favor Garchomp a little more because its first and second forms actually make sense. -------------------- |

I've always preferred Flygon myself. It's nothing against Garchomp, but Flygon always just seemed, well, cooler than Garchomp. No offense to anyone who thinks differently I just think Garchomp was kinda dumb-looking...
That and my bud G Shayde gave me a Trapinch egg in diamond and I've stuck with it all the way even when I COULD have gotten a Gible. -------------------- |

I think garchomp was done a bit of a disservice by it's designer, because it's an interesting concept but to me falls flat in how it has been realized.
I like flygon quite a bit though, it strikes a fair balance between cute and cool looking, and remains a useful pokemon at the same time. I think the only other dragon type I like more is Dratini for sheer cuteness and Dragonair for general neatness. Also, antlions are awesomeness in a bottle. -------------------- |

Flygon.
Maybe because I like an antilion over a wierd looking shark.... thing. Or maybe because I prefer third generation over fourth.... I don't have either, so don't ask me how I should judge it by attacks. -------------------- Avatar and userbar by Monsieur Mittens.

Both are a good choice. Flygon has Levitate, whilst Garchomp doesn't. Although Garchomp is an uber, it's awesome. So I voted both are great

I would say Flygon. I prefer Gabite to Garchomp anyway and Flygon just looks more like a dragon.
Also, it looks cooler! -------------------- (click the banner below to view a random user) Thank you CDB for the banner and the avatars! Also, the lovely avatars(and the Slowking plush) was made by Anthony Edward Stark! Personality Test (click to show ) Groups I'm in(plus shops) (click to show ) |
