How do people come up with names for their Pokemon?
--- Ralts - Poison: I don't know if talking about why the name Poison is given to an eventual male Gardevoir could be construed as offensive or inapropriate content, but suffice to say, just look up Poison from Final Fight and you'll get the picture. Poliwag - The Tadd: Scrubs reference. Bidoof - Derrrrrp: Even the mere mention of its origin would almost definitely be offensive and inappropriate. Besides, everyone knows. -------------------- |

I've got a name idea for my Houndour, but it depends on what its gender will be. I'm hoping for a male. My Growlithe will be Virgil and my Houndour will be Dante, as in the poets. =3
My Charmander is named Ifrit after a kind of fire demon, Ponyta is named Argo, after the ship in Jason and the Argonauts, Cyndaquil is named Ra after the Egyption sun god, Vulpix is named Tristan after an effeminate RP character my friend plays. X3 His name and species is funny only to us! -------------------- |

I have the habit of naming my Pokémon after angels. I have some exceptions, but most of them have names like Uriel, Israfel, Tabris and so on

My Zangoose was named "Kuro-Tenshi", which means "Black-Angel", Pikachu was named "Oni" ("Demon"), becouse I wanna see my Raichu with this name, then Pikachu evolves. To Shinx i'll give the name "Akuma", 'cuz I like that Pokemon...

My nicknames are usually spur of the moment, but a few select ones have special meanings to them.
Hinawa, my Cubone, is named of Hinawa of MOTHER 3, a fellow mother who dies for her kids. -------------------- |

A few of mine (Serph and Hugo so far) are named after fictional characters, but, more often, I'll give the pokemon nicknames that are just words that I feel suit them-- Fray, Totem, and Ribbon so far. In the actual games, I'm a lot more nitpicky about naming all of my pokemon, but here it's so easy to do that I don't really worry about it.

I only give shiny pokemon nicknames, usually a reference to their new color.
My only shiny in this site is an Exeggutor. I named it Coco de Oro. Supposed to mean something like golden coconut, but I haven't taken Spanish in years. -------------------- |

Most of my names either come from their name, Or something related to main parts of the Pokemon.
My Swinub (and eventual Mamoswine) is named Puum, after Pumbaa. My Volbeat, Genji after the B-Fighter Genji from B-Fighter Kabuto (Fan Nostalgia here). My Remoraid and eventual Octillery is named Nadya, after Nadya Suleman, the "Octomom". And my Lickilicky is named "Toots" after the old Tootsie Pops commercials XD -------------------- |

The only Pokémon I'l nickname are those who I have in my party on my Platinum game.
So if I raised a Chatot it would be called Macao, Umbreon would be called Knave, etc. -------------------- |

I'm not much good at names. Sometimes I name them after characters from other things I like (Mumble the Empoleon in my Pearl game, for instance.)
I'm pretty proud of Mr. Yuk the Grimer though. -------------------- |

I love giving nicknames to my Pokémon. Sometimes I name them after RP characters of mine, sometimes I name them after famous figures, sometimes I just name them after something I see around me. So I end up with an odd mix of names, like Miho, Casanova, and Jelly Bean.

I'm still looking for a ditto to name "The Blob".
as for other names, it's not a difficulty of thinking up names for them (although most of the time I prefer their original names), it's a difficulty of thinking up names that are appropriate. Some i've thought up are questionable. for example, I don't have this pokemon yet, but I'm considering naming a female Bidoof "hairy beaver". Odd i know, but perhaps little kids won't know what I'm talking about. besides, Wymsy has worse named pokemon than that, and she hasn't banned herself. Take a look at the name of her cloyster (it's in box 5), if that is allowed then "hairy beaver" should be fine. |

xD My pokemon are named after whatever I'm obsessed with at the time. Right now, for example, they're all sporting random Buffy the Vampire Slayer names.

I like nicknaming pokemon, I gave up in the games because I started going WAY to far to select a name each time. But I probably will on here.
I pick ones that have a meaning to the pokemon or what it's based on, like a Porygon called Duncan (like the word 'dunk', what the water birdything it's designed after does) or Sable for a Murkrow, a creepy for that means black. My eeveelutions are all named after gemstones. I'm gonna have to come up with something for my soon-to-hatch Omanyte and Dunsparce. :0 *thinkthink!* -------------------- |
