My nickname strategy is pretty random. They either have something to do with the pokemon itself (like Inky the seadra), are named after anime characters (Matt the feraligatr and Mello the charizard), are derived from part of an animal name (Clasmodo the bulbasaur named after the dinosaur clasomodosaurus), or are named after my own animals (Kiwi the sceptile named after my pet leapord gecko, Kiwi)... really not much rhyme or reason to any of it XD

I name mine after anime/manga/game/book/TV/movie characters depending on which pokemon I think represents the character.

I'm trying to name the three original starters the nicknames from the first pokemon movie. Like the Blastoise was Shellshocker, etc. [Can't remember the other ones right now... ] Other than that, just really, really random names.

Scurvy is the name of my Monferno. It's to match my Infernape in Platinum, who was named as such due to my team being pirate themed.

Falcon Paunch is named that because of the Focus Punch strategy Breloom uses.

Turnip the Oddish- Pretty unoriginal. It's...just named after a turnip.

Andante the Slowpoke- Andante means walking pace in musical terms, I guess a more fitting nickname would be Largo, but that sounds kinda ugly.

Maddy the Smoochum- I just like the name.

Farco the Eevee- Sounds a bit like Fuego....if you tilt your head to a side and say it fast.

Sidoh the Kabuto- Sidoh is a character from Death Note. He resembles a shellfish kinda thing. I don't know, my Kabuto just reminded me of him.

Manuka the Teddiursa- Manuka is a type of honey in New Zealand. The bees collect pollen from Manuka flowers, and it is absolutely delicious :>

XD In the actual pokemon games I named my base team after FF attacks (Ultima, Meteor, etcetc), but I'm find I'm running thin of names in this site, so my best bet is a latin dictionary LOL. I just search up a name in Latin and if I like the sound, I'll use it. Same with Italian/French/Japanese etcetc. I wonder if it sounds lame in their language S:

I give Pokemon wierd nicknames XD Only my top 5 though.
Since i'm bad at coming up with them, and want something original, I mix their japanese and english names (of the form im trying to get, of course :P like crobat for zubat etc. but sometimes I use parts of the other pokemon in the evo lines names to make it sound better)
examples:
Crobat+Kurobatto=Crurobatto
Golduck+Koduck(psyduck, golduck is golduck in japan XD)=Kogoduk
Ratatta+koratta(raticate+ratta wouldnt be as good :P)=Korattat
Duskull(dusclops doesnt fit)+Samayorou=Duskyorou
Rhydon+Sidon=Rhisidon
So yeah, while not the best of nicknames, I think they sound kinda cool =D

For now I have named only one pokemon on GPX. In games I always naming pokes though. I'm trying to give somewhat funny name, involved with character or feature of pokemon, or try to make word games with combat quotes. Or simply naming them with names I feel they ought to be named. Like naming here Ralts - Radia. I feel somewhat enigmatic about this pokemon, so I named her after enigmatic game - Chronicle of the Radia War. Very great and very not-well-knowed game for NES, beating FF-s from these times in my opinion, btw. (Like, game for NES/Famicom have simiral graphics/music like FF 4, game for SNES? No comment. I liked FF 4 though.)

Most of mine are based of whatever music I'm listening to at the time. Like Timberlake, my Cubone, was hatched when I was listening to Justin Timberlake, and thus, his name.

Oh oh, I got a few.

I actually hatched/evolved an Ampharos, Typhlosion, and Persian to represent me and my two closest friends.
Ampharos - Me: Ashi
Typhlosion - Dre, my boyfriend.
Persian - My best friend Bikuu!

Others I have a charmeleon I mean to evolve into a Charizard named Pride from my old pokemon games. Same with Vibrava, I use to have a flygon named DJ who I loved.

I soon hope to get my two favorite characters. A female Luxray named Zex and a male Golduck named Lok soon too!

Mine can either have to do with the Pokemon [Starstruck the Starly] or be random, or somewhere in between. I named Lotad Monet because it reminded me of the lilies he painted xD Houndour is Angel because he looks like a Hell Hound and I find that ironic, and I love irony that way. Rhyhorn is Rhyka because of the Rhy, and because I knew someone who called themselves that on an RP forum a while back. Mightyena is Graaawl because it is cute O: Corsala is Coraline, for the Cor, again. Barboach is Broach for yet another similar name. Masquerain is Itsy because he looked kinda spider-like as a cute little Surskit. Ninetails is Inari for the Japanese rice-god with kitsunes. Ponyta is Pheo because of the fire; a silly shortening of Pheonix, even if it's a horse >>; And Trapnich is Venus like the flytrap.

I have more than one way of naming my Pokemon.

1.) They're wordplays based on the Pokemon. For example, I have on more than one occasion named a female Zubat Batrice (Beatrice is a common woman's name).

2.) They're what I aspire them to be. Ultimate, my Dragonite, is an example of this.

3.) Video game characters that I like are common names for my Pokemon. Vegnagun the Dusklops is a good example. I usually pick ones that fit the Pokemon's species.

I don't really give many nicknames unless I like the pokemon. My Munchlax is named Halveton, wordplay for "Half a Ton". There's a female Munchlax named Snoozwinks.
