TIL = Today I Learned

TIL how to censor on my editor. Took a long time, and I now have lots of respect for people who blur out faces, or body parts, of people on tv and stuff. It felt like it took forever. ._.

I'm so proud to have learned it though that I felt like bragging. lol

So what have you learned today? ;)

Posted by: Honedge Feb 10 2014, 03:06 PM

Today I learned there really is no element of surprise.

Thanks. :)
Also thanks to Mr. L for the profile comment. :)

Today I... noticed how great WaitingforthePUNchline's username is. I like puns. A lot. I wish I had the skill to make them more often. You have the power to either amuse people greatly or make a lot of people face palm.

TIL any relative can become a complete stranger if you don't bother to keep in contact.

Posted by: Aberrant Mercutio Jun 9 2014, 10:49 PM

Today I learned that "Didi" (pronounced "deedee") is Hindi for "elder sister," and that people in India usually use titles (such as "Didi") for relatives instead of their relatives' actual names! (Well, we do that to some degree in the U.S.A., but only really with parents and grandparents.) My dad had friends over for dinner, a couple and their son, and the woman told her son to refer to me as 'Didi'. cat.gif

Everything that could go wrong, did, and worse part was, even though I was in the shop earlier in the day asking about my order, I got an e-mail when I got home to say that it was now ready for pick-up. *Sigh* Oh well, at least thanks to their incompetence I got it ahead of the day when it was officially released, hehe.

Today I learned that people still fall into the console wars trap, even though gaming tech has just about completely plateaued out. People are fighting over the framerate and polygon count in the PS3 vs. PS4 versions of LittleBigPlanet 3, despite them looking freaking identical. (PS4 has some more minute detailing on the textures, but that's it.) They say that the PS4 version would look better if it was the only one the devs devoted their time to. False. They would look the same regardless because there are no more improvements to be made to gaming graphics to entice people to buy. Games have to be sold on their gameplay merits from now on.

The fight is so stupid because the main advantage that the PS4 version has over the PS3 version wasn't even brought up (infinite level creation on PS4 over a 20 level slot limit on PS3).

The graphics nerds need to pack up and go home. There's no place for them anymore.

Posted by: Gambrinous Antiscian Jan 31 2015, 02:08 AM

Today, I learned that if I want my preferred bacon or lettuce, I actually have to go to the supermarket to buy those two things before my mother goes out to do her grocery shopping. She picks ice berg lettuce of all things, and middle rasher bacon rather than the long strips with a bit of fat on them. In the case of the former, I'd rather graze out in a paddock with a herd of cattle and eat what they don't touch (serrated tussock, for example), because that ice berg lettuce is worse than a fucking weed. Maybe if I were a rabbit and got high off the leaves I'd sing a different tune, but if I had my way, the ships that carried it here would be partying with the Titanic before they even reached our shores. In the case of the latter, there's no flavour whatsoever, because they come packed without the fat! Also regarding bacon, I learned that if I want it cooked right, I have to cook it myself. I like it crispy to the point where it shrinks and curls. <3

I'm glad I'm not a president, or greengrocers and farmers would probably protest and send me care packages full of ice berg lettuce if they read this.
