i was looking at my newly hatched pichu's stats (they are still really low) and i noticed something odd.

the word 'defense' is slightly tinted red, and Sp. Attack is slightly tinted blue. i checked my other pokemon to see if this happened, too.

on phanpy, defense is also red, but speed is blue. electrike's Sp. defense is red, speed blue. Swablu has sp. defense blue and attack red. Mudkip's defense=blue, sp. attack=red. my last pokemon is murkrow, level 36, but he doesn't have a colored stat name. a lot of my other boxed pokemon have colored stat names, too.

i began to speculate. maybe the red means that the stat will be the highest, and blue meant lowest stat. but what about pokemon without a blue or red stat? what about pokemon with no colored stats? this could be incorrect because if red meant high stat, then swablu would be lying. the attack stat is not generally high

maybe the colored stats indicate IVs, but i'm very new to that mumbo jumbo. maybe having no colored stats means terrible IVs, and maybe blue means low IVs and red means high IVs.

what i'm asking is has anyone else noticed this? if you have, then what do they mean? they've been bothering me all day, and i need a sure answer.

sorry for wall of text walloftext.gif

The red stats are the ones that the nature boosts. The blue stats are the ones the nature decreases. No colors means that they have a neutral nature. I loved this update! It made it easier for me since I didn't have to keep pulling up my chart every five seconds.

ok, so the nature i have for swablu will help him out? he learns mostly physical moves, so i guess the boost can help.

and i'm guessing that no colored stats means that the nature doesn't help or decrease any stat?

That's right. If your Swablu's Attack is red, lean towards physical moves. if his Sp. Attack is red, lean towards special moves. If neither are red, choose whatever.

i'm glad you answered, too. now i don't have to go look up a whole bunch of stuff if i ever plan on competitive battling. i can just catch a pokemon and see if it will benefit, even without looking at the nature. but poor pichu will suffer cause she doesn't have volt tackle and her sp. attack is lowered.
