So as you all may know, the newest expansion of the HS card series. HS: Undaunted will be released soon. But before that, Gnome Games (and maybe other tranding card outlets) will be holding a special prerelease eventduring a select few days in August.
Details: Entry to the event is 27 US dollars, which will net you 6 packs from the new series. Catch is, you will be using those very cards to compete in a limited tournament, called a Sealed Deck challenge. As quoted in my local hobby shop's site: "Players will receive 6 Booster Packs and then construct a 40 card deck out of those packs. Basic Energy will be provided." Or if the Sealed Deck challenge doesn't sound very appealing, there is another event scheduled after the sealed Deck challenge's second round. In this other challenge, you will be given one of the new theme decks and compete in a theme deck challenge. As quoted in my local hobby shop's site: "Players receive a Random Theme Deck and will duel in a non-tournament open duel style, much like Pokemon leagues. Each duel that they win with that theme deck they will receive an additional booster, up to 4 boosters. Basic Energy will be provided." I am going to be attending just for the packs and promo card, but if I manage to win a round or two, hey, thats fine too. Has anyone else heard of this? And if so do you plan on attending? I'm planning on going to one! I've heard they have a lot stronger cards, which is just the thing I need for my deck. (My deck is outdated no new cards in it. )

Yea, and with 6 packs, plus a possible 4 more, and a deck to boot. There will ample new and powerful cards to use. all for a low price to add to that!

I'm definitely planning on attending one. Prereleases are my favorite kind of tournament, since your cards are provided for you, everyone's on an even playing field. I've been going to prereleases ever since ex: Team Aqua vs. Team Magma, so I definitely have experience with this format.
Master Element, I've never heard of a prerelease being run like that. Is that something your local store does? I'm familiar with two formats, the Theme Deck Challenge (the second half you described) or the Sealed Deck event (the six pack format). Both cost the same (at least $25), and are run at the same time, so you have to pick which event you want to participate in (in other words, if you go with the Theme Deck Challenge, you can't participate in the Sealed deck event, and vise versa). The prizes are the same for everyone, regardless of final standings, two more packs for Sealed, and four packs for Theme Decks, and the prerelease promo and sleeves for everyone, regardless of format played. -------------------- |

Are you kidding? You can only choose one challenge?
Well that certainly put a damper on my joy, but if that's the case, I'll probably be doing the sealed deck challenge, since the theme Deck's only have 1 good card in them at best anyway xD I'll also edit my first post to clarify.
