Questions like this make me want to cry...
You have to like the game from the start to like it at all. It's not something you grow into. EDIT: plus I'm a collector freak! So that helps too! This post has been edited by Grovyle: Apr 21 2009, 08:48 AM -------------------- |

At the end of the day, the TCG is completly different from the video games. People don't play the TCG becuase they'd like to play the main games but can't afford to or whatever, they play it becuase they like it. Just becuase you personally don't like something doesn't mean its pointless. It may be to you, but not to other people

It's fun I love the strategy part of the game - both while playing and the meta game stuff. I have yet to build my own deck from scratch but I have been learning by playing different starter and theme decks and we got a couple of the world champion decks and they really made me want to try and build my own. The meta game thing of figuring out what other people will have and trying to biuld a deck that will trounce them fascinates me.

I think they're really suppose to be collectibles and stuff, but I don't think it's worth to buy them.

When I used to collect those cards, it wasn't the game in itself (no one knew the game, so we just followed the rules of "Yu-Gi-Oh") but it was fun to collect.
I don't really like them anymore, but people seem to enjoy them. It could be the art, or maybe it's the thrill of what's going to be inside when you open the package. This post has been edited by johnrichard1991: May 19 2009, 02:35 PM -------------------- |

the thing that makes em so popular is:
A: they are pokemon, little kids want them. B: for adults players, it awakens our inner collectionist C: or we just wanna be the very best, that no one ever was the thrill of i'm lucky tonight, even after opening 10 packages full of magikarp, and there's no gyarados on that set. E: it's way different than the pokemon videogames. F: there's no stealth rock or spikes, well, except for some dugtrios and whatnot. -------------------- |

People have all sorts of different reasons. Maybe you're just obsessed with Pokemon, like me.
Also, by going to Pokemon Leagues with your cards, you can make new friends and expand your horizons. Also, you get free stuff hehe... -------------------- |

Even though I haven't bought any in years (not that I'm too embarrassed to go to a store and buy a pack of Pokemon cards or anything >.>) A lot of people (like me) just collect them to have. Also, there are way more variants of a single Pokemon in the cards than in the game, plus people enjoy the strategy involved with good old fashioned card games~
But yeah, I'm a collectomaniac~ I collect collections XD -------------------- |

lots of factors...
1) the game its pretty nice! 2) Making a strategy with the things you have and feeling proud with the result 3) =D the thrill of the rares in the booster (or that level X we all want) 4) knowing people, playing with em 5) the art in some of the cards =D. that's why i have a folder of cards..TTwTT one day im going to have that drawing skills. -------------------- |

The reasons everyone else has noted.
I don't collect them anymore since I got bored+its no fun when no one else in your area collects it are 10 years younger than you. But when I did I loved trading them at school. If you're gonna start saying TCG is pointless, then what is this? for: A video game based on a card game based on a video game. Nice. It really just depends on your perception of fun. Some people love Pokemon cards, whether it be battling or collecting. These people will willingly spend more money, since it's their passion. It's a hobby that just happens to cost a lot of cash.
