I usually like making Pokemon special, so I give them nicknames.
I'm playing FireRed at the moment and every member of my party has a nickname. Teo the Umbreon. [totally random name] Michaela the Vileplume. [a character from one of my favorite books] Aesha the Raichu. [RANDOM xD I thought 'bout naming her Ash, but she is a female after all] Illium the Dragonite [again a character] Ryo the Charizard. [well, yeah, I'm a digimon fan alsooo. And Ryo Akiyama is one of my favorite characters xDD] Drew the Kabutops. [shortned for ANdrew?] So, what do you think??? -------------------- |

Always.
Don't know why. I choose names that reflect the pokemon obtained. 'Cept for Temperance the Rhyperior. Named her after the fictional character Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan. -------------------- |

I love giving them nicknames, both here and in the games. It makes me feel like they're my trusted friends instead of tools. I normally only nickname my favorites, but I've been naming almost all of them here on GPX.

I only give nicknames to my favorites and "special" ones. I try to pick unique names to go along with the "character" nothing lame like human names...I still don't understand why people do this..it's a mystery.

I normally only nickname my favorites, but I've been naming almost all of them here on GPX. I know what you mean. Hey why won't you release that Oddish? You can find a dozen more in the grass on higher level. Yeah but they won't be special and mine! Becuase that Oddish has a name. xDD And I like raising Pokemon. I really isn't interesting to catch one on level fifty and then brag about it. Rather catch one on level 11 and raise to level 50 and then brag @Frenzy Chic: That's cool. I like the series, too. -------------------- |

I usually nickname my Pokemon. Mostly named for what type of Pokemon they are or something like that, sometimes for something humorous.
In SS, my Typhlosion is named Blazer, my Jolteon is named Evan, my Lugia is named Wavecrashr (I couldn't fit the 'e') and most of my other Pokemon have names too. In Firered, I have a box full of Pokemon with names related to France. XD (RANDOM!) Most of them are Paras. (Get it?) I also have a Jolteon named Jolta (I luv mah Jolteons) and my Charizard is named Charman. (Later I realized that his name sounds like a brand of Toilet Paper.) My traditional name for Swellows and Taillows in RSE is LLOWSY. XD I could go ON and ON. -------------------- Signature? I need a SIGNATURE? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!

I do it a lot on Mystery Dungeon. I put the first thing that comes to mind (Grimer - BP Oil; Weedle - Poisonhorn (because of it's in-game dialogue); Absol - Axel [8D]). But for some Pokes, like Shuppet, Duskull, and Hypno, I don't nickname them since I can't think of anything good.
As for the main games, not really, although most of them are GPX+ related. -------------------- |

I name all the time...I've been known to sit there for 5 minutes or more trying to think of a good name. With the volume off. It helps me concentrate.
Prepare for a looonnngg list. If there's more than one on the same line, I gave them group names. I might not have all of them still, but their names will always be remembered. Rainflip the empoleon Cross the koffing Patch the swalot Wildflower the roserade Spike the steelix Moonrise the houndoom Nova the staraptor Indigo the espeon Steam the luxray Horoscope the giratina, Zodiac the dialga, Starsign the palkia Aurora the purugly Blackstar the mightyena Rex and Raptor the groudons Arrow the swellow Techno the manectric Blazefang the entei, Joltclaw the raikou, Hydrofur the suicune Sunlight the espeon, Moonlight the umbreon Sunspot the ninetales Magic the xatu Whitewater the vaporeon Voltage the jolteon Crumble the dugtrio Typhoon the lugia Redtail the ninetales Alpha the mightyena Razor the sceptile Coalbeak the blaziken Stormy the blastoise Inferno the charizard Racket the primeape Airfang the garchomp Whitecap the breloom Willow the sceptile Grayclaw the persian Quartz the marowak Opal the dragonite Electra the ampharos Bolting the raichu Zero the haunter Raider the scyther Raiden the ninjask Needle the beedrill Scorch the camerupt Demon the arbok Riptide the sharpedo Hotfur the typhlosion Winks the hypno Metallic the skarmory Blister the ariados Littleleaf the sunflora Meadow the leafeon Snowstep the glaceon Nightwing the crobat Wildflame the infernape Loyal the arcanine Lazybones the snorlax Spunk the nidoking Polar the mamoswine Buzz the beedrill Ring the arbok Rainfin the swampert Vineberry the sceptile Blackthorn the roserade Cirrus the pidgeot Torrent the fearow Dash the graveler Sizzle the slowbro Echo the crobat Seatide the poliwrath Nimbus the gyarados ...I think that's enough. -------------------- Refresh to see another one of my favorites! I adore nicknaming my Pokemon. However, it tends to only be the one that I hold on a Team, with several others here and there.
And example would definitely be my Pearl and Soul Silver Teams: Colette - My Clefable. Though Lopunny would be a nicer choice because of where I got the name, still~ Tiny - Torterra. Oxymoron for the win. Red - Both of my Espeons in both of my games are called this. Don't mind me and my obsession. Cooly - Feraligatr. Nostalgia sakes. Lucia - Bellossom. Named after a very good friend of mine on another Forum. Conan - Houndoom. Named after an anime character (Conan from Detective Conan) Inspector - Honchkrow. Also named after an anime character in a way, but he just looks like one, ne? Ruby - Shiny Milotic. I just had to. Jin - Luxray; named after a Manga character. Aero - Aerodactyl. Okay, I was "lame" with this one. Denryuu - Ampharos. Also kind of lame, because of the fact that Demryuu is Ampharos' Japanese name. Okay, I'll stop now. -------------------- |

The only times I nickname Pokemon would be the times I'm trying to follow Nuzlocke rules. When I do nicknames, I try to keep them thematic where possible. (Exception being when I catch a Slowpoke while nicknaming, which always gets named 'James May')

I always name them based on their final evolution form, for example my Typhlosion is named Tyco, and my Persian is named Percy.

I nickname all of them. I don't have a particular theme with nicknames, though. I just give them nicknames I think fit.

I always nickname my Pokemon, on GPX and ingame. Sometimes I name them after movie or book characters that I love, but other times they are named after characters I've created for my stories, RPs and such. Take my Charizard Clone, Vasarkath, for example; he's named for the dragon king in and RP of mine. Knoxus and Victus, my Palkia and Dialga are also named after characters of mine. Knoxus is the keeper of the different realms and Victus is keeper of Time.
