Moved to Entertainment.

I love Doctor Who. I often ramble on and on about it even though no one knows what the fez I'm talking about.

Posted by: Wastelander Dec 7 2013, 09:09 AM

Mmm, I do like some timey wimey stuffs now and again. I'm excited for when Capaldi will take over. I've grown to appreciate Matt's acting, but some of his stories, especially those involving the Ponds were dog barf to me.

Posted by: Rylvan Dec 19 2013, 05:02 PM

Anyone think Capaldi's Doctor will become the Valeyard at some point?

Posted by: Wastelander Dec 25 2013, 07:43 PM

Well if his entrance in the Xmas special is anything to go by...maybe. Dude was prowlin' and growlin' for what felt like a life-time only to have the Docy's renowned eccentricity return seconds later. Cheers to happy days ahead. But ugh. August? Really? A life-time away....sad.gif

Thoughts on the 2013 X-Mas special in general, guys, and what of Matt Smith's send-off too? Adequate? Fantastic? Neither?

I thought it served its purpose, and liked the way it wrapped up lots of ongoing plot points. Paled in comparison to the Day Of The Doctor though.

And I was sorta disappointed when the secret that laid behind door 11 from "The God Complex" episode was shown too. But I guess it unfortunately made sense that this was his fear.

Never get bored with the show and am always talking about it.

Posted by: flamefiends Jun 16 2014, 11:10 PM

I still need to finish it. I stopped after Matt's Hitler episode so I could go back and watch the older series.

Posted by: Aberrant Mercutio Jun 16 2014, 11:44 PM

//heavy breathing//

I love the show. But... I feel like the 11th Doctor's reign was just... disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I think he's an awesome Doctor, and I'm no Matt Smith basher, but the storylines and plots were just lame. A few good ones, but the overall plots (like, the season ones) were not impressive and a little confusing sometimes. And I hate. Hate. Hate. River Song. I. Hate. Her. So. Much. They'd always be like "0 n0ez big aleeun we n33d r1vr s0ng" and then they'd break her out of jail only for her to STAND AROUND AND DO NOTHING FOR BASICALLY THE ENTIRE EPISODE. And she's really arrogant all the time, like, no, go away, we don't actually need you in this episode or season at all. She does not advance anything. She does not improve anything. She is literally useless.

Probably the first time I've used a spoiler for an actual spoiler (click to show)

Oh, and I really don't like the title sequence thing with Amy all, "When I was a little girl, I had an imaginary friend..." I feel it makes her seem like the main or most important character. I mean, she's important, but she's no more important than any of the other travelling companions. It makes it seem like the Doctor is HER imaginary friend, and thus implies he is tied to her and her alone. Like, no, he's been around for 900-some years already, you are not the only person he has traveled with, and you are not the most important. Also, Rose Tyler.

Posted by: flamefiends Jun 16 2014, 11:51 PM

Rooooooossssssseeeeee~ I shop her with 10 SO HARD ~soon~

Posted by: Aberrant Mercutio Jun 16 2014, 11:57 PM

Yes. Rose and 10. Definitely best ship.

I really liked Martha too, and although I don't ship them, I feel bad for her. Really bad timing in general.

I was showing my mom Doctor Who (so far we've seen season 2 and are halfway through season 3), and even though she's not usually into this kind of stuff, we were both crying at... the end of season 2... you know. crying.gif

Posted by: flamefiends Jun 17 2014, 11:25 AM

Don't bring that up; you'll make me cry. Of course, I'm already tearing up so there's no point in saying that now. The only other time I cried like that was at the end of season 4.

Posted by: Aberrant Mercutio Jun 17 2014, 02:15 PM

Bring on the tearfest crying.gif

Posted by: Wastelander Jun 17 2014, 02:36 PM

I'm partial to the Eighth Doctor myself. There's something about McGann + that heavenly voice of his (listen to the Big Finish audios <3) that is simply golden. I loved his comics stories too.

Posted by: flamefiends Jun 17 2014, 11:32 PM

Oh, the "War Doctor." I heard he doesn't get a lot of screen time. I wanted to watch Day of the Doctor but I'm not fat enough I Matt 's timeline to watch it yet.

Posted by: Wastelander Jun 18 2014, 03:47 AM

Yup. The War Doctor is exclusive to The Day special. Though I hear he's to appear in a new novel that's getting released soon...or else it's out already, I'm not sure.

Posted by: flamefiends Jun 18 2014, 08:26 AM

I'll as that to my list of books I need to get. Now, I forget, is it the 4th Doctor that has the scarf?

*rolls eyes* He's not just a time traveler! He's a madman with a blue box!

Posted by: The Majestic Mr L Jun 18 2014, 09:11 AM

I know. But the name does fit.

Posted by: flamefiends Jun 18 2014, 09:21 AM

I understand. But Celebi is nothing compared to the Doctor.

On a side note, did you know AVByte made a Doctor Who the Musical?

celebi.gif celebi.gif celebi.gif celebi.gif celebi.gif HATERS GONNA HATE celebi.gif celebi.gif celebi.gif celebi.gif celebi.gif

The Doctor himself cannot travel through time. Without the TARDIS, the Doctor wouldn't be able to time travel at all. He'd only be able to regenerate, detox, and use telepathy (and whatever other powers the Doctor may have). However, Celebi counters all three of these. The first two because Celebi is a Pokemon and Pokemon (Lavender Town aside) don't die, and the latter because Celebi is a psychic type, and psychic types can usually use telepathy. Sure, the Doctor protects humans, but Celebi is the voice of the forest. The Doctor prefers things to be eco-friendly, it seems, but he doesn't have anything on Celebi when it comes to protecting nature the way s/he does. Same with Celebi; s/he likes people, but protecting them isn't Celebi's first and foremost duty.

So, their powers are of similar magnitude, except Celebi himself/herself can actually travel through time. If anything, the Doctor has less on Celebi than Celebi does on the Doctor.

(Awesome debate going on here)

You have a point. In theory, Celebi has more on the Doctor. It's probably just my attatchment to the Doctor that makes Celebi seem inferior. ...Actually, Celebi seems a little overpowered, personally. Well, it's a legendary so...

I never really thought of Celebi as overpowered before, but I have considered that the Doctor can be (a little) at times. Which is odd, since Celebi has more power. :/ Maybe it's because Celebi has a 'cute' appearance, or because (as you said) Celebi is a legendary, and not even one of the more powerful legendaries. Also, the environment. Celebi is in two movies, sure, but never portrayed as the most powerful, and even portrayed as somewhat weak and hunted in Pokemon 4Ever. The Doctor is (nearly) ALWAYS the smartest person in the room, and (nearly) ALWAYS has a solution for just about everything, even if it takes a bit to think of. People do die. The Doctor does frequently fail to save everybody. Yet the show almost ignores these sacrifices and plays it out as a victory (until these deaths come back to haunt the Doctor).

So basically, in the Pokemon world, the Doctor would be incredibly overpowered in terms of power... but in terms of intelligence?

Well, we already know how the people in Pokemon are...

Have any of you heard Doctor Who jokes? There's one floating around Tumblr that I really liked.

I can tell that's an adorable video. Unfortunately, I can't watch it yet. In the wise words of River Song: "spoilers"

Posted by: Wastelander Jun 21 2014, 05:30 AM

"Daddy Dalek!"

Too cute! I'm gone, completely gone!

Oho, have either of you kept tabs on the Youtube channel KatrinDepp? She did a load of DW tributes a while back. My favourite vid is this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFlsrZ9THu8.

David Tennant & Catherine Tate make a good duo. I'd always rewatch that Red Nose day special they once did.

Woah, that's crazy!

I don't think I'm going to look at them...

Well, if I find myself on a copy, maybe just ooone peek...

Oh, and check this out! If the Doctors were American... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCv5o7n_mtk&feature=youtu.be

The only one I can't totally see is Tony Shalhoub, and that's probably only because I practically grew up watching Monk. As anybody who's seen Monk and DW can confirm, it's hard to picture a character like that in a setting like this..

Even though the actor and the character are different, blah blah blah, I know... It's just, after years of watching a show with the same main character...

Yup, seems my rules are proved right once more;

Rule 1) The Doctor Lies
Rule 2) The Moffat Trolls
Rule 3) The BBC Leaks

I can guarantee that Gallifrey Base is a no-go zone if you don't want spoilers.

I've seen one or two spoilers and I just....feels....

Warning Because I'm about to share spoilers for the episode "Listen (click to show)

I've seen that video and I don't agree with the Nic Cage casting. I despise that actor. Though the one they cast for the 3rd is utterly sublime!
