I once saw a theory that a cubone was a baby Kangeskhan that lost its mother at a young age. It always made enough sense to me.

I think a long time ago a cubone's mother died,it got depressed because of its lose and to honor its mother it took its skull and put it on its head. And from then on all its desendents were born with skulls on thier heads.
Thats just my theory, any one else have a theory? -------------------- |

I could not help but chuckle at the picture. I doubt Pokemon will ever tell us what's under that mask. It would be a complete tangent of the story. If they reveal Cubone's mask, they would need to reveal what a Diglett would look like out of the ground or how Mantine have Remoraids... Well Mantine probably gets a remoraid naturally in the ocean. that IS what this animal here does. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remora Anyway what happens if theres TWO hatchlings? who gets the skull? |

Obviously, the Marowak dies the second the first one is born.

For those who say "What if there's two eggs?" They only lay one egg at a time, and they would die. By the time the egg hatches, the Marowak has rotted, and the Cubone grabs the skull. How this works with domestic Cubone I haven't a clue though.

..then how do you explain Marowak
SoulSilver Dex - It always wears the skull of its dead mother, so no one has any idea what its hidden face looks like. it's just a Cubone.. -------------------- |

I always thought that the "skull" is actually a horn-like growth that is inherited matroliniarly. I have no idea if I spelled that right, but it means that it is passed down from the mother. Thus, baby Cubones have the same horn shape as their mother, so it's not literally its mothers skull.
