Sure, it'd be very difficult to program, but I'd want to see a proper Pokemon contest in the games, like in the anime. And you could take either the path of the top trainer or top coordinator, and optionally take on the other when you've completed the main one.

Something new-

More exciting region/hometown,
A gym in your hometown,
Less legends/event pokemon,
Cross-generation trading,
(pre)evolutions for pokes (shuckle, quilfish),
