I've been on this site since 2012. And in that time, there has only been one UI overhaul. And it wasn't really that big of a difference, but it would be silly not to note that it has happened.

Now, we are in 2017, and technology has greatly improved. I remember being on this site with a disgusting 19 inch PHAT tube monitor, and it barely showed the dimensions of the site. Now we live in a time with inexpensive monitors and drastically upscale resolutions, and sadly this site now looks like complete shit.

That is my first, and largest suggestion. Do whatever it takes, no matter how long it takes, and make this site look good again. Perhaps then the traffic of this site will return to the 1000 users at any hour of the day like it did in the past.

Another big suggestion is to do what Pokemon Sun/Moon did, and update the pixel art for Pokemon. These haven't been updated either, and they look really obsolete now.

What it should look like with minimal effort:

>>>

Try and convince me that the newer, larger animated gif sprites wouldn't be MUCH better for this site.

Finally... this is more of a criticism than it is a suggestion... but I for one do not like the amount of fakemon on this site. I think it takes away from the fun of the game. I understand that I will be in the minority and that is why I won't suggest anything, but I think fakemon ruin the experience to a certain degree. And trust me, I do ignore them as much as I can. But unfortunately I still have to look at their ridiculous eggs and their ridiculous sprites when I'm browsing through the site, so no matter how much I dislike them and am told to "ignore them" or whatever else... it's just not possible.

Maybe I'm not the only one that hates them though. Who knows.

This site has fallen off big time, and I think it's because it fails to modernize itself. I still adore the core elements to this place, and that's why I'm still active from time to time even after taking long hiatuses. But you're kidding yourself if you think you shouldn't try to keep improving and attract as many newcomers as you possibly can.

Oh, I almost forgot. A fun and very easy suggestion... show in stats how long it's been since you hatched a shiny Pokemon. I personally would find this feature really cool, since I'm currently at around 1500-2000 eggs since something's shined for me.

Yeah, no.

We don't have the sort of staff it would take to "modernize" the site. I agree that it needs a lot of stuff fixed (and I'd do a lot of it myself if I could), but a total overhaul is not in the works. No one is paid to work on this site, and most of us have actual jobs/school/etc. We used to be able to devote a lot of time to it, but that isn't the case now. Don't forget that only 2-3 people can really do the actual development part of it.

As for the sprites, that's not happening. I personally like the sprite look; frankly, having animated gifs would be having way too much stuff going on and simply take up too much space (both on the screen and in file size). I'd hate to view the site on mobile with those. Plus, it wouldn't work with the novelties, which is another point you brought up. You may not like them, but they're an original part of the site and are here to stay. In any case, gifs would counteract all the hard work put into the sprites, 6th gen and onward as well as novelties.

Yes, the site needs more members and activity. It needs updates, but none of that is going to happen unless there are a lot of people working on it, and there aren't.

Lugia Hype

Alright this comes up way too often so Imma shoot it down for good.

Let's Compare File Sizes (click to show)

I'm assuming you haven't looked at the file size of a Pokémon gif, but take a look at the two files you posted. GIFs are by no means lightweight, that's 475 times larger than an existing sprite. These sprites need to live on the database, which both means that we'd have to expand server capacity and pages with several of these will take way longer to load. The Berry Feeder would absolutely suffer from this the most, and probably cause tons of issues with multiple users loading 300+ GIFs the size of 400+ sprites.

EDIT: I'm wrong on the server capacity-side of things, but the load time increase is absolutely an outcome.

As for expecting more from the Staff, I get the impression you missed out on the Future of GPX+ thread. I highly encourage you to read this, as it states that we all ran this site in the past when we had spare time and no jobs and that's no longer the case. We're developing content for the site when we have the time, but there will never be updates and additions as frequent as the days you're nostalgic for. GPX+ is non-profit, and we can't pay the bills at home off of free labour.

And finally, if you're going to rudely word a suggestion with phrases such as, "sadly this site now looks like complete shit", and demands of what others should do to specifically cater towards you I suggest you take a step back and question why you're even still here. It's pretty clear from your tone that you dislike the site, so take it upon yourself as a responsible adult to leave on your own terms.

Flaming and Trolling - 10-30%
Flaming is when a member posts something that is insulting and/or hostile to another member. Trolling is posting generally inflammatory, rude, off-topic or otherwise offensive messages in a thread in order to annoy other members. Neither of these are allowed on any part of the forum. Also do not encourage this kind of behaviour from other members - do not feed the troll. If you are debating a topic and have a point to get across, do so in a calm, mature manner.

Flaming and trolling are two of the most serious transgressions on the forums, and will be dealt with by staff members swiftly and harshly. You have been warned.

I'm issuing a warning for taking the hostile approach on this, and this warning will be applied to other members using the same hostile tone.

I'm locking this, and all future threads that suggest we use GIFs of 3D-rendered Pokémon will be redirected here. The rest of Staff may chime in, but this hostile approach to critique will not be tolerated.
