HM's arnt needed, in all cases its for an item (i cant think of any tms that require hms) or for convince. in all reality though, i suppose a bascion or whatever the pirhanha things are somewhat good post game cause they can use cut, dive, surf and waterfall (btw, dive is one location specific i believe)

You wont really need one for the most part, at less not for the first part of the game, only need Cut I think and only have to use it once.
But Pokemon good for HM use only would be: Tirtouga/Carracosta who can learn Surf, Strength, Waterfall and Dive. Rufflet/Braviary who can learn Cut, Fly, and Strength or Vullaby/Mandibuzz but they don't have Strength. Those would cover the 6 HM moves in the game. Others would be: Basculin who can use Cut, Surf, Dive, and Waterfall, as we as Panpour and Simipour Samurott can use all the HMs except for Fly EDIT: If you don't mind the hassle of it, you could just teach any of the Pokemon you always carry around with you who can learn it and just get rid of it after-words via move deleter. If you're going to replace an HM with a move it's best to replace it with a TM, since this time TMs have unlimited amount of times it can be used. I tend to spread out the HMs across my team, rather than having one HM slave. I've only taught a Patrat cut to get past a tree, but thats been the only time I've needed a HM so far. Quite liking it to be honest. Wasting moves on HMs never really appealed to me

Samurott and Floatzel learn all except Fly, as said above. As for more, there's Psyduck, Tropius, Pelipepper, and a blah more. Smeragle, Mew, and Arceus can learn all HM moves. But, it really depends on what HMs you need. For the Water HMs use Water types, Flying HMs use Flying types, and for every other HM, use Normal types. And if you really want to know, because of it's typing, the IDEAL HM Slave is...
