I don't know...so let's poorly look at them individually!
Squirtle - The most normal-looking out of the three original starters. It's known for being a defensive pokemon. Bulbasaur - The weird-looking one out of the three original starters. It's great for changing the condition of other pokemon, like sleep or poison. My personal favorite of the three. Charmander - I feel like this pokemon is highly overrated. I suppose you can call it an offensive pokemon. Cyndaquil - It has great special attack, but doesn't have a huge movepool. It's cute, but I would call it the weird one. Totodile - The overrated one out of the Gen2 starters. My personal favorite. It's quite offensive. Chikorita - I never really liked Chikorita too much for some reason, appearance-wise. It has a big movepool, but it's weak! Mudkip - Easily the overrated pokemon out of the Gen3 starters. I love it because Swampert is immune to electric types. It's pretty average, but it has good attack. Torchic - There's nothing wrong with it appearance-wise. It has low speed and defense, and it has a lot of weaknesses. Treecko - Another grass starter that I don't like too much appearance-wise. It's awesome as a pokemon because it has great speed and special attack. Piplup - I gotta say, I love the type combination of Empoleon. It has 11 resistances (two are 4x) and 1 immunity. It is also unaffected by Sandstorm, immune to Toxic and resists Stealth Rock. Its Special Defence and HP are both very good. Excellent as a defensive pokemon. Chimchar - Appearance-wise, I hate Chimchar but I love Infernape. It's great as an offensive pokemon. Turtwig - Quite average appearance-wise. It's mixed as a pokemon, with great advantages and disadvantages. It's great if you pair it up against the correct pokemon. Now that I killed some boredom (god, I need a life), what conclusion did I end up with? I would say I like Chimchar because of Infernape, but I like Totodile for Totodile....so...let's go with Infernape! My least favorite is easily Chikorita. -------------------- |

Empoleon, Charizard or Swampert
And in 1st evolution: Treecko, Tsutaja, Charmander or Bulbasaur -------------------- (English isn't my first language and I also suffer from dyslexia. So sometimes my English might be out of this world...) ->Dragon Cave<- ~~ |

I love all the grass starters and Chimchar (cause flaming monkeys = win!) :D <3
Though Charmander and its evolution stages (especially Charizard) are pretty awesome too. :3 -------------------- |

Snivy (or for me, Smugleaf) is the best starter there is.
Ever since making its debut into the Pokémon world, it immediately became the center of attention. Also, it got a nickname that stuck for months on end until the release of B/W in Japan, which is Smugleaf. Tepig and Oshawott (which were known by the Japanese as Pokabu and Mijumaru, and in the rest of the world as Pignite and Wotter or Derpotter) also got their nicknames but were overshadowed by Smugleaf. -------------------- |
