Type: Ground/ Ice
Abilities:
Oblivious: Prevents Mamoswine from being Infatuated
Snow Cloak: Mamoswine's Evasion Rises in a Hailstorm

Stats: 110 HP/ 130 Atk/ 80 Def/ 70 SpA/ 60 SpD/ 80 Spd

Presumed Tier: Overused/ Borderline

Moveset 1: Choice Band
Mamoswine @ Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
Trait: Oblivious/ Snow Cloak
EVs: 152 HP/ 252 Atk/ 104 Spd
- Ice Shard/ Ice Fang
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Body Slam/ Peck

This moveset boosts Mamoswine's already impressive attack stat. Ice Shard is mainly used to take down faster Dragon types such as Garchomp and Salamence who will outspeed and force you to switch out. Ice Fang is if you are not as worried about Dragon types and want a secondary STAB attack with slightly more power. Earthquake is Mamoswine's most powerful attack and is extremely dangerous when used correctly. Stone Edge is just another attack with high base power that is used to deal more damage. It can be used to take down Gyarados. Sadly, Mamoswine doesn't have a very big offensive movepool, so the last slot is filler. Body Slam is used to paralyze the opponent which helps on a set where little speed EVs are used. Peck's only use is to 1HKO Heracross.

Moveset 2: Choice Scarf
Mamoswine @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Adamant
Trait: Oblivous/ Snow Cloak
EVs: 16 HP/ 252 Atk/ 240 Spd
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Stone Edge
- Sleep Talk/ Body Slam

Choice Scarf is used to boost Mamoswine's average speed to take down faster opponents. Earthquake is Mamoswine's main attack. Ice Fang is used instead of Ice Shard in this case because now you are faster than the foe's whom you would use Ice Shard on. Stone Edge is for power. Peck isn't used in the last slot because a Choice Band is needed to 1HKO. Sleep Talk can be used if you switch into a sleep inducing attack. Remember on Choice Sets that Sleep Talk can only be used once before it fails. Body Slam is filler.

Moveset 3: Restalk
Mamoswine @ Leftovers/ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
Trait: Oblivious/ Snow Cloak
EVs: 220 HP/ 176 Def/ 112 SpD
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard/ Ice Fang

Restalk is used when you need a Pokemon to take status and heal itself. Earthquake is a powerful STAB attack. Ice Fang is used when you would rather hit harder and Ice Fang is when you still want to take down the dragons. Leftovers are usually suggested on defensive sets for the extra HP recovery. But now you have a means of instant recovery, so Life Orb can be used to boost your attack. 220 HP EVs give you a HP stat of 416 for maximum leftovers recovery.

Moveset 4: An Attempt at Support
Mamoswine @ Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
Trait: Oblivious/ Snow Cloak
EVs: 220 HP/ 176 Def/ 112 SpD or 220 HP/ 176 Def/ 112 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Reflect/ Light Screen
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard/ Ice Fang/ Body Slam

Mamoswine doesn't really have the stats to support, but its high HP can come in handy. Mamoswine isn't the best Stealth Rock user, but it can work. Reflect and Light Screen can be used to aid your team defensively and help Mamoswine to stay around a bit longer. Earthquake is once again an obvious choice. Ice Shard and Ice Fang are two moves that gain STAB and are used to remain on the offensive. Body Slam still deals damage, but the 30% chance to cause paralysis is of great importance and can aid your team immensly.

Other Options:
Curse can work, but Mamoswine's defenses don't aid much in the setting up process.

Amnesia is ok, but Light Screen is preferable.

Double Hit can be used to break subs.

EVs:
EVs for Mamoswine are almost always focused in HP and Attack. 80 base speed is a mid-way point, and it is very difficult to find a certain speed that works.

Counters:
Skarmory and Bronzong both make great counters using their awesome defense and typing to shrug off any attack that Mamoswine can throw at them. Bronzong has the added benefit of hitting Mamoswine with Gyro Ball for super effective damage. Gyarados can throw around Stone Edges and take little damage from Mamoswine's other attacks. Weezing can hit Mamoswine with a crippling WoW or a Flamethrower/Fire Blast to finish it off. Other super defensive walls or well rounded Pokemon such as Cresselia and Mesprit also work relatively well.

Opinion:
Mamoswine is a great offensive Pokemon, but its speed isn't impressive and it's defensive stats, except for HP, are slightly below average. Opponent's need to be extremely wary when facing Choice Banded Earthquakes, because they WILL hurt. In the early DP Metagame, soon after the Japanese release, Mamoswine was used to wipe out any dragons that you encountered with great success. STAB Earthquakes off of 130 base Attack are going to hurt about anything except 4x resisters and levitators. It can also support the team with relative succcess.
