ABOUT THE FOUR:

This little section is for our members to read up on their ultimate challengers, the Elite Four.

Venusaur King: I am a planner. My Pokemon partner, Alakazam, and I selected and assembled these Pokemon to cover each other's weaknesses. To defeat me, you'll have to do the same.

Potential Pokemon:
Granbull
Galvantula
Dugtrio
Sawk
Darmanitan (normal)
Alakazam
Throh
Swampert
Talonflame
Whimsicott
Swanna
Excadrill
Dedenne

Teen Heat: I'm Teen Heat, and I'm looking forward to some great battles! I like to put a bunch of nifty gems and some other items on my Pokémon. But I guess that's not really as important as just having fun trying out new things!

Favorite:
Durant

Others:
Alakazam
Excadrill
Ferrothorn
Greninja
Haxorus
Mega Aerodactyl
Mienshao
Palkia
Pelipper
Plusle
Sigilyph
Stunfisk
Valentacruel
Weavile

OPEN:

Doom Hunter: Doom Hunter here! I've been battling since I hatched my first Abra, and never looked back. Personally, my team likes to revolve around finding a type advantage, buffing, and then singlehandedly sweeping teams. I do carry the occasional power striker, but I much prefer the slow buildup!

My potential Pokemon partners when you face me may be:
Battlesuit Dracowymsy
Haxorus x2
Bouffalant
Zergoose
Feral Zergoose
Electivire
Ferrothorn
Darmanitan (daruma)
Gigalith
Reuniclus
Umbreon
Mega Aerodactyl
Kingdra
Azumarill

Just between you and me....Corporal Wymsy is my favorite by far. happy.gif

*prods the group*

Well, the Battle Dojo is slowly getting new members. Congrats to us and to our new recruits!

So, with the group now having some life to it....we should do a little thing. I was thinking maybe a small round-robin tournament between the new members!

Thoughts?

Posted by: Teen Heat Apr 16 2015, 05:25 PM

That sounds like a great idea. I'd love to have a chance to build a new team from scratch and test it out with others.

Posted by: Venusaur King Apr 16 2015, 06:04 PM

I'm in. What exactly were you think, Doom Hunter?

Posted by: Doom Hunter Apr 16 2015, 06:10 PM

Here's what I'm thinking.

I'm thinking we have two round-robin pools: One with the new members, and one with the gym leaders/4. The 4 will moderate the members' matches, but I trust we have integrity for ours, right? Unless one or two members want to moderate ours.

Anyways, the winner of each pool then face each other in battle! The winner of the member pool will get a reward, and the winner of the whole tournament will also get a reward (unless I win, in which case I'll give half to the second place finisher). Thus, a leader/4 member may win the pool but get nothing, while a member might get double rewards!

And, I apologize, but the champion will not come out of hiding for this one, I already talked to him.

Posted by: Venusaur King Apr 22 2015, 06:24 PM

Hey everyone,
We're just waiting on the final Gym Leader to get his team together before you can start challenging the Gym Leaders. As soon as he's ready, I'll let you know!

Posted by: Zarincha May 1 2015, 08:08 PM

Figured I'd write a post in here. I wouldn't say I'm new to battleing, but I have fun with it. I kind of loose a lot, but at least I will get to meet some new friends while doing it. =3 If you'd like to challenge me, just send it via gpx. =3 I'll accept them all. I should be on for another hour or so~

Posted by: Zapdos May 3 2015, 03:54 AM

New member here grin.gif I wouldn't say I'm terrific at battles but I've at least done fairly well in the subway. Anyone feel free to challenge me anytime! We could exchange ideas and improve.

Also, the tournament idea sounds fun happy.gif

Posted by: Venusaur King May 4 2015, 05:30 AM

It took some time, but the Gym Leaders have their teams together and are ready to accept challengers!

Members who want to attempt the Gym Leader challenge need to PM a challenge to one of the Gym Leaders and arrange a time for the battle. The Gym Leaders are Koffi, Erty, Eternal Flame, and Dr Hawkins. If any of the Gym Leaders are offline or unresponsive for a day or two, PM me and I'll fill in.

Gym Leaders: When you receive a challenge, you need to set up a time and you need to post on the group page so we can watch the fight! If you know you're going to be unavailable for a bit, PM me or Doom Hunter so we can let everyone know.

Good luck and have fun!

Posted by: Venusaur King May 5 2015, 06:25 PM

So anyone challenge or get challenged yet?

Posted by: Eternal Flame May 5 2015, 09:44 PM

not yet. still waiting on it

Posted by: Teen Heat May 7 2015, 10:45 PM

Are members of the Elite Four allowed to face off against Gym Leaders?

We could still do that tournament or something. How about a Monotype tourney?

Members of the Elite Four can challenge Gym Leaders, but it would just be for fun. Members of the Elite Four can't earn badges.

I'm up for participating in a tournament if you or Doom Hunter (or anyone else) wanna put it together.

It appears both Erty and I are online, now we just have to figure out a time. X3

Posted by: Erty May 8 2015, 03:08 PM

after immediately swapping out his sawk, Erty's Darmanitan anaged to two-shot zapdos; Azumarill!

Mega garchomp was sent out and obliterated the darmanitan as a response with a single attack!

Erty sent out a haxorus. mega garchomp was swapped for weavile which immediately took 73% damage!

a second outrage ended weavile and mega garchomp was sent back in!

a devestating blow was dealt by both pokemon leaving mega garchomp with 3% health and haxorus with 9% health.

in the next turn however mega garchomp was knocked out by erty's haxorus.

A tanky ferrothorn entered the field on Zapdos' side. Haxorus was swapped for Sawk while ferrothorn increased its attack with a sword dance.

Zapdos also had a sawk and swapped ferrothorn for this sawk. sawk was 1-H-KO'D.

Zapdos also used a darmanitan just like Erty. this darmanitan failed to kill Erty's sawk and was knocked out in 2 turns.

Zapdos is now down to his last pokemon. Ferrothorn.

ferrothorn knocked out sawk, which erty swapped for a dugtrio.

Dugtrio killed ferrothorn.

Erty won the fight!

better luck next time zapdos!

(as i have to go there will be no rematch today, sorry)

Urgh, Iris and Alden just whopped me, mostly due to choosing the right Pokemon for the wrong attacker to face off with.

Posted by: Doom Hunter May 11 2015, 02:15 AM

I ended up finishing VERY unlucky on Alder when his final Pokemon ended up getting the crit that saved his butt, cuz otherwise it would have been one-shot. And then I got trolled by the 'dark' Karen (who then Gengar and Vileplumed my fairies and Sawk...)

Just realized I spelt his name wrong. xD

And yeah, Vileplume slayed my team as well, next time I'll have a TalonFlame ready though,

Posted by: Venusaur King May 11 2015, 07:33 PM

I'm glad to see there are new NPCs to battle!

I lost to Karen, Agatha Rematch and Sidney Rematch. Gengar wrecked my team against Karen, and I forgot to pack Hazers against the other two. At least it gives me something to look forward to on Thursday.

Posted by: Erty May 21 2015, 02:01 PM

Erty's darmanitan used sword dance!
Zapdos' Sawk swapped for Azumarill!

Erty's Darmanitan One-shot Azumarill, which was swapped for dugtrio.

Zapdos' Dugtrio one-shot erty's darmanitan which was swapped out for dugtrio!

Zapdos' dugtrio One shot Erty's Dugtrio!

Erty sent out Azumarill, which used iron defence while Zapdos swapped dugtrio for aegislash.

Both players continued to set up their tanks with iron defences and amnesias flying all over the place.

Erty's Azumarill however also set up a few sword dances.

Azumarill then proceeded to use aqua jet, which only lowered Aegislashes hp by 5% every time while taking so little damage, its leftovers outhealed it!

Aegislash was swapped for haxorus, which was killed by azumarill, which was still at full HP.

Zapdos sent out sawk, which was also killed with no damage taken.

Dugtrio was sent out, which was also killed with no damage taken

darmanitan was sent out, which was also killed with no damage taken

Aegislash was sent out, which was also killed with no damage taken

THE TANK WON THE FIGHT!

To be honest, Zapdos was ahead, but the sword dances on azumarill managed to puncture his aegislash tank, close one man! better luck next time!

Erty won the fight.

I have a busy life right now, but sometimes I have a bit free time.
When I'll get a little free about my shiny hunt, I will continue the breeding... I have some pkmn a bit weird, random and with a few ivs (and a modest rapidash with physical set xD but it has a lot of winnings btw)
I want to "use" this to improve a little bit to get the battle subway rewards...

OPEN AUDITIONS!!!!

Gym Leaders are allowed first crack at the E4 slot, but anyone is open to audition. If a Gym Leader gets promoted from within (think Koga!), we will also hold Gym Leader tryouts.

Koffi, Erty, Eternal Flame, Dr. Hawkins, you all get first stab at auditioning if you're interested. I will open it up to the group at a later time, alright?

So since I haven't really been in here (even though I was the second to join), how about we talk about what the minimum IVs we want on our mons are?

I go for 150 and above. I'm not paying attention to Natures (although I understand it's a big deal in the real games).

Posted by: GothMetal Jun 9 2015, 04:11 AM

I'm working most on nature than ivs, but I'm searching good ivs, and good ivs for me are above 100 xD (if they're in the right stats for each pkmn...)
I have a rapidash with less than 100 ivs, and I used a Rampardos and Hariyama with less than 100 too, and they were pretty awesome... now, I replaced hariyama (but searching a stronger one), replaced rampardos too, and for rapidash, I don't find que one to replace it (and it's timid, with physical set and 89 ivs, but it rlz yet...)

Posted by: Gryphaena Jun 9 2015, 11:33 AM

That's good, you already found some good mons for a team.

I really need to look at Sam's thread. I'm not sure what types of teams are the most common in the Battle Subway.

Posted by: GothMetal Jun 9 2015, 11:39 AM

You need to try a choice band mightyena, it's freaking awesome

My previous streak was 15, and it was so far ago xD now, My current streak it's 59 c: I tested some pkmns and they worked pretty well together

Posted by: Gryphaena Jun 9 2015, 11:50 AM

I hope you reach a streak of 75 soon!

I guess I just need to figure out my own mix of teams.

I've still got so many mons to level up.

And if you're confident, come and challenge one of our Gym Leaders!

Previously, I was using a team I don't use so much now, it's cosists on (the number is the total amount of ivs):
Shiny Ludicolo (dragon gem) 146, Jynx (dragon gem) 155, Hariyama (quick claw) 89, Stunfisk (poison gem) 137, Rapidash (grass gem) 103 & Mightyena (choice band) 115

And with them, I reached a 15 streak (criticals make very strongfull damage x_x.gif)

And now I use this for the 59:
Crobat (water gem) 164, Mightyena (choice band) 115, Haxorus (Choice scarf) 178, Conkeldurr (fire gem) 140, M-Alakazam (steel gem) 164 & Zebstrika (water gem) 164
Previously, I used for so long, Salamence, which I replaced with Haxorus, and Jolteon which I replaced with Zebstrika, because of the IVS and compairing both of them (and I have two Arcanines with more than 150 IVS to replace Rapidash, but they have less speed than rapidash, so I prefer rapidash yet)

The bad part of this second team it's they are 5 physical attackers, but they were pretty good. So finally ivs are very important (but hariyama and rapidash are pretty awesome now with 89 and 103 ivs, and no good nature for rapidash xD)

I'm searching for a decent Hariyama, because it has more HP than Conkeldurr, but i use both of them yet...

And finally, about the gym leaders, I want to be better prepared.

PS: I want more battle tower slots noes.gif (three of them are for youngster joey... I don't know if it's his name xD I called it in spanish... raticate, wormadam-steel and absol 161 ivs)

Going off the Pokemon and types you have, I'd swap Crobat's Water Gem for a Ground or Fighting Gem, replace Conkeldurr with Sawk or Throh if you want a bulky Fighting type, replace Mightyena with Flaming Zoroark so you have a Fire type, swap Mega Alakazam's Steel Gem with a Fighting Gem or Specs, and replace Zebstrika with Jolteon or Mega Manectric with an Ice Gem.

Crobat Gem it's ok, I will see what i have xD
I like conkeldurr (and I have it with good ivs yet, so it will be there while I get a better fighting type like hariyama, that i like more than blue-red kimono guys)
Mightyenna has 428 atk and a "strong" move, so, I don't replace it with a flaming only for getting fire type (If I want a fire type and dark attacker, I will use a rapidash with dark gem, it's faster and has its strong move)
I don't like Mega alakazam, and steel gem I don't know why is in it xD I guess I didn't have another one in the past... But maybe I use jynx again, with another gem than dragon one...
The zebstrika has ivs, so it replaced jolteon slot (and jolteon was replaced by another jolteon... I want another one, but zebstrika is pretty strong yet, so the same like conkeldurr) About mega manectric I need to check it

Edit:
Finally, crobat fighting gem, mega alakazam choice specs and zebstrika ice gem... I got the exp all xD (and the strek goes on...)

Edit2:
And my current longest streak is 130 c:

Ok, I've read battle expansion cames at 150, 225, 300... so it explains everything xD

And finally I beated Lucian (The 4gen psychic elite) his mr mime was tough with such speed... (crobat, rapidash and mightyenna worked) So I reached Cynthia, that was very easy o3o

I only have one comb left >x< (Drake#2 is always beating me xD)

Edit (Again): The streak ended at 232 noes.gif ALL were defeated by criticals (and one more attack and I win... noes.gif )

I have my own notes for elites, and they are pretty good xD I'm just thinking about drake#2, and the last time he defeated me by a critical attack, so I have a bit of hope...

about the streak, I don't mind the team that makes me lose if they were because of the criticals, I know I could beat them without the criticals, the last pkmn was an ice-cherrim with half life and I got my All Mighty Mightyena with almost full HP and more than 450 in attack base...

A random steelix made me get in troubles, but finally I defeated it, so now for steelix I'm using another strategy for not getting troubles...

Now that I have 9 slots more, I will focus on some fairy types (I want to try granbull and florges)

Edit:
I use a Florges for Drake#2 and it works xD (and stoping haxorus outrage with stunfisk c: ) So finally, the last comb is mine! grin.gif

LOL it makes me laugh "immediate rejection" xDDDD

And I want some fairies and only fairy type... If I wanted to use some dual type, I would use M-Mawile
Florges with sand gem it's pretty good (and iron defense)

Posted by: Doom Hunter Jun 29 2015, 05:04 AM

Check out Aromatisse, GothMetal. It's got a more well rounded defensive set than Florges, and a better offensive stat (SA) too. The thing to watch out for is that it's painfully slow....but its HP is MUCH better, so it may be worth investing some time into one.

I think part of the problem with the Fairies you mentioned is that none of them are going to outspeed most of the often used Subway Pokemon except maybe Florges. I think you might want to use Agility with whichever one you pick. Florges would be faster than nearly every Pokemon. Clefable would be a bit more defensively balanced and would match up nicely after an Agility. Granbull's speed would be somewhere in the 300 range after Agility, making it plenty fast and offering the biggest attack.

Posted by: GothMetal Jun 29 2015, 11:59 AM

I see... I will see their stats and so..
I have 3 good florges (two are leveling up) with a good nature the 3

And in the game I prefer resist than speed, because "speeders" has paper defenses and one hit by a splash magikarp and they're gone x_x.gif... but here it's different, I have to check them

Natures are indeed super important. They can make an average IV'd Pokemon great and a great IV'd Pokemon amazing.

This might sound weird coming from me, but Speed isn't everything, VK. I mean, tanks are just as important, like how Azumarill is slow yet is better than the majority of the speedy sweepers out there due to its vast defensive prowess. In this sense, I like Iron Defense and Nasty Plot on Florges, or Amnesia on Aromatisse. Since even WITH Agility, Aromatisse won't be outspeeding anything anytime soon....

I'm agree with that!
When you need to do a change, is better to have a tank (if you don't have a pkmn that counters the type)
And azumarill is not a problem when it appears at battle subway (jolteon cleans it! xD) but is a good choice, but it's too seen and typical, that I prefer to use some others xD and Bold Florges has pretty good defenses too c: and a "Strong" move! (that's why I want a one-type fairy)

Posted by: Venusaur King Jun 30 2015, 03:38 PM

My point about speed goes along with using a Gem. If you aren't fast enough to either boost yourself first or attack first against a Pokemon presumably with type advantage against you, there's not much of a point in having the Gem.

I get on the swap that Florges could use Iron Defense and turn its bad defense into a good one, but it's still gonna eat a super effective move before it can attack. And its attack isn't strong enough to OHKO a Pokemon with its Gem attack.

If you use Agility on the swap, you'll more than likely put yourself in position to attack first and if the opponent doesn't swap out after the first attack, kill it during the second turn.

Finally, I can't recall your entire team, but I would warn you against loading up on too many monotypes. It's nice to have the defensive flexibility of dual types.

I have my team balanced on types more or less... I have a trinity (psychic, dark, fighting) dragon, poison, flying and electric (fire&ice with gem).... before this team, I had water, fire, grass, psychic, ice, fighting, ground and electric (dragon&poison with gem), and they gave me a 15 streak "record" so... now I have my longest streak with 232 xD that must to be something...

But I know what you say...

Pretty solid Deoxys!

I'd give it a Choice Scarf/Band/Specs and truly let it shine. It's pretty impressive.

Pretty good IVs. I'd suggest using Influence Power with any Legendary eggs you're hoping to use to battle to really pump up their stats.

I have a ho-oh box xD but never thought about influence power... it's a good idea (but i don't like so much the legends xD so...

What item for a feraligatr? I put ice gem, for grass and dragon types... but for another water type it has nothing to do...

If you don't want to go with either of those gems, you could try a Poison Gem. It still gives you something against Grass types and would be something against other Water types.

Posted by: Doom Hunter Jul 4 2015, 01:33 AM

I might go with a Ground Gem, on the basis that electric types are more common competitively and, I think Subway-wise, than Grassers. (I see, on average, one Ampharos per three trainers...and that doesn't include the other electric types!)

In the meantime...holy tar, this Pichu. Not that I wanted a battle Raichu, but even with a cruddy neutral nature, this is tough to ignore:

I must agree with natures almost mattering more than IVs. Lets say you use a special attacker, then you obviously don't want a nature that decrease that stat. (Speaking of which, I still haven't switched my modest dugtrio) xD When it get to IVs I almost find that the placement of them are more important than the actual amount. Lets say you use that special attacker again, then who really cares if it got 0 IVs at the atk stat and lowering the total amount of IVs.

And to add on to this, sometimes a Nature like Mild or Naive that decreases a defensive state can be useful if the Pokemon's defense wasn't terribly high to begin with.

And this is fairly obvious, but Natures that decrease Speed or the preferred attack stat of the Pokemon are almost always useless.

So does Serebii have the info on what preferred stat a mon has? Because I have no idea.

The Dex entries on GPX have which attack stat is higher. Just as an example, Zapdos mentioned needing to replace his Modest Dugtrio. That's because it has a much higher Attack stat than Sp. Attack as you can see in the Dex entry.

VK...that's not entirely true. Speed decreasing stats CAN be very useful when it's say...something like an Aggron or Sudowoodo, which are terribly slow anyways and won't be outspeeding anything anytime soon, and can also easily afford to take a hit or two. Tanks, in general, don't need Speed, and mixed attackers would benefit greatly from none of their offensive or defensive stats going down. Kingdra is an example of a Pokemon that could afford a Speed decrease, because its use is mostly to absorb fire and water damage, and its offensive and defensive stats are equal.

I agree for the most part; that's why I said almost always useless. I agree that Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Gigalith, Sudowoodo, and Aggron, who are not going to outspeed someone, can afford it. I disagree about someone like Kingdra with middling speed though. Kingdra can outspeed some Pokemon, so I'd hate to shoot myself in the foot and take away some of that advantage.

Posted by: Doom Hunter Jul 4 2015, 09:59 PM

The difference is, though, Kingdra's a niche player-it doesn't have ANY outstanding stats, so its use is more defensive typing than offensive power. Its use, at least for me, is trapping and eliminating Fire, Water, and Steel-types, or damaging the incoming switch well and then hopping out. Since my Kingdra either isn't damaged most of the time enough to overcome Leftovers, or it's attacking on a switch anyways, its Speed matters MUCH less than my other pokes. That's why I'm a bit sad it's Bold, and not, say, Quiet or Relaxed.

Posted by: GothMetal Jul 5 2015, 12:47 PM

I guess it's better ground gem, I saw a lot of ampharos, raichus, and electric types
I was thinking about what types could counter water, and to battle an electric type, you can do a x1 damage... but it's ok ground gem (I think I need one more...) I have to compare to beating electric types or water-dragons-grass...

(It was about a feraligatr, i completely forgot it)

Honestly? It depends on the rest of your team. Do you have a solid Hippowdon/Dugtrio/Gliscor/whatever? Then go with Ice Gem. Got a Froslass or Glaceon chilling? Go with Ground Gem. Have both? Experiment!

I have a dugtrio, but I don't use it xD hippo and gliscor, I don't like them... and I don't use froslass not glaceon (My ice types are jynx and weavile at battle tower... but I'm using a jolteon with ice gem...)
So I don't know xD When I decide to use it, I will check my other pkmn at that team

Man, what a fierce combat against Zapdos!

After an unfortunate stalemate in the first bout, I switched my team up, and came out pistons firing.

It was close and tense for the longest time, switches back and forth trying desperately to get the edge!

And then, at last, a Haxorus broke through Azumarill's defensive line, and from there, chaos ensued!

It was a runaway victory for Doom Hunter in the end, but Zapdos's defensive front was VERY difficult to break!

I'm glad we've shown ourselves worthy of them since we gave them to ourselves x).gif

On another front, has anyone else noticed how many people (not in this group) don't have enough Pokemon in their Battle Tower to be challenged? It's among the more frustrating things on the site. Fill your Battle Towers, people!

HEY BATTLE DOJO!

It's quiet in here, and I need some help from y'all.

To anyone hatching Magikarp or Charmander:

I need an Adamant Magikarp and Modest Charmander with high IVs for an experiment I'm doing. I'm looking through the Safari, but if you've got one, get in contact with me, because I'd like to talk to you! happy.gif

Things are quite quiet at the Battle Dojo. We've had a few members join but nobody seems to be too active.

Posted by: Gryphaena Nov 5 2015, 03:04 PM

Maybe have some mentoring sessions going on?

That is, if there are any members like me who are not good at battling.

I would like to learn but I'm not able to play much at the present time.

Would it be futile if one tried to do battle on GPX+ without using items at all?

I hope i don't have to use valuable headspace for knowing the effects of items.

You can battle without items, but you're going to be a lot more successful with them.

Leftovers- Heal you around 8% after both Pokemon have attacked each turn.
Quick Claw- Your Pokemon has the chance to attack first regardless of speed.
Choice Band- Increases ATK stat by 1.5 times (300 ATK with a Choice Band would become 450 ATK); locks you into that move.
Choice Specs- Increases SP. ATK stat by 1.5 times (300 SP. ATK with a Choice Band would become 450 SP. ATK); locks you into that move.
Gems- Allow your Pokemon to use moves of the Gem's type.
