Ladies and Gents, it's that time again!

With the successes of Castle Vonmoto and PokeCon behind us, we bring you now to...

This is a battle tournament unlike any yet seen in Furoh. To celebrate (and test) new Daioh technology, a new stadium has been built north of Petropolis, on the peninsula overlooking distant Charizard Isle.

Here's how it's going to go:

The Preliminaries:
Each participant will be paired up with another participant. First, each person will post their own 1 v 1 battles against an NPC, signifying their entry into the tournament proper. Then, each person will have a PVP battle, 3 on 3. (Either single, double + reserve, or triple battle is acceptable, but must be agreed upon by the rpers). Win can either be decided by a coin toss, by judge (me), or by agreement.

Each combatant will have a maximum limit of 1 day to post (w/one day extension if requested through moi). Failing to post within the time limit will give the opponent a free turn, and they will be free to post again.

The Quarterfinals:
Quarterfinals will be Double battles with Reserve, in the style of the Furoh Gyms.

The Semifinals:
The Semi-finals will be done in triple battle style, with only three available pokemon.

The Finals: The Finals are in single battle format, with full 6 v 6, or scaled down to the smaller number. For example, if Douken Sota were to face Darius Dovakin, they would use only two pokemon each.

The Magic:
Daioh will be testing out its new technology, which will affect Pokeballs upon their registration: All Pokemon will be scaled to Level 50 for the duration of the tournament, and will be able to learn all of their techniques up to that point. If a pokemon is scaled down to 50, it will retain all of the techniques it has already learned. After each battle, the level will return to its original, and the techniques learn will disappear.

No evolutions are to occur during the level scaling period.

Catching Pokemon during the tournament will still be calculated via your current levels, not under the Level 50 scale.

The Extras:
For Co-ordinators, a great concert-hall style Contest Stage has been built for exhibitions, appeals, and any Contest Battles that should happen to occur.

A small village has cropped up around the area, providing food, shoppes, boutiques, and various other activities.

A dormitory-style hotel has been built for all participating combatants. An adjoining hotel houses any guests who were invited to spectate. It is complete with all sorts of fun amenities to be described later.

A small villa with motel like housing has appeared for spectators coming in from all over the world.

Several exhibition matches are to take place throughout the tournament, featuring notable trainers and co-ordinators from around the world.

The Catch:
Do not worry if you do not make it past your first battle. There will be plenty for you to do during the thread.

The Rewards:
For getting past the first leg of the RP and remaining active throughout the preliminary battles and events: +5 levels
For getting past the second leg of the RP: +5 Levels
For staying until completion of the Mass RP: +5 Levels.

Therefore, it is possible to earn a total of +15 Levels throughout this mass RP.

The MASS RP may take place at the same time as your other rps, thus bypassing the 'one rp at a time per character limit'.

Secondary Characters may also be used, but they should not meet with Primary Characters.

I having a feeling that Amelia's burning hatred of Petropolis would prevent her from participating. Unless there is an armed invasion of Petropolis.

@LSP: Combat is the main spectacle here. There's a coordination stage for Co-ordinators to strut their stuff. I'd say, for fun, some of the co-ordinators have a little sidebar match? The main event is the Battle Tournament though.

I'm pretty amazed that you figured out Part I of the plot.

Well, after Meloetta disappears and the trainers' guards are down, all the trainers are captured and thrown into a Hunger Games style arena, where they have no choice but to fight to the death. The losers will be allowed to make new characters with the same # of Pokemon and save average levels as their dead trainer. The winner gets all of their pokemon scaled up to 100.

I'd prefer it to be straight battle, but if the two co-ordinators agree, I'm sure they can scramble and assemble the judges.

When does this start? It'd be nice to make this Zack's first outing, even if he'll probably fail quickly. It's just I have major exams very soon and will be internet-less starting on Saturday. I finish on the 19th of June. I'm just trying to gauge how likely it is that I'll participate sufficiently in this, because if there's no way I can, I won't.

The way I understand it, you will be given rental pokemon to fill in the empty spaces if needed. Otherwise, it's scaled down to the lower team number. Don't let a technicality stop you!

Against my better judgement (due to having so little time lately), Branwys will participate, mostly at the urge of Dimo to help get over some of the stresses caused by "In the Shadows" [post coming soon!]. Jaima will not participate, as I feel he needs to sit one out (and the afore mentioned timey wimey stuff)

I also kinda love how Adelaide was sufficiently distracted by a passing sciencey-type thought to write it down during the photo. If a maternal figure was there, there'd've been a grounding for that. Also a "we told you not to bring that" and probably a "this is going to be a fun family holiday"...

And, knowing Adelaide, an "Oh sweet merciful Arceus how did you make so many damned CLONES?"

I've seen that my sprite had the same Sprite used as base (Cress). But I'm not sure who's sprite it is.


EDIT: Dragon Wish's Elizabeth has the same sprite-base. Perhaps if I were to battle DW2 it could be "Taking a stance".

You are free to 'arrive' in the main thread, but then please head to your 'preliminary match', which is a short 1 v 1 versus an imaginary opponent (except for Lyla Moore, who, I believe, is slated to lose her preliminary, yes?)

Spectators, you are free to spectate on any match you wish, as well as set up your presence in the main thread.

So in the thread titled with our character's name, we first hold a battle with a NPC of our creation and win (unless you wish to lose), and then have our character battle with the second character in the title name? On it.

Correct Your first post should be your preliminary round versus an NPC, which you win (or lose, in Lyla's case).

The next set of posts should be the PVP battle.

You're also free to appear in the main thread "between battles", though time in these events is always a bit...flexible.

My interpretation: when the pokemon are registered, they are put in a computer (just like with healing). The device works from there, adjusting levels and stats via coding. At least, that's how I interpret it.

Pan will join in as soon as her current RP ends.

I'm tempted to put Darius back in as a spectator and party it up in the village, gorge himself on fried everything .

If a character's Pokemon is at the right level to evolve already (without the lvl 50 upgrade, of course), could it evolve outside the battle arena without the special level boost provided? Or is that a no-no, since this is an in-between RP's type of event?

Only if it would be able to evolve without the level scaling. Ie, a level 40 charmander could evolve, but a level 12 one could not.

That was her prelim, so Seiccan wasn't there to begin with. Just have Seiccan enter the next arena to meet up with her.

Douken - 3C's post was pretty funny and it was clear to me what went on in her post (Adelaide winning her prelim match) so I personally feel that thinking of a response to it wouldn't be that bad. The end is equally as open-ended as yours so there's no real trouble there.

3C - Although this style of post would have been great in a roleplay contest, it is potentially confusing for other members. We do ask all members of PANE to write in third person for their characters so that posts from different members in a single roleplay flow nicely. That said, I'm sure your first post was intended as a creative opener which was leading into a third person style for your second post so no real harm done.

This sort of thing should be taken to PM in the first instance - please can everyone try to remember that before posting discussions about their battles in this thread otherwise this page could become a rather messy affair!

This humble one has a question: Has the RNG been used, and if so, how do we find out who gets what? Branwys is going into this competition with only two pokemon, so she needs one more for her first match, if I read the rules right...

For prelims, it's a 1x1 match, so you're good there. The next match could be a 2x2 if need be. Otherwise, Kamai can rng a pokemon for you.

I did it differently from you in a manner that references the Vitriolic Best Buds relationship of my favourite Starcraft 2 esports commentators, Mike "HuskyStarcraft" Lamond and John "TotalBiscuit" Bain. I apologise if it confused you; next time, I'll be sure to use little words and maybe an accompanying illustration.

I'd imagine it's a large tower, maybe stone or steel, in which the participants take an elevator either to the stadium to spectate or to the battle arena (maybe different floors for each?), which is large and open to the sky, containing the synthetic clouds closer to the battlefield than ever before, allowing for a true 'in the clouds' feeling. Aerial battles have the advantage there; clouds could provide cover for flying foes, or be used for a sneak attack. Circling the battle field are the stands, and the whole thing is probably roofless (that's how I picture it anyhow).

I have to double check, but I think the prelim was Joey's first win... Mindblowing.

And of course Claw's recent evolution screwed him out of some leveled techniques. *shakes head* Ah well.

Rental Pokemon kind of excite me. I can't wait to see what's in store there.

Also, quick rules question: if Adelaide was to rent a Remoraid and level up her Mantyke using the (hypothetical) levels accrued from the contest, would that allow Mantyke to evolve into a Mantine? Or would that not be kosher?

I figure that since it's a "Level up w/" style evolution, it would work in the same way as a Happiness or Level up w/ item evolution. If that's the case, you'd just have to request it in the main thread.

Here's the rub, though. In regards to rental pokemon, I've been doing it by RNG. Wah wah.

I would say, very cryptically of course, to please wait until the next leg of the rp gets underway.

As for the other battle threads, I've been reading through them and loving how everyone plays. I'm also genuinely dreading the next round; Adelaide's battle style tends towards the efficient, since she doesn't actually enjoy it much and just wants it over with as quickly as possible, but I'm not sure that her team has the raw power to make it work.

On a more serious note, let's have a look at what TD are doing here.

1) Going through the systems to subtly change what's going on and further their goals.

Adelaide lived and breathed computers back home, and by the standards of her reality the computer network in Furoh is up there with ancient Inca message-runners in terms of sophistication. She could probably break into the hardware of a nuclear missile silo (were there to be any in the Pokemon world) with one of those digital clocks that runs off a potato. You know, the ones you give that cousin you don't know very well for Christmas. Coding is always a bit tricky, but as has been seen in canon appearances, she can remotely hack pretty much anything via her cybereye as long as it's got an internet connection or a connection to something that does.

2) Scrambling the teams of the trainers while they're in storage.

You may or may not be aware that Adelaide's personal morality forbids the use of Pokeballs save in the direst and most necessary of circumstances. She keeps a few on hand, but they're a formality reserved only for when someone in her party has to visit the Pokemon Centre after being jumped on by, well, pretty much anything you'd care to mention, they're NFEs, she's only won by and fighting one guy who threw the fight from the off and another who was just incompetent (Messrs. Smart and Serroc respectively). Not only will she be entirely unaffected by this development, she'll probably make sure it's dealt with as soon as possible. Science and technology is, after all, something of a wheelhouse for the itinerant Professional Scientist (Mad).

3) Fighting Legendaries.

There's a little local custom in Furoh that the trainer doesn't get involved with a Pokemon battle, because it's just not sporting. There is a little local custom in the Amazonian rainforest wherein teenage boys are force-fed hallucinogens and have their arm jammed into a tube full of bullet ants, because that's how you become a man. Adelaide views them with equal respect, i.e.: go along with it for the time being, but when the chips are down ignore it completely. This is where Stompy Geoff comes in. Stompy Geoff, for those among you fortunate enough to not have read my battle with Yzarc, is a three-and-a-bit-ton mechanical suit in roughly the shape of Regigigas made out of scrap metal in about ten minutes and held together with bits of string and the magic of friendship. Stompy Geoff WILL feature heavily in proceedings; not necessarily with anything approaching actual competence, mark you, but heavily. Stompy Geoff does everything heavily, you see. It's probably something to do with weighing just over three tons. And Adelaide being Adelaide, she'll probably wind up fighting Raikou.

All Pokemon are Level 50. Each Pokemon will be allowed 1 Egg, Move Tutor or TM Move. Any move is allowed, since these Pokemon are all level 50.

I suggest pulling up the Pokedex of choice you use, and write down the movesets of your rental Pokemon for the duration of this Mass RP. Any Ability is fine.

I thought about it, and the answer I came up with was that she'd had to register them via Pokeball at the beginning of the competition. It's the balls that have been scrambled, not the mons' data itself, so other people have her Pokemon rather than their own. Were it not for a fact that she can do something to help, Adelaide would be in a corner crying violently into her own forearms, but that's the price one pays for being a professional Mad Scientist.

That's probably a result of me taking something Douken said to heart. Abilities really ought to affect the Pokemon's character more than I've been saying they do in my RPs, so I've been trying to adjust that a lot more - especially with the new Wooper, who is just sort of generally adorable because of his Unaware nature. Tynamo's kind of easy to write, he's basically Luffy from early One Piece but with lightning powers and a mild inferiority complex; Mantine's the same, with her being the straight woman to Tynamo's silliness, as is Roxy. And Joltik, who is the fuzziest, is deeply sarcastic and slightly mean-spirited, kind of the Proud Warrior Race Girl trope (which will become more apparent upon her evolution to Galvantula).

Oh, MH, if you're reading this: Roxy can talk, and is in fact pretty damn smart. That's what you get from hanging around a mad scientist for a while, I guess. =]

@ CCC: I believe Raikou is a few floors below where Adelaide is, if I read your post correctly. I tried to think of a way for him to make a detour up there, but I couldn't think of a good reason for him to do so. You might just have to wait for the rest of the yellow group to get set up before a Raikou encounter.

On a side note, the place is currently swarming with TD and those disguised as search and rescue. She's more likely to run into them than anything else.

Mega Stones, eh? Didn't see that one coming at all. The possibility of being able to mega-evolve pokémon as soon as X and Y come out is very promising indeed!

Anyway, supposing that the attacks and/or roars of Raikou and Entei are being heard/felt, can I use them in my next post? Something like feeling light tremors, considering the fact they're very deep inside the facility, or faintly hearing their roars is what I had in mind.

It's also the cries and attacks of many more pokemon, which means that's a possibility. I think we're going to give people a chance to recover at the pokemon center before delving deeper into the facility however.

On Mega Evolution: That was just a pun on when the games release. We still don't have a final decision on how it will play out in the RP. If it gives pokemon legendary power, it might be given as a contest prize. At the very least, you would make a evo request just like with the other stone evolutions.

OK, so most everyone is heading for the pokemon center. The place will be packed with panicked people demanding answers as to what happened. The computers will not be able to connect to the box system as all communications are down. Most everyone will be sitting outside, as there is barely any room inside the center itself.

With all the connections being down, that would include the trading machine, which will keep the computer (and devices) from connecting to the central database which sorts all this out. No pulling from boxes, no accessing their information, and no trading.

I'm assuming that most of the Pokemon will be back in their pokeballs for healing; all of the trainers with all six of their temporary Pokemon out would be just utmost chaos. Given that most of the trainers don't realize that they have someone's Pokemon on their team, it makes sense that, for instance, Branwys would go running up to Adelaide going "I HAVE YOUR SHINY CRANIDOS", considering they've never met. (Yes, I know Roxy would most likely not be in her pokeball.)

Also, to limit confusion, please continue to only control the Pokemon in your trainer's current roster. Using the same example, CCC shouldn't roleplay Roxy, but rather MH should. I think this will help simplify this section of chaos before we split into threads.

Not necessarily in this RP; if it gets to the point where characters have to fight TD members, it's not unreasonable to assume that they carry shadow pokemon on them.

In any case, I'm pretty sure you can do all of that in your own RP .

@CCC - No worries Lori isn't the most prepared trainer ever and she's a rookie compared to nearly everybody else so she's going to be like that ;p I didn't think you were being mean etc - I recognise that the Doctor can be anal at times and it fit her perfectly

I don't think the Doctor saw that, so she'd have no frame of reference for Lori's fear.
