I also like Squirtle the most. He's useful in the 1st, 7th, and 8th gym and also pretty handy against Misty's Starmie if it knows Bite.

I've always heard that for the regular Blue/Red at least, Bulbasaur was the easiest, then Squirtle, then Charmander.

Everyone love Charmander, but I normally choose Bulbasuar.
Squirte is my favorite.

A Few Favorites

If you're going for a more easy run-through, I suggest Bulbasaur: most of the first gyms will be pretty easy with it. Squirtle also makes the 1st, 7th and 8th gym pretty easy to beat. And Charmander will give you a hard time in the beginning.

Anyway, I choose more with feeling than strategy, so I tend to chose Squirtle ^^

I love me my Charmander. In the end, the hardships you face in the beginning are completely worth it, as you get a good-levelled Charizard with a kick-ass movepool when you beat the E4 with him.

I always liked Bulbasaur the best.

Made the first few gyms a breeze, and stayed fairly useful throughout the game as well. Not to mention there aren't very many other decent grass types running around in game.

I like Charmander the best, though it's hard to use it in the early gyms.

Also, anyone agree with me that the first gen starters were the best, in terms of coolness?

I'd say Charmander, because I always do very well in games when I have a fire starter.

Charmander for sure. I have no problems getting through the game when I pick Charmander. By the time I get to the Elite Four, it's level 75+ and completely unstoppable.

I've always been a big charmander fan. Nearly every time I pick a starter I go with the fire type. But squirtle was always my second favorite starter pokemon...and I liked bulbasaur quite a bit too. All the original starter pokemon were awesome. I can't really say that about the rest of the starters in the other games though...

I like charmander best, but i chose squirtle as many people told me if i picked charmander the game would be too difficult for me...
I didn't believe them, but i still chose squirtle.

I personally like Charmander the best, but he's a bit hard to start with in Gen. 1 and FR/LG because of the first two Gym Leaders.

All three are great, but I prefer Charmander the best. I seem to go farther in the game quicker using it. Plus, 'Zard's awesome.
