I have an Eevee in HeartGold right now that I cant decide who to turn it into. Which do you think is better and why: Espeon or Umbreon?

Umbreon all the way! One it is a Dark type, An awesome type all around.
I know alot of things about alot of Pokemon but i'm not an 'expert' on espeon.So i'm really just going to list good things about Umbreon

I taught my shiny level 100 Umbreon
Moonlight
Dark Pulse
Return
Confuse Ray<<I will get rid of soon.

All and all it's your choice.I'm almost pisitive Umbreon can learn Physcic if so that takes care of Fighting types.

Espeon because when trained right it can sweep any pokemon in one turn. It's defense sucks but it's super strong and super fast. Umbreon is bad because it can take forever to knock out your opponent. I guess that's my opinion though. :P

I prefer Espeon. It has muscles made of paper, but its Special Attacks are punishing. Umbreon, on the other hand, is good for taking hits, but it can't dish any out.

Neither of them are my favorite, tbh. I prefer Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Leafeon, but it's your decision, of course~

I'm 100% for Vaporeon because it is a water type, but everyone knows I have a bias towards all other types besides water. If you really want either Espeon or Umbreon, go Espeon. Umbreon takes a lot of effort to set up and totally defensive. For regular game play, it is much easier to use a fast sweeper to decimate your opponents.

Pretty Much You're Choice. however espeon is powerful with special attacks and umbreon is good with staying alive.

However i would choose umbreon because if you teach it swagger and some different type attacks, its very strong.

If you would mean in appearance I would say Espeon, but in power and battle I wouldn't be able to choose as they are both very strong Pokémon.

Uh matters.
Espeon can sweep an opponent fast.
While Umbreon can stay on the legs a lot.

Espeon is a sweeper Umbreon is a tank. (Espeon got better attack Umbreon is more defensive)
Umbreon is a bit more secure against elite 4 and the champion actually.
So uh.
I'd personally pick Umbreon.
Oh and yes.
Umbreon is dark type.
Which would resist most of the elite 4 and Lance.

I would choose espeon, but get both if possible. They complement each other PERFECTLY if taught the right moves.
Ubreon to take the hits, and espeon to deal the damage. Double battles are (most of the time) easy when you use them both with the proper training.

But yes. If only one, espeon. Both umbreon and espeon need the right training and moveset to be good, but espeon is a little easier to geta a good moveset and correct EVs imo.

Out of the two i have to choose Espeon>^.^<
sure it doesn't have the best defense
but overall it can take down the opponent easily and if it has the right moves it'll be a lot better than umbreon.

Espeon! Its so cute and is one of the few psychic type Pokemon I like. However, I do agree that shiny Umbreon look cooler, and I do love dark types but if this were a poll my vote would still go to Espeon ^^

I think that you should evolve it into whichever is convenient at the time then breed another one and evolve it into the other so you'll have both. But I personally like Umbreon better because I'm a fan of dark types

In terms of aesthetics... I dunno, it's hard to choose. Espeon is more cute, and Umbreon looks more cool. In battle, I use my Espeon as a special sweeper while my Umbreon builds up its Attack and Defense with Curse. I guess I'd have to go with Umbreon overall, but ask me a different day and I might say something else.

Espeon if you like a pokemon that can dominate others or Umbreon if you r looking for a special defence/crappy healer. Espeon in my opinion has better moves but Umbreon looks better. So personally, have both in a double battle cause Umbreon raises attack and stuff, and then Espeon attacks with even more destructive power, then heal with moonlight if need be, and repeat

Espeon, um because you can use it a lot more because it can OHKO most opponents. Umbreon is just plain annoying, at least for me, since I tried using one, and it ended up fainting instead of making the other Pokémon faint. Really that is just wrong. But if the Shiny versions are counted Umbreon wins all the way. Who'd like a lime-green kitty?

Yay, my 150th post on April Fools Day! Anyway, I would go with Espeon. But, you should choose whoever you like. I see it as three battles:

1: Cute Design vs Cool Design
2: Psychic Type vs Dark Type
3: Special Sweeper (Espeon) vs Mixed Wall (Umbreon)

Your choice... (Go with Espeon!)

I think that Espeons are better, but I really like them both.
1. Espeon is has sun powers (doesn't it?) and overall, it's just amazing.
2. Purple, and a pinkish red jewel on the forehead. Can you get any better than that?

I've always loved Espeon more myself. Due to the fact that it's part of the reason why I learned how to draw it holds a special place in my heart. Umbreon on the other hand does not.

I love them both, I personally prefer Umbreon because I love darkness and night time. If you are looking for which one has better stats though:

At the bottom of each page is a stat chart for each.
They have about the same base attack, but Umbreon has way better base defense while Espeon has way better base special attack. So it depends on what stats you value.

Although as suggested you could just breed with a ditto and end up with both.

It depends what you want.

Baton Passer, Umbreon is really good for the job. High defences + Mean Look (if you're talking pre-V), and is also a good Toxic staller. Also, dark has the bonus of x0 with Psychic, so a lot of moves negated.

Espeon would be good as a Spe. Sweeper, and high speed stat means it will almost always go first, so it doesn't need to take hits if you give it the right moves.

Imo, I would hatch another Eevee and get both. No harm in doing that. ^^

Well, I tend to go with whichever my Eevee evolves into first-- but I usually try to get Espeon before Umbreon (both are equally lovely, in my opinion) simply because the dex entry has always interested me the most. xD If I planned for an easier battle or something though, I notice my Umbreons usually help me a lot...

I've always had a special connection to both for some odd reason, along with the other Eeveeloutions but, I think Espeon has very strong moves like Morning Sun and Psychic but Umbreon doesn't have as many (as I remember). So I guess I'm impartial.

In battle, Umbreon is better, but I like Espeon, I think Espeon has a higher SP Attack and knows a lot of powerful moves, I keep Espeon in my team and is my favorite Eevee Evolution.

It really depends on what niche you want it to play...

If you want specail sweeper, use Espeon

If you want annoyin defence wall, use Umbreon

Umbreon is better than Espeon by pure typing, in battle i'd probably still go with Umbreon due to it's defensive capabilities, but if i wanted an annoying sweeper, then i would choose Espeon.

They both work together good in Pokemon Colosseum, but I've noticed that Espeon was always faster and better to knock out opponents. Umbreon was good at taking hits, but not dishing out moves o . o Overall, both are good in their own ways, but I'd go with Espeon.

Neither is good on their own, I played Colosseum for the Gamecube before someone stole my copy;
Umbreon is great on defense and Espeon for Offense; They NEED eachother. Umbreon is a great supporter with Confuse Ray, Hypnosis/Leer/Growl/Helping Hand, Crunch/Bite (I Prefer Bite), and Swift/Quick Attack/Toxic (I usually choose Toxic) If Espeon has Psybeam/Psychic, Safegaurd, Hyper Beam/Protect/Dream Eater (Dream Eater must be paired with Umbreon's Hypnosis or with another pokemon and Umbreon can have a healing/Status (Heal Bell or Wish) move which is also recommended...) depending on how well you feel its defense is, and Shadow Ball.. My team was the shit....

Basically what everyone else is saying: Umbreon is bulky and Espeon is good special attacker that learns strong moves. Of course, based on looks, I prefer Umbreon. (Shallow as that may be!)

I'm always on the dark side. The Espeon just feels superficial and in love with itself. It's real snooty and I feel the other pokemon judge Umbreon too quickly despite he's a sweet and shy guy because they think he's scary. :P Least that's what I saw when the Pikachu friends visited the Eevee family.

I actually love both. Espeon was the first one I got when I played Gold for the first time when I was seven or so. But...I think I'd still have to go with Umbreon. Though really, I like them just the same. They are both awesome in their own way.
