Well you know, pokemon producers are running out of ideas and then Platinum comes out, no new pokemon, just different forms, rebattle gym leaders and some battle frontier stuff going on. Many people who are pokemon hungry crave for a new game to add to their addition, so do you think that pokemon platinum is just a scheme to make money?

Well, technically all games are money making schemes. But everyone expected Platinum. They've been making third games since the begining, its just the way Pokemon works. Just like having pairs of games. I don't think its a case of them running out of ideas at all. Different formes, redone gyms etc is what the third games are all about. Don't worry, I'm sure their working on the gen 5, and they'll have plenty of new stuff. And I bet HG/SS will have a fair few tricks up its sleve too.

True. I actually heard that the 5th gen was gonna be pokemon based on greek mythology or something.

YES. I've always thought that, it's the reason I will NOT buy platinum. I have pearl. It's compatible with platinum. I DON'T NEED PLATINUM. I don't have $30 to throw out the window right now on a barely changed game. </rant>

Its nothing new...heck if you think that's bad, the Japanese had 4 first generation Pokemon games...
First there was Green and Red, then came Blue which had improved sprites and fixed some glitches (this eventually turned into the english versions of Red and Blue) and then came Yellow.. Pokčmon IS and has always been a money-making franchise. Why do you think they release two at a time? So that everyone HAS to trade with someone else! There's even people out there who buy ALL the games in one generation.. (personally I settle for one.. I've had Red, Sapphire and Platinum...occasionally borrowed my brother's Yellow and Ruby but I never considered buying them for myself). And then there's the countless spinoffs like Pokčmon Ranger, Pokčmon Mystery Dungeon, Pokčmon Dash, Pokčmon Stadium/Colosseum, Pokčmon XD, Cooking with Pikachu.... Okay I made up the last one but at this point I almost wouldn't be surprised Oh and good luck if you want to complete the entire National Pokčdex. For that you'll need Diamond, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, Leaf Green AND Pokčmon Ranger (for Manaphy) and keep going to Nintendo events for pokčmon like Shaymin, Mew, Celebi, Darkrai and Arceus...if you're lucky enough to FIND events that have all these I mean... sure its new forms but i understand. the creators wanted to revisit old pokemon and add what they couldent do before. sure some is to make more money but not all. i see why they re-visited old pokemon. its better than a complete generation of new evolutions and babys. they spread it out.

every single pokemon generation will always have a third one except for the ones that are remade like LeafGreen and FireRed.
yellow was the only success because of pikachu and in emerald they introduced the battle frontier. even they are making plans for 5th generationbut is all for the money. Red-Blue:Yellow Gold-Silver:Crystal Ruby-Saphire:Emerald Pearl-Diamond:Platinium -------------------- |

Well, aren't video games in a whole a scheme to make money?
And no I don't believe that Platinum was made just for the money. Platinum fixed of a lot of problems in Diamond and Pearl, like the super slow surfing, Darkrai/Shaymin being obtainable without being activated by an event, a back button for the Poketch, and more. Really, Platinum is the best third game so far. -------------------- |

I never heard anything about a 5th generation, but I agree with some of the above posts. Think about Ruby and Sapphire Versions. That was a pair, and then later they came out with a third, called Emerald, with very little changes. But what I think about in this whole situation is that the anime is going to end with the Diamond and Pearl generation, but the games are going to keep on going. It was just something in the Diamond and Pearl (original) theme song on TV that made me think and think until I got to that conclusion.

To me platinum is just like yellow, crystal, and emerald. By that I meant a way to interest the players without changing much in the game between generations. (so ya a scheme to make more money basically lol)

I never really liked the third game of a gen. It makes the other two look worthless, like the third fixed up everything about the gen. That's why I never bought Platinum, since I already bought Pearl, and it would be useless to waste 30$ on something nearly the same.
Unlike the majority, I usaually buy the second game of a gen(e.g. Blue for 'Red and Blue', Sapphire for 'Ruby and Sapphire') just to have a better chance at finding someone to trade for Pokemon exclusively in the first game of a gen, since not as much people buy the second game of a gen. If I buy the fifth gen, I'll probably buy White instead of Black. -------------------- Proud to be Asian.
