I could certainly go for more region/climate variations, such as the anime displayed occasionally. But the game's technical capabilities would be sorely taxed by such. I'd rather have more interesting species than more color variations, personally.

It'd be nice, but in terms of game coding, it'd be pretty unfeasable (I mean, when you think about it, shinies are just a fun little extra) and unnessicary.

I would like to point out that on the old Pokemon Stadium games, whenever you used a Pokemon who had a nickname, their colors were altered. They were never too drastic, as they were still based on their original colors, but they were darker or lighter, stuff like that. I wouldn't find much of a problem with that.

Perhaps... pokemon get 1 or 2 colors that are slightly different, like Storm Cloud (Dark Gray) Castform, or a Lavender Oddish. Shinies would still be in there, just as rare.

To be honest, it would work better if they had a natural colour in the wild and CPU trainer battles, but there was a facility to colour the Pokémon yourself. Kind of like what WipEout Pulse has to the ships.
Another idea is to have "clothes" that the Pokémon could wear, like a bandanna for a Blaziken or something, but could be worn by all Pokémon. This way, it wouldn't require new sprites for it like what, say, a jacket would, but instead a point of where to attach the item. -------------------- |

Sort of. I mean, full clothes wouldn't work as they would require a different sprite for different Pokémon.

I agree. It would be cool if every pokemon had at least one distinguishing feature or color, like on Girafarig. It would be cool if no two had the same spots. And Hippopotas, where each of their camouflage patterns could be unique. It would add more of a sense of realism to the games. Also, I think it would be awesome if there were a pokemon that could change types at will. Kecleon can kind of do that, but it only changes to the type of the attack that first hits it.

I was actually thinking the same thing earlier! xD I love this idea, whether with color, or with spots (like Spinda's). It would really freshen up the games and add a new element of challenge trying to get the color/markings you wanted. I remember spending hours trying to find the perfect Spinda! If all pokemon were like that, or even more of them, it wouldn't take away from, but rather add to the spirit of shinies.
I know coding. Doing something like this would take up minimal memory, especially if it was for all pokemon. It's pretty simple to set up, completely feasible. Plus it would be killer hard to hack, which is more than you can say for shinies. *pats gameboy full of sparkly pokemon* -------------------- |

I was thinking you could do something with different areas you find them in, such as what was already sone with shellos/gastrodon. Make a few different color variations and have them set to different areas. It would be especially cool if and when they ever make a game that encompasses all 4 (main game) regions, as you could have 2-3 variations across each land, adding up to about 12 colors on certain pokemon.

It would be cool. But it would require a humoungous databank.

Eh, I mean, that would be kinda neat. But like it has been said before, a waste of space. Standard DS cards are around 1 GB or so. They have to fit an entire game into that space. I believe Pokemon games take up a good amount of that memory.
So alternate colors: for me no. But GF is crazy, they may add another set of alternate colors or forms next gen. I mean hell I was ridiculously surprised when they announced Shaymin Sky Forme. Anythings possible really -------------------- |

I personally think that in the 5th generation (IT WILL COME OUT!!!!!!) they should maybe have a duo of common pokemon that have a wide veriety of coulors depending on where you catch them. For example, in the nourthern part of the region they would be white and light blue variations.

If that were the case, then what would the point be in shiny Pokemon? If they were always different colors, then it wouldn't be so interesting and exciting when you get a shiny Pokemon, which is a 1 in 1 million chance. The game was created that way so when you get a shiny Pokemon you would be shocked. I think it's fine the way it is.

I wouldn't way different colored pokemon because then I would have to go crazy and spent extra time and effort to get all my pokemon to look the way I want them too. But I would like it if it was like Shellos where it looks a certain way depending on where it was caught.

I don't think they should implement any sort of colour changing. It would take the fun out of finding a shiny pokemon :\
