Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ GPXPlus Discussion _ What Are IVs?

What exactly are IVs, and how are they determined? I don't understand anything about them and I can't find any information.

IVs, or Internal Values, are points assigned to Pokemon that determine how many extra stat points are given to a Pokemon as they level up. They are given at complete random upon hatching, and vary between 0 and 31 IVs. It is also possible to have a Pokemon with 0 or 186 IVs. You can give up to six vitamins to a Pokemon to increase its IVs by one each. Essentially, the higher they are, the better.

Ok, I didn't understand what they were at all. Thanks so much.
