Disscussion Thread <-Plot & Thread To Discuss.

As James walked away he waved his friends good bye and started walking off. He looked around at Port Barley to observe it and see everything. There where Shops, Spas Cafe's and then their was the beach and Marina. It all looked beautiful, James was happy and was ready to fully start his pokemon journey. At first James didn't know what to do but after a while he thought he would go get something to eat. Seeing on the trip he had almost forgotten to eat. He looked around for a food shop that drew his attention. He looked left first and saw some good food stores but it wasn't what he was looking for. He then looked to the right and saw a burger shop as he almost started drooling.

He walked over to the blue sliding doors and when he got close they automatically opened, he was pretty excited to see sliding doors because he had never seen them before. He walked over to the table and pulled the brown cushioned chair out so he could sit down. He saw a menu on the table and reached across to it and picked it up. there was all types of burgers but James wanted a meat burger. He saw the "Meat-O-Burger and he had found what he wanted. The tall dark haired waitress came over and said in a very soft voice

"Hello. May I take your order?"she said in a soft and charming voice.

James looked at her she was a pretty girl and looked around 15 years old. James blinked his eyes and then replied to her

"Um could I have one Meat-O-Burger and a side of chips and some Poke-Pellets please?"James said without stuttering.

She gave a little giggle and then said

"Would you like a drink with that?" As she looked a bit embarrassed.

James looked at her and said

"Yes could I please get a Cherry Blitz."

She looked as she checked over what James had said and she walked over smiling at James. James thought she was a pretty as he watched her walk into the kitchen and give the chef James order. The chef was a sneasel and it looked pretty happy where it was. As he went to make James order.

Ali jumped off the dock and looked at Al (Short for Alexander), her squirtle. Al enjoyed the ride very much. At first, she thought it was because of the water, then she saw him standing at the edge, enjoying the wind. Ann, her shinx, was also there for about halfway through, but then the ride didn't agree with her, and she had to be recalled back in her pokeball. Searching in her pockets, Ali picked out Ann's pokeball and tossed it.
"Ann, come out."
The shinx came out in a flash of white light, and she seemed fine. She looked around.
"Shinx, shinx?"
"Yeah, this is Port Barley. Here, I need to talk with you guys."
Ann and Al both knew about Ali's 'talks.' She was very stragetical, and she had talked with them for almost everything they were going to do. Ali walked in the pokemon center, (after a bit of looking) and pointed to the map on the wall.
"We are here," she pointed her finger where Port Barely was written. "I thought we should go to Under Hill first, after we explore a bit here. It would be good training." She moved her finger to Under Hill, and then to Fidona. "After some training, we'll go to Fidona for a contest. I was thinking using Ann for the battle round with another pokemon, and you Al, for the appeal. After that, we'll plan out the rest." Ann was listening intently, but Al actually got up and wandered off a bit. Ali sighed and followed after him. Suddenly, he turned around and fired a bubble attack at them both. "Al!" Ali laughed. Ann grinned, and used a swift attack.

"Hey, If you really want some training, tell that to Ali."
Al walked over to Ali. He pointed at the beach, and pretended to attack.
"You want some training?"
"Squirt, squirtle!"
"Ok then," Ali said, combing her fingers through her hair. It was already messy. "Let's see what kind of pokemon there are here."

Wandering through the familiar streets of her hometown, Aussie's mind was otherwise engaged in activities not pertaining to where she was heading. All sorts of questions, concerns, and worries drifted through her mind as she meandered through the twisting alleyways and streets any local would know by heart. Among other things, getting lost was the last worry on Aussie's mind. To get lost in Barley, she'd have to be blindfolded, driven to a remote warehouse, and drugged. The thing that was bothering her was starting her 'journey' as they called it. Something about that term didn't really appeal to Aussie. A journey made it sound as if she had a plan in mind. No, she wasn't taking a journey. She was taking a wandering, if ever there was such a thing.

The fact she had just left the comfortable, familiar confines of her home for an indefinable amount of time was one thing that was bothering her. Another was where to go next. As much as she dreaded leaving behind her aunt and home, she couldn't wander through these familiar lanes for eternity; although, it already felt like an eternity by this point. It had been no less then three hours since she had said her last farewell to her Aunt Georgia. Eventually she knew she'd have to make a decision, but for now, all she could resolve to do was stumble along like a lost sheep.

Before she knew it, Aussie had made her way to the more tourist-friendly parts of town. Looking on dully, seeing but not really comprehending, she passed lines of shops, spas, tourist traps, hotels, and other places that gave off an air of ethereal jolliness and festivity that only lurked in the places where the tourists visited, in their bright, loud t-shirts and ugly fanny packs. Behind this exterior was another side of Barley these intruders would never get to see, the tight-knit neighborhoods, the local grocery store where all the old-timers hung out, the dingy restaurants where the best food was served: essentially, a hometown. To them, this was nothing but a place to stop by for a week or two, enjoy themselves raucously, and then move on. For Aussie it was much more. She hadn't even left yet and homesickness was clawing at her insides.

Suddenly, Aussie was pulled out of her reprieve by, as funny as it may sound, a disgruntled grunt. Pausing, she looked down at her feet. Shadow was puffing like a steam engine at her heels, attempting to keep up with Aussie. A smile edged Aussie’s lips as the little Swinub struggled to keep pace with her, its tiny feet shuffling so fast that it might as well have been running. The fact that her Swinub was a little ‘fluffy’ because it liked to eat a lot had completely slipped Aussie’s mind. The poor creature had just had the workout of a lifetime, trying to keep up with her for three hours straight. Maybe it was time to take a break. Bending down, she grabbed the little ball of fluff and snuggled Shadow against her chest.

Shadow stopped huffing and dug her snout into Aussie’s chest appreciatively, little snorts of pleasure taking the place of her puffing breath. For some reason, Aussie found this unbelievably funny and adorable. Laughing loudly, she hugged Shadow tightly until the Swinub started squealing and wiggling, struggling to get out of the stifling hug. Aussie paused, the panicked squealing finally breaking through her happiness. Apologizing profusely, she heard an annoyed hoot echoing from a pocket on her bag. Before she could stop herself, Aussie started laughing uncontrollably as Mimic poked her eyes out, glaring at Aussie with a look of pure annoyance. “Everything I do annoys you, doesn’t it?” she muttered between giggles to the little bird.

“Hoot,” it said testily, before blinking and disappearing back into the confines of her pocket.

Now that she had stopped dwelling on the fact she was homesick, Aussie realized she was starving. Without pausing, she headed towards the nearest restaurant, not bothering to look at what sort of food it served. When she walked through the sliding doors though, the smell that assaulted her nose was a mixture of fries and burgers. Scanning the room, she knew where she was in a heartbeat. It was one of the few places in the tourist district that actually served decent food. Tracking over to a barstool at the counter, she waited for the waitress to come, scanning the room while she did. The place was pretty empty, except for some kid that looked a few years younger than herself with black hair.

Soon enough, the waitress came over. Aussie recognized her immediately, a kid from her neighborhood that was around her age. She’d seen her many times over the years, but she didn’t know her all that well. Quickly, her natural shyness started to settle over her. Her tongue felt thick and heavy in her mouth. It wasn’t as if she’d never eaten here or talked to this particular person, but she was never comfortable around people unless she knew them well.

“Aussie, isn’t it? I know you! You live a few streets down from me. What’ll it be?” the waitress said, a friendly smile on her face.

A few awkward seconds passed as she struggled to push words through her lips, but when she finally did get something out, it sounded more like a soft, strangled whimper of fear than an attempt at ordering. The waitress blinked and looked at her curiously before stepping back and saying, “Alright then. I’ll give you a few more minutes to think it over.”

The waitress gave her one more concerned, questioning look before turning away and hustling away as if she was trying to escape a murderous, insane maniac. A sigh of relief escaped her as the waitress got farther and farther away. The fear of talking to a stranger evaporated from her mind. As if to comfort her, Shadow nuzzled her chest again and said, "Swine?"

Smiling appreciatively down at her pokemon, she stroked her fur for a moment before kissing her head and setting her back on the ground. Swinub sniffled once, looked up at Aussie, laid down on the ground, and fell asleep in seconds.

Suddenly, Al started walking back to the noisy, store part of Port Barely. Then he walked back to the beach. Then back to the stores. Annoyed, Ann trotted prissily in front of Al and blocked his path. Calmly, Ali kneeled down and asked Al, "What do you really want?" Immediently, his stomach started growling. Ali laughed and motioned for them to follow her back into the town.

With statagy on her mind, she hadn't really paid attantion to the port itself. It was certainly a busy place. Tourists from all over came here first. There were people from all regions, Kanto, Sinnoh, even a ranger from Almia on vacation. Of course, there were also a veriety of pokemon. Trying to push her way through the crowd around the dock, she found a veriety of resturaunts. Of course, both her pokemon wanted different things. Ann, being Ann, immediently pointed to the fanciest resturaunt. Al, being Al, went to a resturaunt with an all-you-can-eat buffet. Ali sighed and pointed out, "Both resturaunts are way too expensive. We don't have that much money." With that, Al ran to a burger resturaunt. "Fine, but I get to choose next time, k?" Ann said warningly. "Fine."

The resturaunt was nice, calm, and had a strong smell of burgers. When Ali and Ann sat down, Al made a beeline for a burger being carried by a waitress. "No, Al!" Ali got up and grabbed the troublesome little squirtle, and made sure he stayed in the seat. "I'm so sorry, he's just hungry, y'know, and..."
"It's ok," The waitress said in a soft voice. She gave the burger (thankfully, unharmed) to the customer, and asked Ali, "What would you and your pokemon like?" Al grabbed the menue and greedily showed the waitress the largest one. Ann put her paw on the smallest, vegetarian burger, and Ali also went with a vegitarian one. "Ok," The waitress said. "Your orders will be done soon." With that, she bustled off.

The moment the waitress was gone, the two pokemon started chatting.

"Wow. You're going to gain alot of weight with that thing."
"Like I care. I'm hungry and it tastes good. Get off my case."
"Hmph. You heard what Ali said about our contest plan. You're going to be in appeals."
"It's not like I'm going to burst with one burger, k?!"
"Stop your bickering," Ali complained. "I swear, you two fight like a married couple."
Ann and Al looked at each other, apparently mortified.

James saw the waitress coming to his table with the ready food. It looked really delicious. He saw everything he asked for. The Meat-O-Burger,Chips,Poke Pellets and the Cherry Blitz. It looked so good as the cute waitress arrived out the table and said

"Here you go. I hope you enjoy." She said and winked and walked off.

James looked happy as he grabbed three pokeballs out of his pocket and released his three pokemon as they came out in a glowing red beam of light. Trikey, Frost and Muddy came out and looked excited as he grabbed a chair for each of them to sit on. They all sat there as they looked hungry for food. He gave them the Poke Pellets and each a few chips and a piece of his burger. They were spoilt as James only had a bit of food left, but that didn't worry him as he grabbed the burger in his hands and started eating it.

Busily scanning the menu, Aussie tried to prepare herself for the waitress making an appearance again. Even the thought of talking to her again made her shiver with fear. When she had left home, she hadn’t stopped to consider the implications her debilitating shyness would have. If her Aunt Georgia were here, she wouldn’t have had to worry about having to speak. She’d have just ordered for her and then said something joking or strange to Aussie to snap her out of her reverie, but alone she’d have to learn how to speak to strangers without the aid of her adopted mother. Daunting as this was, it was only one more thing on a very long list of concerns Aussie had about this ‘journey’.

Slipping her notebook out of her pocket and grabbing her pen from its perch behind her ear, Aussie flipped to an open page and started scribbling away, making notes on her worries and possible ways to remedy them. The sound of the pen scratching across the paper was a soothing lullaby to her, familiar and comforting. Soon enough, she lost track of time. It was far too easy for her to lose track of everything else when she became focused on something. As she was filling up one page and preparing to start another, the waitress’s voice cut through her single-minded attention to the task at hand like a foghorn.

“Have you decided yet?” the girl asked, cautious but still friendly.

Yelping in surprise at the interruption, Aussie jumped and tumbled off her seat, landing on the ground with an audible smack. On the way down, she thought she heard a dull thud, followed by sharp pain radiating from her elbow. Blinking, she tried to clear her mind of the cloud of confusion the unexpected events had caused. As she came to, she realized the waitress was looking down at her, pen poised over her notebook waiting to scribble down her order hastily. To suddenly find her customer sprawled out on the floor must have been a shock. The sharp pain was already lessening, dulling to nothing more than an annoying flutter in the back of her mind.

“Oh! There’s blood all over your elbow! Are you okay?” the waitress exclaimed, finally regaining her wits. Pausing for a moment, she produced some napkins from the front pocket of her apron, holding them out towards Aussie. “Take these. I’ll go see if we have any bandages in the back.”

Instinctively Aussie turned her face away from the waitress, not wanting to meet her eye to eye. Her cheeks flamed red as a stop sign at her blunder, embarrassment only making it harder for her to talk to the waitress. Darting a glance down at her elbow to put off the moment where she would have to struggle to reply, she noted that it was nothing more than a shallow cut. A few beads of blood snaked down her arm, but it should stop bleeding soon enough. What worried her more was the bruises already beginning to blossom around the edges of the cut. She didn’t relish the idea of her elbow being sore and tender because of them for the next few days, but it was unavoidable.

Now that she had gauged the situation, she knew she couldn’t put off talking to the waitress any longer. Looking back at her, her tongue quickly began to feel as heavy as lead in her mouth. Her breath picked up a little in fear. Already half-strangled syllables started to bubble from her lips, but before she had time to dwell on talking in depth to the waitress, she was surprised by an excited squeal. Before she could blink, Shadow had bolted awake, jumping over Aussie in the direction of the table where the younger boy was sitting. Aussie didn't have to be a genius to deduce what was going to happen. Shadow liked food and would shove her snout in it whenever she could, even when it belonged to other people.

Standing up in a flash, Aussie chased after her Pokémon, flailing as she tried to keep her balance on the slick, waxed floor. For a fat Swinub with stubby legs who had just had the workout of a lifetime, Shadow could move quickly when she wanted. Disgruntled hoots of protest rang from her bag’s pocket as Mimic was jostled as she ran. Puffing like a steam engine, Aussie’s face paled as Shadow approached the table. With a final burst of speed, she barely managed to catch Shadow in time, grabbing the little troublemaker by a back leg before she could leap on the table. When Shadow realized she had been captured, she began squealing loudly in protest, nose wriggling as she focused one-mindedly on the smell of food.

Grabbing the Swinub around the chest and sweeping her into her arms, Aussie started to regain her wits. Shadow continued to struggle in her grip, squealing loudly the whole time. The little brute was no match for Aussie’s tight hug though as she realized she was standing in front of the young boy’s table after having just making a complete fool of herself chasing her Pokémon around the restaurant like a chicken with its head cut off. Breathing hard both from the chase and her anxiety, she tried to apologize for interrupting him, but her embarrassment and fear were too much. It was made doubly worse when the waitress wandered over too, a look of open amusement on her face. Quickly laying out the napkins on the table, she said between giggles, “I’ll just go get those bandages now.”

Aussie knew better then that. More than likely, the waitress planned to go into the back, call her friends, and tell them the story about the insane customer she had, or that’s at least what the paranoid side of Aussie’s brain concluded. Cheeks flaming red once again, Aussie was only slightly relieved when the waitress turned and disappeared into the back again. Staring at her for a few seconds as she walked away, it took all her willpower to face the boy again. Apologize and then leave, she reminder herself; that’s all she had to do. The thought of escaping this situation gave her a little confidence, allowing her to speak. She tried to say ‘I’m sorry,’ but when the words passed her lips, she said “I… I’m s… so… Sherry.”

Her face reddened again as she realized she had just introduced herself by the wrong name. She decided to blame it on Sherry for sounding too similar to sorry, instead of her frightened state of mind. Too fearful to try to correct the mistake, Aussie just stood there, staring at the green-eyed boy like a deer caught in the headlights.

Ali was a bit startled when a swinub from another table started rushing at a boy with a burger. The trainer immediently started chasing the little pokemon. Ann snickered a bit at Al. "Hey, you two must be related or something." Al gave her a dirty look, and continued licking the plate for crumbs. "Ugh."
"Al, you know, I could just get you another one if you're so desperate you're licking the plate."
Al's head snapped up, and he nodded.
"Just this last one."
Ali stood up and walked over to the counter, and talked to the person at the front desk. "Hi. My squirtle would like another Meat burger please." She paid, and gave the burger to Al. Walking out of the resturaunt, Ali sat down on the bench next to a large building. Ann sat next to her, but Al, who was done with his burger, saw something else that caught his attention. Pointing at a poster (with his mouth full) he jumped up and down.
"Pokeathletes?" Ali looked at the poster. "Never heard of them." She picked up a brochore out of a pile underneath it and told Al, "We need one more pokemon to participate anyway."

As there were two pokemon rushing at James looking to eat his burger he didn't know what to do. He was full from eating his burger and his pokemon were finished as he looked at the hungry Swinub he sat in his seat and looked at the Swinub offering it the food.

He looked over and saw a trainer that owned the Swinub he started to get nervous as he thought he might have done something wrong. He tried not to stutter as he walked over grabbed the money out of his billabong wallet and put it on the counter.James had no idea what he was going to do now. He knew that his pokemon were all full of food. Plus Trikey had fit in ever since he was obtained on the ship. He looked at the girl and awaited a reply.

The longer she stood there, silent as a mouse, the louder Shadow got. She bellowed loudly and tried to wriggle free of Aussie's grasp. Soon, she started struggling with such force that Aussie could barely keep a grip on her. Squishing the unruly Swinub tighter to her chest, she maneuvered herself so that she was holding Shadow with one arm and had the other free to rummage through her bag. Searching through the pockets, she noted a muffled hoot of protest as her fingers brushed over Mimic. She tried to suppress giggles at that moment, completely forgetting the stranger in front of her. Eventually though, her hand clasped around what she was looking for. Drawing it out, Shadow's unhappy squeals only increased in volume as she spotted the pokeball. Before the little brute could escape her iron-hard grip though, Aussie pressed the button and returned the Swinub to her pokeball. Letting out a little sigh of relief, she eyed the old, scratched pokeball in her hand for a moment, palming its rough surface before returning it back to it's proper pocket.

The restaurant seemed much more quiet and intimidating with Shadow stowed away. Aussie actually suppressed the urge to cower under the stranger's gaze. This was about the time she should say something, right? Her mouth suddenly went dry, the coppery taste of fear becoming stronger and stronger by the moment. If this didn't stop soon, she thought she might explode...

At that moment she did, but not as she had suspected. Going into a whole new frame of mind, she was hit by the sudden urge to just... babble."I'm so sorry! I mean, Shadow smelled your food and I suppose she got a little excited... And then she came leaping over here and I had to chase her. I'm really, really sorry for interrupting you while you were eating. Also, name's Aussie. I meant to say sorry earlier but it came out as Sherry for some reason... So nice to meet you and... uhm..."

No doubt she would have kept going if Mimic didn't decide to pop her eyes out of her pocket and glare testily at Aussie. Although Aussie didn't speak Mimic's language, the message in her eyes was incredibly clear. 'Shut up,' that glare said. Usually she would have laughed heartily to see Mimic so put off, but at this particular moment, her embarrassment outweighed her amusement. To stop her tongue from wagging, she literally bit down on her tongue until the pain became too great. At least she’d managed to stop her babbling though, despite the slightly metallic taste beginning to suffuse her mouth, which was no doubt the result of the fact that she’d bit her tongue so hard it was bleeding.

Her face flaming red once again, she turned away, not able to look into the stranger’s face any longer. Bustling over to where she’d left her pen and notebook after getting startled by the waitress, she swiftly returned them to their respective places, the pen behind her ear and the notebook sticking out of the front of her pocket. In an effort to keep her hands busy and her mind off the stranger, she also turned back to the table and grabbed the napkins the waitress had set down on the table. Pressing them to her elbow, which had already stopped bleeding at this point, she pretended to be cleaning off her elbow, but in actuality she was merely stalling.

She dragged this out as long as she could then swiveled her head around for anything else that would serve as an excuse to distract her. Alighting on a poster outside of the restuarant she could see through the window, she pretended to scrutinize it. It had something to do with a pokeathlon. Immediately Aussie’s natural curiosity was sparked. Although she had heard of them, she’d never been to one. It would be interesting to go and observe how one of them worked. Her fingers were already itching to grab her notebook and head out the door, delighted by the idea of discovering something new. Without thinking, her mind so focused on the poster, she said offhandedly to the stranger, “Hey! That looks cool! I’ve never been to one of those. I’m going to go take a closer look…”

Striding over, completely forgetting how rude it was to leave a person behind without saying goodbye, Aussie walked up to the poster so she could read the words printed across it, completely oblivious to the other stranger next to her that was scrutinizing a brochure.

Ali read the brochure. There was a picture of a man with an afro, apparently named Hermes. Like the messenger god, right? The events seemed to be based on speed and agility, which was no problem for both Ann and Al. Unfortionatly, they would not be able to do the relay run, which you needed to ride on a pokemon. Ali wondered if they would make an exception for them, if they even entered. Hurtle dash would be easy for both of her pokemon, and Ann looked at that even approvingly as she read it. For the blindfold bike race, it seemed a bit scary, since Ali had honestly, never really been on a bike for a long time. She trusted Ann more than Al to guide her for that. The pennant capture would be fun for Al, and so would Riolu wrangle.

Another girl came up and started reading the poster. She seemed very interested, so Ali pointed at the pile of brochures. "There's a bunch of info in those, if you're interested." She went back to pondering the relay run. Hopefully, they would make an exeption to skip that, or maybe they'd lend her a ponyta or something? Or maybe, there would be some water in the course too, and she could use Al... Sighing, she put the brochure in her pocket. "Any ideas?" She asked her pokemon. They both shook their heads.

As James watched the girl walk away with her pokemon he saw she was drawed to a brochure. He watched her walk away as he saw another trainer near by. James hoped out of his chair and walked out of the restaurant with his pokemon following close behind. He walked out of the door into the sunshine of Port Barley and stayed on track walking over to the street light with the poster on it. It was detailed and it had all different types of pokemon running, jumping and doing all types of things, it was advertising for an event called "Pokeathlon". It drawed his attention and he showed his pokemon and they looked excited. He kept on reading and read that the Jockey's name was Hermes.

James sparked interest looking at the poster and his pokemon looked excited. He saw the other trainer and the girl he had just meet and with excitement said

"Wow this looks cool. Are you 2 going to compete?" as his excited face waited for the answer.

Ali finally dicided Ann would be in for the hurdle dash, and Al could do the pennant capture. That left her third pokemon...if she could get one. "Shinx!" Ali looked at Ann. "Yeah, probably should hurry up and get a third pokemon," Ali said, petting Ann. Al pushed her away. Ann pushed back, harder. Soon, they got into an all-out fight. Again. "Really, stop it," Ali sighed. "I'm going to put one of you in their pokeball." The two pokemon pointed to each other.
Then, Some other guy came to read the poster and asked her a question. "Yeah, I'm going to probably enter," Ali said. "It may be my only time, though. This is just for fun." Ann and Al looked at their new visitors. "This is Ann," she said, pointing to Ann. "And this is Al. By the way, have you entered any Pokeathlete compititions?" Then she realized something and facepalmed. "Wow, I'm rude. I forgot to ask your name!"

Aussie was startled when the stranger spoke. It didn't take long for her oppressive shyness to set in again. Only a few seconds after the girl spoke Aussie was shivering like a leaf and attempting to speak a few coherent words in reply. Failing to do that, she quickly snatched up one of the brochures the girl had pointed at instead and hastily pretended to scan it. Ignoring the younger girl standing next to her, she tried to engross herself in the pamphlet, but now that she was aware of the stranger in her midst, she found that nearly impossible to do. The brochure shuddered in her hand as her hands shook. Soon there were stains on the paper from her sweating palms.

Suddenly, as if from thin air, the boy she had just been speaking with... more like stuttering materialized, looking at the poster too. Aussie's eyes bulged in horror as she stared blankly down at the brochure, now thoroughly damp with her sweat. When he spoke to them, the meaning of his words went right through her, in one ear and out the other. Her nervousness wouldn't allow her enough lucid thought to puzzle out the meaning of them. Squinting, her forehead furrowed as she stared harder at the brochure, hoping if she concentrated enough on it all her worries would disappear. All this achieved though was a pang in her forehead as a headache began forming.

Suddenly she was distracted by an indignant hoot. Mimic popped her head out of her pocket, glaring at Aussie with her huge red eyes. Blinking, Aussie stared back, trying to make sense of what Mimic wanted. When nothing came to mind, the Hoothoot's glare turned into a savage snarl. Pointing at the restaurant with her wing, she said indignantly, "HOOT!"

A smile appeared on Aussie's face as she realized what Mimic wanted. As if to remind herself of the fact she had never ordered food, her stomach rumbled audibly. Funnily enough, Mimic's rumbled at the same time, but the sound Mimic's stomach produced was even louder than Aussie's. It reminded her of a raging lion. The idea that a Pokémon so small could make such a large sound was intensely amusing to Aussie for some reason. Dropping the brochure on the ground and forgetting the strangers for a moment, Aussie burst into hysteric laughing. Tears rolled down her cheeks just because she found this whole situation so hilarious. It took a few seconds for her laughs to dissipate, but when they did, Mimic's usually annoyed expression had become... even more annoyed frankly.

A spark of anger flickered in Mimic's eyes. Wriggling out of her pocket, she jumped and dug her claws into Aussie's shirt. Gasping in shock, Aussie watched with complete disbelief as the little Hoothoot jumped, wriggled, and struggled, her small wings flailing crazily the whole way, until she had miraculously traversed her way up to the front of her shirt onto her shoulder. Perching there, Mimic immediately started pecking at Aussie's head, taking out her frustration and annoyance on her trainer.

Mimic obviously had no intent to hurt her because the jabs weren't painful, but she didn't like to see her Pokémon so frustrated either. Plucking Mimic off her shoulder, she held the little Hoothoot in her hand, who was struggling against her grasp vainly. Apologetically she muttered to Mimic, "I'm sorry okay. I didn't mean to laugh at you."

Mimic still looked a little miffed, but she hooted softly and stopped struggling. Taking that as forgiveness, Aussie gave her Pokémon a dazzling smile and then, reaching over, gently lowered Mimic back into her pocket. Hooting once, Mimic glared at her one more time and then disappeared back into the black recesses of her adopted sanctuary. With that taken care of, Aussie remembered the strangers again. Pulse quickening, she looked over at them, wondering what they had made of her strange encounter with her Pokémon. Face flaming red with embarrassment, she struggled to say anything casual to distract the strangers from the interesting argument they had just witnessed.

Pointing at the poster, she muttered, "My Aunt joined one of those once. Had to borrow the neighbor's Gastly, Butterfree, and Mankey to have enough pokemon though. She didn't win; actually, she got last place but it was fun to watch. I don't think I could ever join one of those though... My swinub is too... fluffy... and my Hoothoot would probably just get annoyed at me for making her exercise... and I don't have enough Pokémon... and..."

Realizing she was rambling again, Aussie snapped her mouth shut, her teeth sinking into her delicate flesh of her tongue. A small whimper of pain of escaped her, but she didn’t unhinge jaws. She was terrified that if she did the words would spill out of her mouth like a broken fountain once again.

James looked at the girl and she seemed to be the talkative type, which is what James would prefer to talk to. He was introduced to her pokemon as he looked at her with his pokemon and said

"Hello, cool pokemon you have there, I'm James Stanley. I came here to Furoh from Snowpoint City were I grew up for my whole life so far. These are my three pokemon, pointing to Mudkip he said this is Muddy while Mudkip smiled with it's big mouth. Pointing to Snover he said this is Frost while he stood there with more attitude than the others. He looked at his Electrike and said and this is Trikey as he started to crawl over near James leg as he seemed to be shy. He smiled at her and said So what is your name?"

As James grabbed a brochure from the pile he saw the events that were completable in, it had events like Hurdle Dash and Pennant Capture and some of the harder ones like Riolu Wrangle and Blindfold Bike Race. He read one pokemon per event and seeing as it would be on a beach for some of the events it wouldn't suit his Snover being an Ice type pokemon. He went into a deep thinking period where he thought maybe there would be some other pokemon around the island that he might be able to capture and use. After a while he decided he was going to let Trikey do the Riolu Wrangle seeing as it was the speed of the team. He was letting Mudkip do the Hurdle Dash and Snover wasn't able to compete as James was worried it would ware him out to easy. He needed to find a new pokemon that he could use and let it become a part of the team.

As he looked up he saw the other girl and had forgotten her and he felt embarrassed, he looked at here and said

"Sorry I forgot to ask you what your name was. I saw your pokemon in the restaurant and they are cute pokemon you have. Also I noticed you were shy around me as he started to smile, he said to her it is alright you can talk to me without being shy, I am quite nervous but I love to make new friends. So would you like to be my friends? My friends I met on the ship were great but have gone there own separate ways and it would be good to start my journey off with someone else."

He took a deep breath and looked at the girls and looked away to see a gang of Crabby's and Shellder's fighting. He couldn't quite see what they were fighting over but it looked like there was something blue in the distance. He suspected that they might have been fighting over territory or that blue stone. He looked back at the girls with more of a sense of urgency and said

"I think we should do something to stop this. The boat was due to go 10 minutes ago but it hasn't gone yet. These pokemon are holding it up I think." As he said hoping they would help him.

Ali saw that the girl's brochore was wet, but didn't persue it. Suddenly, she saw a fight break out in the corner of her eye. A group of Krabby and Shelder were attacking each other, but she was too far away to see why. The screeching of the Krabby and Shelder became more shrill, and at last, Ali couldn't stand it. "I'm going to see what they're up to," Ali called, and ran over. Ann leaped off the bench and followed, with Al in tow.

By the time Ali reached the beach, the crowd of pokemon was too thick to see why they were fighting. Circling the group uselessly, trying to find an enterace, a Krabby (apparently bored of the fight) scrambled out of the group. He seemed a bit battered up, but that didn't stop the Krabby from scuttling to the garbage bin next to the Pokemon Center. Curious, Ali sneaked closer. The second the Krabby found a way to leap on the garbage bin, there was a shriek inside, punctuated by a clattering of the cap when the top of the bin flew up. A furry rabbit-like head popped out. "Eeevee?" Angry, the Krabby picked the small pokemon up by the scruff and threw her into the wall of the Pokemon Center. Not waiting for the Eevee to react, the Krabby used bubble on the poor Eevee.

Angry, Ali turned to Ann. "Let's teach that bully a lesson! Use swift!" Growling, Ann ran forward, and a stream of stars came out of her mouth. Al then tackled the Krabby to the ground. "Kraaaabby!" The crab pokemon shook Al off and scurried back to the fighting group, which was getting larger by the second. The Eevee got up and looked at Ali, Ann, and Al one at a time. "Hi," Ali said quietly. "Are you ok?" The Eevee nodded, and looked solemly at the trash can. Or rather, behind it. After an ackward silence, Ali said what was going on in her mind. "So, uh, do you want to join us? Y'know, on a journey? It'll be much better than living in a trash can." Stricken, the Eevee immediently shook her head. "Oh," Ali said, a bit disappointed. "Well then, I probably won't leave this place till the fight out there is over." She turned to leave, but at that point, Al wandered over to where the Eevee was looking before. "Eevee!?" She looked a bit frightened, sad and embarrassed all at once. Al had brought out a cracked pokeball. Ann looked at the Eevee.

"Ok, not to be nosy, but what is this?" Ann was a bit grouchy. They had stayed in this dump for long enough, and she wanted answers.
Eevee mumbled an answer.
"Speak up!"
And from there on, the Eevee blurted out her past. She had been caught in the wild by another trainer because she was rare. The trainer travled to Furoh shortly after and battled another trainer with a dark-type team. The trainer lost the battle, and she was angry at the Eevee's preformance. Angry, the trainer had thrown Eevee's pokeball away with Eevee in it. Eevee had lived next to the pokemon center for weeks, and was afraid of every trainer she came upon.
"Well," Ann said."Not all trainers are like that. Especially Ali!"
"Yeah!" exclaimed Al. "Ali isn't like that at all. It's fun traveling.

The Eevee looked at Ali and nodded. Smiling, Ali took out a pokeball, and the Eevee was enveloped in a red light. Sending the Eevee back out, she asked her. "Do you want a name?" Eevee nodded. "How about...Avva?" Smiling, Avva looked at Ann and Al, who both gave her a thumbs-up. "Let's go to the Pokemon Center to heal you up," Ali suggested. "Then we could help stop the fight." Avva raised her head with new determination, and let Ali put her, and the rest of the group, back in their pokeballs.

***

Ali came out of the Pokemon Center and sent all the pokemon out. "Let's go!" she said. Ali had checked Avva's moves in the Center. Sand attack, helping hand, tackle, tail whip, and wish. "Ok," Ali said. "Try working as a team. We're already outnumbered, but if we make them act seperatly, we can bring them down one-by-one, or at least make them go back and stop fighting." The team nodded. "Ann, Swift! Al, bubble! Avva, sand attack!"
Ann's swift and Al's bubble combined and shot at the group, while Avva kicked sand at the nearest Shelder.

A small but nervous smile coalesced Aussie's face. It was sweet of the kid to address her shyness and all, but it certainly didn't alleviate all of it. His friendly attitude was endearing and charming though. She felt herself loosen up somewhat, even though there was still a big knot of tension in her belly. When he started talking about the Pokémon on the beach though, her gaze instantly shifted in the direction that the boy was looking. Silently appraising the situation, her curiosity and hunger to learn consumed her. Just what was going on over there? Every fiber of her being yearned to know.

Distracted by her urge to investigate, she forgot completely about the strangers. Because she was so focused on her goal, she didn't notice the other girl head off toward the commotion on the beach even. With single-minded intensity, she headed off toward the Pokémon, not even bothering to explain her abrupt exit to the young boy. It might be rude, but at that moment her curiosity overruled any sense of decent manners. Leaving the boy standing utterly alone, she stalked closer and closer to the scene, getting more excited by what she observed as she came closer.

When she was close enough to get a good view of the Pokémon, she slipped her notebook out of her pocket, grabbed the pen out from behind her ear, and started scribbling frantically. It was only a matter of seconds before her notebook started to become crammed with her messy, illegible handwriting. Her eyes widened with wonder and excitement as she observed what appeared to be a battle. Everything seemed miraculous and wonderful to her, even the simplest things like a jagged scar on a Krabby's skin. That was the joy of observing and learning.

It didn't take her long to deduce what they were fighting over. The blue stone was obviously a water stone. What did rouse her curiosity was why a group of Krabby would even want one. It made sense for the Shellders because they evolved by using water stones, but as far as she remembered, Krabbys evolved by growing stronger and leveling up. Consumed by this strange fact, she observed the scene with even more zeal in an attempt to puzzle out some small clue that might provide an answer. A frown tugged at the corner of her mouth when no obvious explanation presented itself. Her note-taking became even more furious as she took down even the minutest details. One never knew what small thing might be the key to solve a mystery.

She was so focused on the scene playing out before her eyes, she didn't notice she was steadily shifting closer to get an even better vantage point. It wasn't until a Krabbby turned around and used bubble right in her face that she realized that perhaps she had gotten a little too close. Gasping in shock as the water hit her, Aussie was pushed to the ground by the force of the attack and the mere fact that she was too surprised by the chill of the ice-cold water to try and keep a proper footing. Hitting the ground with a solid thump, she blinked in surprise as she tried to regain her wits. The first thought that came to her mind was, 'Now I know what it's like to be hit by an attack.' She was only thankful it hadn't been something more dangerous such as ember or thundershock. Humans could survive a blast of cold water but those others would be devastating.

Standing up, she scuttled away before the Krabby decided to attack her again. When she was a safe distance away, she paused and realized she was soaked to the bone. Her clothes sloshed with every step and clung to her like a second skin. Sighing discontentedly, she wondered how in the world she would manage to dry herself off. That thought gave way to an even more horrible revelation though. Her notebook was ruined. The pages had been reduced to a pulpy mush and the green ink leaked out of the paper, staining her skin. Eyes bulging, she felt a whimper rise up in her throat. So much had been lost: not only the observations for this battle but weeks worth of notes, poems, and stories. A horrid, sinking feeling clutched at her gut.

Dropping the mess that used to be her notebook on the ground, Aussie wiped the hair that was plastered to her forehead out of her eyes. Without thinking, she reached for her bag, preparing to grab Shadow's pokeball. That Krabby had ruined her notebook. It would pay.

Al rushed up to a nearby krabby and used bubble in its face. "Yeah, you don't mess with us!" He leaped on a shelder and grabbed another, swinging it like a bat at anyone that dared pass. The shelder didn't think that was amusing, and Al soon found himself on the ground, being trambled by the angry shelder's kin. Growling, he leaped back up and tackled a shelder...right into Ann.
~~~
Ann was doing fine, actually. She leered at a particulary large krabby. He seemed to back off for a minute, which gave her enough time to tackle him. After that, she used swift on a group of pokemon, the golden stars stopping or at least delaying them. Suddenly, a shelder crashed into her. Ann didn't exactly go head-over-heels, but it hurt her. And she was mad. Whipping back her head, she turned full rage on Al. "What was that for?!"
"Hey, just chill. I was a-
This was cut off by a krabby slamming Al into the air...and down. Ann rushed over to avenge in his stead.
~~~
Avva hurredly tackled a shelder and finished him off with another tackle. If she learned one thing living on the streets, it was finish what you start. So, she didn't do what the other two were doing, randomly attacking any pokemon in their way. She used tail whip on a krabby then finished it off in a similar manner. Avva kept fighting till her seventh pokemon was under her paw. When is this fight going to end?
~~~
Ali tried to avoid the pokemon, not being able to battle, as a human and all. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Aussie, dripping wet, and radiating anger. Oooooooooh boy. That poor krabby.
