This is kind of a debate, but not really, because Wizard Magazine is pure joke. I can prove it with their list of the greatest villians of all time.

Click me. (click to showhide)

No Apocalypse or Vulcan? Dark Phoenix only at 38? Dr. Doom beating out, like, everyone?
THE JOKER AT #1?
And why is Wormer, Rooney, Mr. Burns, Stewie, Sideshow Bob, and Roddy Piper on the list? None of them are true villians, but comic relief villians. Half of them never even killed anyone, compared to...let's see. Freddy, Jason, Aliens, Predator, Hannibal, and so on? Someone please explain this list.

The Joker was pretty ruthless, I'd agree he should be pretty high up on the list, but I don't agree some of the others should be there.

Also, needs more Sylar from Heroes and Hitler.

This list is from July '06. I don't think Heroes was out then.

Honestly, Hitler was so sensationalized in fiction that people debate whether he should be on the list.

As I recall, they made this list after the public voted on it. I remember seeing this at the time it was published, having voted myself.

The Joker makes sense... the guy did once murder a bus load of boy scouts and bake their remains into cookies, which he then sold to people who didn't know and who quite happily ate them. Obviously it depends on whether or not you think of the camp Joker seen in the 60s spoof TV series and Tim Burton's original 1989 movie, or whether you think of the very scary, evil, ruthless Joker from the comic books. If you do only really remember the camp one because you don't read the Batman comics or something, make sure you see The Dark Knight when it comes into cinemas in July, as they're finally showing him on the screen the way he's meant to be.

But yeah, if you want to complain to anyone, complain at the people who voted in the thing.

I'm amazed that the Illithid race in DnD ain't on that list. Also, Beholder should be in a "higher" position, cause' of their lazorz of death.

Yeah I've read a bunch of the older comics back when I used to go to the Book Mobile regularly and grabbed a bunch of Batman and Spiderman comics and The Joker was actually a pretty awesome and scary villain. I can't wait to see The Dark Knight as well as Iron Man, but that's off-topic.

Well for a start, Kefka should be there instead of Sephiroth, Gollum and Sauron can also get lost- Morgoth is better and on a much grander scale as far as Tolkien goes.

I don't know much about Marvel comics but from what I've seen of the Joker he's awesome and deserves his place there.

Oh, and I agree with all your statements about comedy villains not belonging there. Well, apart from Mr. Burns, but I just love him (don't ask).

The Joker is DC Comics, not Marvel, heh.

Dude...Gollum definatly deserves his place. Near the beginning of the books, it's heavily implied that Gollum steals and eats babies. There's not much worse than that. irritated.gif

Well, I admit he's got much more evil character than the faceless figures of Morgoth or Sauron but really in Middle-Earth Morgoth represents all evil, and Gollum was just a Hobbit turned evil by the allure of the ring, which is in effect Sauron himself.
