Glowing Pokémon, If it's not Shiny, why is it glowing? |

Why do some Pokémon glow when they're sent out? What is the meaning?
I am NOT talking about the shiny stars for a Shiny. I have a Shiny. I know the difference. Example: I always knew back in Emerald that Milotic glowed blue when it was sent out, and while it was never explained, I figured it was individual. I know that is glows in Pearl, too. Now I was playing SS today and I noticed my Magcargo does the same. As far as I can recall at the moment, Feebas does not glow, and Slugma doesn't, so why are its evolutions deemed worthy? Is it a secret code meaning something significant, like completed EV's? It it just an extra sprite frame addition? If so, why do some have it and not all? As you can tell, I'm a little puzzled. Bulbapedia had nothing to say. Animation of Milotic flashing blue for reference. Magcargo flashes red, but I cant's find it's animation on a site to post here for you. If anyone does know the "code", please explain it, and if you'd be so kind to reveal which other Pokémon might glow? I never noticed it until I realized Magcargo does too, and now my curiosity is piqued. -------------------- Relevant things I simply must include here. (click to show ) Do not bemoan what day it is. Revel in the fact it is today. Isn't that enough? |

I think it's just part of the animation and to make it look flashy... If every pokemon did that, it would lose its uniqueness.

Yes, I agree, but why do only 2 out of 493 flash?
Milotic is quite fragile, and despite Magcargo being a personal favourite, it's slow and has many weaknesses. What makes them so 'special'? I'm just trying to be logical about this. (I'm not acknowledging more than 493 until we have final dex numbers) -------------------- Relevant things I simply must include here. (click to show ) Do not bemoan what day it is. I believe a lot of Electric Pokemon glow Yellow. Also, Magmortar releases a blob of fire.
All of these are absent when looking through your party, but are there during a battle. I doubt they have any significance. -------------------- |

I have a Slugma in Emerald that glows red when I send him out, as well as a Charizard that does the same. I also have a Raichu that flashes yellow. I always thought that it was because certain Pokemon were more "in tune" with their element than others.

there isnt a "coding" or anything special about these "flashes".. its just part of the animation. back when i was a n00b playing Ruby, i noticed that my Swampert glowed blue, but no other pokemon did. i figured it did that because it was my first pkemon, so when Steven from the elite four sent out his Milotic, and it glowed blue, i actually thought that it was his first pokemon, lol.
but no, theres nothing unique about this. its just simply part of the animation, as far as im concerned. and those arent the only 2 pokemon that do that. -------------------- |

This is nothing special. This is part of the sprite. I have a Blaziken that does this, a Sceptile that does this, and a Swampert that does this. Completely normal.

I think it has to do with certain pokemon of a type. Swampert and Milotic glow blue (water types) and Magcargo and Blaziken glow red (fire types). Why this doesn't apply to grass types or some other final evolution pokemon I can't answer, but that's my theory.

I know Rotom glows yellow when you send it out, as does Swampert. My shiny Charizard doesn't glow though... *sad*

Whichever game let you add decorations to your ball capsules, every once in a while you'd come across a rare effect that you could add that does what you are suggesting. No idea what it was called, but they were cool. Just having confetti was lame.

My Lapras glows but once I moved it to Platinum it doesn't anymore. ):
I'd love to see a Glaceon be able to do that. o: -------------------- |
