this is a real method that requires patience, and will not work with pokemon that do not make eggs (Legends)
I just found out about this recently and I found that this should be shared more with people. If you don't care about the history of this method, skip this section On December 4, 2007. Director of the board of Gamefreak, Jijichi Masuda said in his "Direcor's Column" entry No. 118 that "rare colored Pokemon's Egg can be found little easier" by using the GTS. A while later, the meaning of this was discovered. The Masuda Method, as it was called, is a way to increase your chances of hatching a Shiny Pokemon from 1/8192 to 1/2048. Here's how it works First, you must have a Pokemon from a game with a different language from your game. (ie. if your game is in English, then a pokemon from Japanese/German/ect. game) Second, you must have a Pokemon that is from your language that can produce eggs with your foreign Pokemon. Next, put the two of them in the Daycare. Finally, start hatching eggs. Simple, right? How about an example? For this example, Let's say that you want a Shiny Eevee (for simplicity, we will just use two Eevees). If you put an Eevee that you traded from your friend who has a Japanese version of the game with an Eevee that you caught on your German version. When they start making eggs, it's time to start hatching. I usually carry as many eggs as I can with a pokemon that has either the Magma Armor or Flame Body ability, since those abilities will cut the time to hatch the egg in half. This will work with any 4th Generation game language as long as one of the two Pokemon is from a different language. If you want to get a lot of different Shiny Pokemon with this method, having a Ditto from another lanuage so you can breed it with all the other Pokemon (other than Legendaries). I hope this helps everyone who reads this. -------------------- A wise Pyro once said: Build a man a fire, and you will keep him warm for the night. I've been trying this for WEEKS XD
I have a female Jolteon (European) and a Japanaese Arbok. Plenty of eggs, no shinies yet XD (true the chance is still slim so I keep trying). -------------------- Uxie Anitarig Daisuke Weasley Sceptile Rika |

Rly? That's awesome, What if it's from a different language but you evolved it already (I had a Japanese Eevee but i already evolved it into a Jolteon)

I don't think evolving the Pokemon affects it, considering that even though the name changes, it's still from a foreign owner.
I was going to try this to get a Shiny Onix sometime ago, but never got around to it since I found one up for trade. I still might try this for a shiny starter Pokemon sometime, but I'm not sure which. Possibly Treecko. -------------------- [align=center]

I bred 30 Tauros eggs this afternoon. My main Tauros is Japanese and my ditto is american. None of them were shiny. I saw the odds after I bred them, I though it said 1 in 200, not 2000. Is there any special trick?

So what you're saying is that instead of a .0000001% chance, it's a .000001% chance?
Doesn't sound worth it imo. I'll try it if I ever get bored, but that'll be a while since not only is it time consuming to hatch eggs, but it's frustrating to figure out HOW you're ever going to get anough room in your box without releasing any valuable pokemon. I already have a shiny tho. A Tentacruel. I was training my Gengar when a shiny tentacruel popped up. It sounds like a great trick, it cuts the percentage in half...but for my tastes, 1/2000 is STILL an extremely horrible percentage. -------------------- space...spacespace...wanna go to space...I'm in space...are we in space...I wanna into space, are you space? Actually, the odds go from .01% to .04%, quadrupling your chanses. You are still going agianst the odds, but at least the odds are much better.
on a different note. I finally hatched my first Shiny Eevee. after 260 Eevees without using this method and not hatching any, I was able to hatch one after 43 eggs using this method. YAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!! -------------------- A wise Pyro once said: Build a man a fire, and you will keep him warm for the night. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life.

Interesting... But I still like the RNG exploiting better. Yes, it is less moral, but it's surefire when you've done it correctly.
However, this is still rather interesting. Just out of curiosity, where did you glean this information from? -------------------- |

Sounds interesting, but I think chaining has better odds if you do it right.

Just out of curiosity, where did you glean this information from? One of the game creators (don't ask his specific job, Lacesso stoopid) had a blog somewhere about his day to day life and shizzle. He put the information on his blog. -------------------- Pokédex completion: 493/493 Services I can perform for free! (click to show ) People who have used my services on these forums! Normal chance of getting a shiny 1 in 8,192. With masuda method it's 1 in 2,048
cutting it by 75%. I have tried but no luck yet -------------------- |

Yes, I've heard this before! Trying for a shiney Torchic. No luck yet. lol
Is it true that there's a higher chance if your Ditto's shiney? (Or if one of the parents is.) Cuz I have a hacked shiney Ditto that my friend gave me on my FR years ago, and I just recently transferred it to my Diamond. I was breeding it with my Japanese Torchic. Would it be better to continue with this, or switch out Ditto for one of my own American Torchic? -------------------- |

Interesting. I've done lots of mass-breedings for some purpose or another. I may try this to get my Shiny Umbreon someday.
