A Guide To Introduction Threads

An introduction thread is a crucial part of joining a new forum. It helps you to integrate yourself within the community, and pick up little helps and tips about forum life here. It can often be a difficult thing writing your first post and introducing yourself to strangers, so this guide is here to help, with lots of suggestions about things to say so you end up with more than a simple, ‘hi, I’m new’.

An introduction thread is a very personal thing, and as such there’s no formula or right way of doing it. What you put in is completely up to you. These are some ideas to help you get going. Obviously, only put in what you feel comfortable saying. Some people are more private than others, and it’s perfectly alright if you don’t want to share certain things with a bunch of strangers on the internet.

Your Name: This is a good way to start. Breaks the ice and even though it doesn’t say much, you’ll often find that once you’ve written something down it will be much easier to write more. You could talk about why you chose that name.

Do you like Pokémon? Before GPX+, this was a redundant question, but now we are getting members who simply love click-ables, whether they’re Pokémon related or not. If you’re not into Pokémon, then what other stuff are you into, and if you are, how did you first get into it, who’s your favourite Pokémon, which games do you have. Plenty to talk about here

Interests/Hobbies: What do you enjoy doing out in the real world. Do you play football, are you in a band. Everyone likes something, and if people know what you like, you’ll be a lot easier to talk to.

Where Are You From: Might be a bit too personal for some people, but it’s a interesting thing to talk to people about.

Any Questions: An introduction thread is a really good place to ask any questions you might have about the forums or GPX+. Don’t worry if you thing they sound stupid. It’s far better to ask than to try and guess and making a fool out of yourself.

Don’t Ask People To Click Your Eggs: There is a reason for there being no click my egg threads, and asking people to click your eggs in your introduction thread just makes you look stupid.

Reply To Your Welcomes: If people have taken the time to welcome you, have the decency to thank them, especially if they’ve answered any questions you may have had.

Welcoming New Members:
Welcoming a new member is a very nice thing to do, but make sure you give them a proper welcome. Try to say more than just ‘welcome to the forums’. If they’ve got a similar interest to you, maybe say something about that. If they haven’t really said anything in their introduction, then ask them a few questions. And whatever you do, don’t tell them that you’ve clicked their eggs. They’ll be able to see on their interactions box, and this is just as bad as asking for clicks
