Alright, as you may or may not know, the legendary birds show up as wandering Pokemon in Platinum (the kind that flee as soon as they are able.)
I have a level 64 Haunter that knows Mean Look, however Mean Look only works if he's in battle, and this is where the problem comes in, because his sp. def sucks and all of the birds just murder him. I have a Roselia who is level 62 and knows Grasswhistle, but the birds always flee before I can use it. Anyone have a better Pokemon or move I can use, or just a general strategy? Just for reference: Zapdos: No damage Articuno: Paralyzed, minor damage Moltres: Very little HP left. Thanks in advance! This post has been edited by Hikarii: Apr 15 2009, 05:24 PM |

Well, for the Haunter, try making him hold a Quick Claw, so then he can use Mean Look before the birds attack. If his speed needs to go up, try using Carbos on him. For his sp. def, use zinc. o: These can all be found in the Veilstone Department Store, but they're a little pricey.
For the Roserade, try and get its speed up, and again, try making it hold the Quick Claw. (Use Carbos xD) Or, you could use a bunch of quick balls, you'd need a lot of them though. This post has been edited by Shortie: Apr 15 2009, 05:33 PM -------------------- |

Thanks for responding shortie. I actually did use several Carbos and Zinc on my Haunter, so he is fast now, but a flamethrower/ice beam/discharge from any of the birds still drop him down to less than half HP. I'm going to try using some carbos on Roselia, she'll be useful in catching Zapdos at least.
Keep the ideas coming guys, don't be shy. =D |

I haven't gotten to the birds in Platnium yet, but my basic strategy is to train up my Crobat and teach it Mean Look, since Crobat is fast to begin with, pumping him up with vitamins should get his stats high enough to attack before the birds.
it worked for me in diamond for cresselia and mesprit also I am still very very careful and use moves like false swipe to make sure I don't kill them. -------------------- |

missmagius (spelling) is what I used usally. also area trap if you can get a diglet. or just give them paralyze and 1 HP with a really fast pokemon, weavile with false swipes works. Then its quickball city.

Birds/levitators aren't even affected by arena trap.

Right now I'm training my Wobbuffet to catch them. It's Shadow Tag ability keeps them from fleeing!

I just weaken them a throw thousands of quick balls.
It's fast and easier for me to buy quick balls than to train a poké for that one thing. -------------------- |
