Chinese Zodiac controls the Fire Starter-Looks?

Well a friend of mine told me about this theory on the bus on my way to school, and it actually made sense!

He told me that all fire-type starters are based upon one of the Chinese Zodiac's which are:
Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Boar, Rat, Ox, Tiger and Hare.

If we convert this to starter's we'd have something about this:
1st Generation => Dragon: Chamander (Charizard)
2nd Generation => Rat: Cyndaquil (Typhlosion)
3rd Generation => Rooster (chicken): Torchic (Blaziken)
4th Generation => Monkey: Chimchar (Monferno)
5th Generation => Boar: Tepig (Emboar)
6th Generation => Dog: Fennekin (???)

Yes, I know Fennekin is obviously a fox, but give it a second look and who knows... it might have a dog-like evolution?

Anyway, if we see that there are already six starters who match up with the Chinese zodiac, each respectively in their own generation, there might be a chance that GAMEFREAK will keep on developing yet six other new Generations of Pokémon before stopping. And, if my friend's information is correct, they will stop after the 12th generation.

What do you find of this theory? Is this agreeable or just utter rubbish?

To start this discussion: I do know that the entire zodiac is already present throughout the Pokémon Series, but I'm fond of this theory too!

I can see the fire starters resembling zodiac symbols (cyndaquil is a stretch; more echidna than rat). However, I cannot see this stopping them from making pokemon games. When they run out of zodiac symbols, Game Freak will find something else to base fire starters on. They will stop making pokemon games when the games stop making money.

Weird... I never noticed. I personally find it a bit creative, but I don't think that should rule over what type of creature the Pokemon creators should use. But, it does give a good outline, I guess.

I dare say that is an interesting observation. It may as well be what they were going for.

If they're doing it like that then fine with me. Just stop making them all Fire/Fighting types :l

This. I haven't touched a Fire Starter since Gen. 2 because of this. (There are only a handful of Fighting types I like.)

They better make the Fire Snake epic as hell, because that's my Zodiac symbol. >:V

Heck, the remaining animals (Tiger, Goat, Rabbit, Snake, Horse, Ox) are all interesting, cool animals that I've been begging for them to use/revisit. Unfortunately, though, they all -with the exception of the snake- lend themselves fairly well to being part Fighting. :(

There's no rule saying they have to stop at Gen 12. I hope they continue, to be honest. They can just draw thematic inspiration from elsewhere, like basing all the Water starters on the other Zodiac or something.

It was confirmed somewhere a while ago (around Gen 4's time) that the Zodiac Fire starter thing was intentional, I just can't remember where. Also, is there a fox in Journey to the West? If so, Fennekin is defo gonna be Fire/Fighting. The Fire/Fighting starters are based on characters from the story.

I guess I should be glad I was born a Dragon. I won't have to have my symbol disgraced. Plus, Zards tend to get overrated. Does that mean I'm overrated?

This makes a staggering amount of sense. I hope the fire Ox is cool, then, because that's my sign.
And on the topic of fire/fighting starters: I'm theorizing Fennekin to be Fire/Psychic because there's a screenshot of it apparently using a psychic-type move. Now before you get excited, it was battling a Kirlia, so it may have been being attacked, since the move's effect was covering the model of the Pokemon I'm not sure completely. It would also make sense to make Froakie part Fighting and Chespin part Dark (Chespin's color scheme also suggests this).
Anyway, that's enough out of me. I'm still choosing Froakie, though, because it's cute. I love frog Pokemon.

Well, I'm just hoping this theory is't going to stop them from making other pokémon games though. It'd be a shame and the money-part Togee talked about is certainly a more-then-decent argument to bust my theory.

Furthermore, I'm quite glad that my Zodiac (boar) won't be messed with either, I'm quite glad with Emboar's appearance xp

I do wonder how the pokémon will look like if they reach generation 13 then... I mean, where are they going to find their inspiration?

I'm vastly curious about what they'll come up with for mine, the rabbit. o3o
