This is a new type of event, but it will run automatically every week. The idea is similar to the Bug Catching Contest from the Johto games, only it won't always be limited to Bug-type Pokémon. This week, to start off with, will actually be Bug-types.

Every week, after Monday night's reset, the event will activate itself and will choose a random Pokémon type. Whatever type it chooses, that's the type that everyone has to hunt for. Once you think you have a good one, you will use the Options drop-down to move it to your Poké Hunt Entry. You can only have one submission, though you can pay with points to withdraw your entry so that you can submit another.

The page itself outlines the event a little more, including what factors to take into consideration when deciding which Pokémon to submit, as well as some ranking information. I suggest you read it, before people start trying to submit Pokémon obtained before the event started.

Normally, the event will automatically end on Thursday (after reset Wednesday night), but since this is the first time, the judging period will run a little longer on Thursday so that we can crunch some numbers with the new data received. However, the event (at least, the submission period) will still end after reset on Wednesday night.

Whenever the event is active, you will see the new Poké Ball image notification on the opposite side of your notification bar. Click it to go to the event page.

More explanation on the rankings. There won't be one person in 1st, one in 2nd, etc. Everyone has a chance to rank in 1st, so long as they all submit a Pokémon with enough good qualities.

UPDATE: Prizes have been handed out and, if you refresh your Pokétch, you'll see a new popup saying that your Pokémon has returned, what place it ranked, and what type of prize you got. It will also allow (and require that) you move it to a new location.

Tomorrow, I will be adding stats for how many times you've placed in rank 1, rank 2, and rank 3, and will display on the Pokémon info pages what place they ranked (if they were ever in a contest).

Also, I may put up a page for contest history, such as what type it was, how many entries there were, and how many people were in each rank. Not sure if it'll extend further than that though (displaying what users); probably not.

The event page (http://gpxplus.net/poke_hunt) when inactive will display when the next event will be held, which is always the next Tuesday.

UPDATE: Hunt History and your personal stats for number of times placed in each rank have been added to the Poké Hunt page. The personal stats have also been added to the Stats tab on your Pokétch and User pages. I may add stats to the actual Stats page, under Users (Misc), but I haven't decided yet.

UPDATE #3: As indicated in the Minor Updates thread, starting with this week's hunt, a new prize system will be used in these hunts, as well as site-wide shiny hunts. This will be unveiled shortly after the end of tonight's hunt, yup yup.

Edit: Ah so if there is a tie they will get the same prize according to their rank, of course.

Hm, not really. Think of it like this (just a scenario):

Say each Pokémon earns points based on its qualities. Between 500 and 400, 1st. Between 400 and 300, 2nd. Between 300 and 200, 3rd.

It won't be exactly those numbers, just an example. Not really having to do with tying. This isn't really a member-competition event, unless you want to compete for stats (number of times placed in 1st or something).

You cannot use a non-Bug-type or a Pokémon you've already had.

Pineco is a bug

If you try moving a pokemon on the mobile site, it will have a spot called undefined. Just guessing that it comes from here.
