I looked at the FAQ and help section but there doesn't seem to be any clear answer. When it comes to shiny hunting are the chances of hatching a shiny come from the number of eggs bred or eggs hatched? I was under the impression that it comes from the number of eggs bred since the daycare can tell you if your Pokemon bred a shiny egg.

I'm not sure I understand your question.

What matters in a shiny hunt, the number of eggs you hatched or the number of offspring? When you breed novelties while having the Novel Power active, you are guaranteed a novelty egg. It says so when you check the Daycare Offspring tag on the main page. Does that apply to when you are shiny hunting, as in will the Daycare Offspring inform you that one of the eggs your Pokemon bred is a shiny?

Each egg has a separate chance of being shiny. There's not a quota of 1 shiny per X eggs hatched or per X eggs bred. You can have long streaks of either or both with no shiny, or you can get several shinies very quickly.

As for your other question,

will the Daycare Offspring inform you that one of the eggs your Pokemon bred is a shiny?

Yes, each couple will list "X shinies" in the same way that it lists "X novelties." But this is only after the eggs have hatched, afaik.

....And just to clear up this misconception,

since the daycare can tell you if your Pokemon bred a shiny egg.

No, it can't.

You mean only after the eggs have been hatched? So there's a chance I would lose the egg that had the shiny? I was checking the offspring to see if there was a shiny before I donated the eggs.

Thank you all for the help. Now I see why other users have such a hard time shiny hunting.
