I started another run of Death of the World and I got to the task where you raise 5 Pokemon to level 100. I've done this task a few times before, but in my previous experience, I remember Lapras and Tropius reaching level 100 around the same time since they need the same amount of EXP for each level (as opposed to the others which have smaller EXP requirements, obvs).

However I noticed that despite both Lapras and Tropius having 414 and 403 interactions (at time of writing this) respectively, Lapras is only at Lv 83 while Tropius is at 98. Both eggs were hatched at the exact same time, and neither 'mon has Pokerus.

Why is there a level difference if they gain levels at the same rate and had roughly the same number of interactions? Am I just totally forgetting a variable here? (Entirely possible lol)

Screenshots since they'll all probably be out of my party by tomorrow anyway haha

Assuming they got roughly the same number of interactions, I'd think it's because the amount of EXP a pokemon gains isn't fixed. Due to the high weekend multis the EXP variation will multiply with it. I guess Lapras just got unlucky.

Each interaction gives a slightly variable amount of EXP, so it's possible your Lapras got an unusually large number of low rolls and/or your Tropius got an unusually large number of high rolls.

Hm, guess I was just lucky/unlucky then. Alright, thank you! I didn't realize the exp gains from each click would vary that much but I guess it makes sense for a 3x multiplier day.
