Lizzie's Lovlies

Lizzie's Riolu yelped, alerting her of some incoming snow. The call came too late, and before she knew it she was buried in show. Her Charmander was exhausted, as with Riolu, who was not moving. Lizzie did not know what her Riolu was up to, but she did sense panic, and a lot of it. Maybe she was the one panicking, or maybe it was her Riolu, frozen with fear. Maybe, it was something else, someone or something calling for help? Lizzie did not know, but she did know that she would not be able to make it with her pokemon in the condition that they were in. She made sure that her final wish was for everybody to get out of the snow safely.

The moment she thought of it, she felt a sudden warmth. Everything was on fire. The snow was melting. Nobody was hurt. Riolu looked around in awe, and instinctively looked up. Lizzie looked up too, and did not believe her eyes. A bird, with rainbow wings. She thought it looked so familiar, and yet, so new. Where had she seen the bird before? The 'possessed robot room'? Either way, she was sure of one thing, no ordinary pokemon could have melted all that snow, or vaporized it, as there was no water to be seen. Lizzie watched Ho-oh blast Castle Vonmoto, assisting in its clean-up. She wondered why it would bother helping the group of trainers, especially when its own life could be put in danger. When Riolu hugged her leg, she understood. Maybe it found happiness in helping others, just like her Riolu.

"THANK YOU!" Riolu called out, as Ho-oh flew off. Riolu knew that she was thanking the great bird on the behalf of her trainer, who was yelling the same thing in silence, as if she was trying (and failing) to telepathically send her thanks. Ho-oh showed no sign of understanding, but Riolu was sure the message got across. She wasn't the only one thanking Ho-oh, after all.

After a few moments of staring into the distance, Lizzie felt dazed. She could not believe that she actually saw something so magnificent. If only she had something to remember it by... Riolu prodded her leg just as she finished her thought. It pointed towards the ground, where a single feather lay. Lizzie picked it up and inspected it. It was definitely from Ho-oh, Lizzie could tell because of the colour, and the tiny rainbow that could be seen if the light hit it just right. Lizzie decided to put it in her pocket temporarily. Maybe she could make it into a charm when she found the right stuff.

One of the trainers was gathering everyone over for a picture. Lizzie was not too comfortable with having her picture taken, but it could be worse, since she was not the only one in the picture. She recognized Tuesday, and gave her a small smile of thanks when she was not looking.

"Come on Riolu." Riolu jumped onto Lizzie's shoulders. Lizzie made sure to wait until she could feel her Riolu's weight before heading to the spot where everyone was gathering for the picture. She could not manage a smile, but she thought the hope-filled look she had from seeing the legendary bird would be good enough.

And a Golurk

Lonnie looked upon all the people gathering into the helicopters, thinking of how close they were to disaster. It took intervention from a higher being to save them, but would that always be the case? And what would happen next? By saving them, Ho-Oh had revealed himself to the world. With Team Deception back on the rise, their savior could be turned into a weapon. Was the beginning of a terrible chain of events?

As he pondered the future, Douken interrupted his train of thought, expressing his thanks to the host.

“Of course,” Lonnie replied, “but remember what you’ve learned here. It will benefit you in your travels. Now go! Everyone is getting a picture taken.”
---------------------------------------------------------------

As everyone came together to get organized, Pan turned around towards Tuesday.

“I don’t know how I can send you letters, but I’ll certainly try and keep in touch. I have a blog, so you can look me up on the Web,” Pan reassured the young girl. “And who knows, if I find something of interest, I just might need another pair of eyes to look it over.”

She winked at Tuesday, keeping hopes alive that a second meeting wouldn’t be out of question. Pan then nudged her forward to get ready for the picture. After a few adjustments and setting the timer, she rushed over to join the rest of her friends, a giant smile stretching across her face.

*CLICK*

The picture came out beautifully, a snapshot of the new friends everyone made. Before everyone made for departure, Lonnie approached the group.

“Thank you all for coming,” Lonnie began. “I know the events here were not expected and certainly exciting, but please refrain from telling others of our legendary friend. I fear certain people will catch wind of Ho-Oh’s existence. To return the favor, we must do all we can to keep Ho-Oh our secret, to keep him safe.”

He then withdrew his rainbow feather, holding it up for all to see.

“This isn’t a mere souvenir; it is a physical representation of our mutual friendship and our vow of silence. Remember the things you have learned here, and don’t hesitate to help a fellow trainer in need.”

“Alone, you are mighty. But together, you are invincible. Good luck on your adventures.”

Lonnie waved a final goodbye to his guests before heading off to his own copter. Pan quickly embraced both Tuesday and Meiko together, whispering into Meiko’s ear.

“I told you about me and Darryn. I expect you to return to return the favor,” she said, clearly referring to her continuing relationship with Jaima. Speaking of which, Jaima approached her just as she was leaving the other two.

“Hey, take care of those two,” Pan said. “I’m going to be looking for them, so I’d hate to find out something happened.” A friendly hug to the side ended the conversation…for now.

“As for you,” Pan said, closing in on Darryn, “you’re going to escort me to my ride and tell me where you’re headed next.” She held out her arm, awaiting her old friend to take it.

“Shall we?”

Daniel recovered enough to get up and run around with the other trainers and to pick up and examine the beautiful rainbow feather that had fallen nearby. He touched it reverently, even held it briefly to his chest before safely storing it away. After the fun and pictures, Lonnie asked the group to keep this encounter with Ho-oh a secret. This request felt both impossible and delightful to Daniel. He wanted to tell his family and everyone that he knew about Ho-oh and show them this rainbow feather, but he knew that if he kept it a secret, he would not only be protecting the legendary bird that had saved him and all of his friends but he would have that secret to bind them all together. If ever anyone in this group were to meet again, they would lock eyes and know even if they could not speak of the experience aloud. That feeling of being exclusively "in the know" was far more precious to Daniel than bragging rights.

"Oh! Jaima, Malcolm, Douken, come here you guys! We need to at least exchange numbers before we leave. After all, you guys wouldn't believe what me and Malcolm went through trying to get out of that castle and I bet you two had an experience that was just as awesome. We'll need to at least email and hear what everyone went through. Plus, I want to send everyone this picture. It might just be the cutest thing we saw today." Daniel tried to catch Jaima before he ran off with his girlfriend and his other friends.

He had his cell phone out, miraculously still working after being buried in snow. The picture he was talking about was, of course, the one that he'd taken of Malcolm's Pichu while she was happily rowing along in her mixing bowl boat. Daniel figured that the picture held even greater value now that Pichu had evolved into Pikachu. Maybe Malcolm could use it to embarass her whenever boyfriends came to visit or something.

Jaima waited patiently through the picture. Taking pictures was not one of his favorite activities, but he'd learned long ago to endure it, and he liked having the end result around. His mind swam, however, the events already blurring in his excitement, the older ones pushed to the rear in favor of the experience with Ho-oh, which he, and Meiko, would always have a reminder of. As they'd walked to where the camera was being set up, Jaima had plucked the feather from Meiko's hand and, before she could protest, set it behind her right ear.

The smile she'd given him was more than worth it.

He watched Pan hug Tuesday, then Meiko, then it was his turn. Smiling, he agreed that, of course, he was going to take care of Meiko, and she'd better take care of herself. Before she turned to Darryn, he winked at her. "If you do decide to write a letter, don't be surprised if a green swellow with feathers that look like a vest comes to get it. And let him have it; he's never failed to deliver a letter where it needs to go."

Meiko gave a flash of a wicked grin. "His name is Mr. Postman."

Jaima laughed as he went to see what Daniel wanted, and exchanged numbers, storing them on his pokegear. This, to him, was the sign of friendshops gained: the more filled out one's pokegear was, the more friends one could boast.

Mercury, as Meiko to give Pan my 'gear number, please...

Before heading back to the copter that would take Darryn, Meiko, Reilly, Tuesday, and himself back to Petropolis, he put a hand on Douken's shoulder.

"I just wanted to tell you, Sota-san, it was an honor battling alongside you. You did well against that Ursaring." With a nod, he walked back to the copter, helping Meiko and Tuesday in, and he and Reilly waited for Darryn.

"HEY SPARKLEBRITCHES," shouted Reilly. "We haven't got all day, you can tell her how pretty you are in an e-mail!"

Jaima chuckled, rolling his eyes. "In the copter, you."

Before Jaima headed off to his other comrades, he smiled, saying, "Thanks, but I do know I need some more work. Who knows, maybe next time we come across each other, you can give me some pointers," with a chuckle. Without a number to give however, he had no way of getting into contact to them, but took any numbers given to him to put in later.

Still, part of him wanted the day to end. Any more adventure would kill the moment. Climbing into the copter that would take them to Barley, he laid down on the seats, waiting to get some much needed rest.

Lizzie's Lovlies

Lizzie went to the helicopters, hoping that she was unnoticed. There were a lot of things on her mind, and she really did not want to share them. Looking back at the trip, Lizzie thought that it was, to a certain extent, fun.

"Isn't it strange, Riolu?" Lizzie asked, as she sat down in the helicopter going to Barley, "I think that all the times when lives were in danger were strangely fun. Maybe there is something wrong with me." Riolu did not respond. It took a while for Lizzie to notice that it had fallen asleep. Lizzie took the Riolu off her shoulders and placed it on her lap.

"I think I know what I want to do now," Lizzie whispered, "I think... I am just going to enjoy the trip. Gyms, contests, those aren't important. It's all about working with you guys." Lizzie thought a bit about the other trainers. From what she had seen, they were mostly nice, but Lizzie was still scared and unsure. "They might not like who I am, though..." Lizzie whispered again. She looked around, realizing that she had admitted something she shouldn't have. Lizzie clutched the feather in her pocket, hoping that no one had heard her.

"Ahh." Malcom said sheepishly as Daniel asked to share numbers.
"I don't have a phone. I should really get one soon... I'll take your number though and write it down for when I can."

Malcolm took his notebook and a pen from his bag and scribbled the number down, before stuffing the paper back inside and throwing it over his shoulder.

"Thanks anyway, I'm sure I'll see you again soon. I need to get that photo after all!"

Malcolm said goodbye to everyone and made his way over towards the helicopters. Despite all that had happened he was sad that it had come to an end, but it had definitely been an adventure. It was a shame that the event couldn't have panned out properly though, especially since they were so close to getting all the tags. Bah, so close to winning a grand prize arranged by someone with seemingly unlimited wealth.

"Right, bye everyone! Have a safe trip! C'mon Herc, say goodbye," Daniel said, waving as his friends headed off. Hercules just waited behind Daniel for his trainer to be finished moving and hollering over the helicopters. Geb, however, climbed out of Daniel's hoodie and onto his shoulder and waved a claw at the other trainers politely.

"Well guys," Daniel said at last. "I think it's time that we headed home and...uh, actually started our pokemon journey. Don't you think?" The nincada and the machop both nodded their agreement and Daniel led the group to one of the copters. He helped Hercules in first and then climbed in himself. The trio made themselves comfortable for the ride home as the copter lifted off.

From the sky, the mountain looked even more majestic and beautiful. Now Daniel knew that the mountain could also be deadly. I survived two avalanches in one day! Daniel thought cheerfully. I should be dead! He felt pleased and thankful, reflecting on his adventure which had been equal parts fun and frightening. He thought about the mysterious bird, who's love and compassion for humans and pokemon had saved them all. What he did not think about or even remember, was the three tags that he carried from their mission. He'd remember them some time after he got home and he'd store them together with his rainbow feather. To him, their value was that of a keepsake and a cherished memory. He'd had an experience that even trainers much stronger and smarter than him would kill for, and these tokens would always bring him courage even in his darkest hour. They would forever serve as a reminder of what could be accomplished with the power of friendship.

Daniel and his pokemon dozed off on the way back to Gigarte despite the loud sound of the spinning copter blades. They would need to go home and rest for a few days so that they could be at full strength when they were really ready to leave Gigarte for their big journey. "Magikarp," Daniel muttered sleepily, "We gotta catch one..."

Sweet Team

Joey looked around at the evaporating snow around him that seemed so unreal, and the enveloping warmth that accompanied confirmed his suspicions. This was the end. This was how it felt to die. Across from him, Darryn looked just as mesmerized, and his two rejuvenated fire Pokemon joined his side in a welcome embrace. Back on solid ground devoid of snow, Joey's Seel flopped his way over joyfully, pushing his two companions in their Pokeballs. In a quick movement, he bumped each Pokeballs' buttons to release a tussled looking Pidgey and a dancing Igglybuff in time to hear the cry and see the majestic savior flying above them, a Pokemon that Joey recognized as Ho-Oh from a fairy tale book. Claw looked up in devoted awe, all negative feelings he ever held washed away by the warmth, and Kimiko called up to it enthusiastically, while Jet looked to the sky with a grin and flopped his tail against the ground.

Rainbow colored feathers gleamed in all imaginable and unimaginable colors while they twisted, turned, and danced through the sunlight as they fluttered to the ground. A gust of wind pressed one of the feathers to Joey's chest, and he gently closed his fingers around the base. He got down on one knee and brought the feather down to Kimiko's level. Instead of instinctively cuddling the feather in a way that would ruin it, Kimiko just calmly looked upon it with respect and cooed in admiration. Jet and Claw also looked upon the feather, and Claw's expression clearly glowed more deeply than anyone's, and he opened his wings to look upon his own feathers.

Joey heard a girl calling for everyone's picture. It was the same girl that rode next to him on the Meganium. He recalled his Pokemon into their Pokeballs and hurried over. Everyone seemed already aligned, and though he wished he could stand next to Darryn, the only person he knew, he was quickly reminded that all the spots around him were taken. Joey contemplated just staying out of the picture, but he resolved himself to squeezing in at the end. The picture was taken, and everyone dispersed to their separate helicopters. Joey started heading towards one, then he remembered his clumsy arrival. Where was the Drifblim? Almost as if on cue, a basket landed about 10 feet away which was supported by the complacent Drifblim, and Joey vaulted himself into the basket that was a little too high for him. He motioned for the Drifblim to wait until all the helicopters had ascended and traveled away before they would rise, for safety concerns. Also, Joey wanted just a little more time to absorb the scenery, and the view of the castle.

PANE: Darryn Kellor

Darryn rolled his eyes and broke open a fresh set of pearly whites, linking his arm with Pan’s as they headed for the helicopter. Oddly, Lady stayed with Jaima and the others, giving her master a bit of alone time with his friend. Darryn enjoyed the familiar scent of his old friend’s hair, her weight pressing against his side, and couldn’t help but steal a few moments to reminisce over their history back in Celadon. It was true, they had gone on a date… once… but they had been such good friends afterwards that Darryn couldn’t believe he had been lazy enough to lose contact with the budding archaeologist as soon as he moved away.

“What’s that look for?” Pan look up, searching Darryn’s face. “You’re doing that thinking thing with your eyebrows again.”

“I am?” Darryn sighed to himself, reminded yet again of how well he and Pan used to know each other – how well they still did!

“Yeah… Is everything alright?”

Darryn sighed. No. It wasn’t alright. Evil gangs like Team Deception were out there ready to attack any young trainer on a whim. If that happened to Pan and he wasn't there...

“Do you want me to come with you?” Darryn asked with a frown, drawing Pan tighter to him, “I mean, you’re not travelling in a group like mine and it must get lonely out wherever it is that you go…” Pan stopped walking and pulled Darryn up short. She fixed him with a stern frown.

“Look, you.” She sucked air through her teeth with exasperation. “I can look after myslf just fine! Don’t you go all mushy on me now!”

“But I-”

“You and butts are a common recurrence, huh?” Pan stuck out her tongue. Darryn laughed. “I appreciate what you’re saying, Daz, but I’ve got to say no – your journey is through the bright lights of big cities and mine is in some dig site somewhere waiting to find the next best fossil – not the next top model. We’re worlds apart when it comes to what we want for our time here in Furoh and I don’t want to be the one to take away from your experiences.”

“You wouldn’t!” Darryn protested.

“Oh my God, denial really is your thing, isn’t it?!” Pan laughed. She linked arms with Darryn again and they headed for the helicopter. “You know me, Daz, I’ll be fine with a pick and a Pokeball – don’t you worry – and if you ever want to talk, we can always get in touch with each other.”

“I guess…” Darryn gave Pan an extra squeeze. “Just make sure you do this time – I am not losing touch again!”

“Deal!” Pan nuzzled her head into his neck.

“And start using conditioner.” Darryn muttered, pulling up next to the closest helicopter and lifting Pan’s bag inside.

“Yes, sir!” Pan droned sarcastically, jumping to the seat in the helicopter. “Where are you and the others headed?”

“Petropolis.” Darryn grinned, running hand through his glossy chestnut hair. “To get Ribbon number two, baby! And you?”

“An underground town!” Pan practically beamed. Darryn shook his head with disbelief.

“Gigarte? That’s where my folks are now! You should go see them!”

“Nope, not Gigarte – this little somewhere at the foothills of Mount Carello. It’s a hike from the drop-off point but it’ll be worth it.” Pan assured him.

“OK, well call when you reach the Pokemon Center there – I’ll be staying at the one in Petropolis for a little while before we make the next move.” Darryn smiled up fondly at his friend. Somewhere, somehow, he knew they would find each other again and have to catch up anew. The returned smile came with a bolt of shimmering emotaglows that made Darryn want to sing right there and then. In fact, he was about to comment when he was rudely interrupted.

"HEY SPARKLEBRITCHES," shouted Reilly. "We haven't got all day, you can tell her how pretty you are in an e-mail!"

“That little-”

“Oooh, keep it PG13!” Pan laughed, the rotary blade of her chopper whirring to life. “I’ll be seeing you soon, Kellor – mark my words!”

Waving goodbye to his childhood friend for the second time, Darryn watched as the helicopter rose away from him and climbed laboriously into the air. The helicopter carried another friend of his away as quickly as she had arrived since he had begun his journey through Furoh and he was growing tired of it rapidly. What was relevant for the current situation, however, was the fact that the rest of Team Rogue (and Reilly) were getting tired of him for keeping them waiting. Running to their helicopter, Darryn tried to focus on his upcoming Contest but all he could think of was the state that Pan would get into while on some underground excursion.

<She has strength.> Lady confirmed for him as they soared to the south west. <Enough to survive.>

"Thanks, Lady." Darryn whispered, kissing the soft curls atop her head. "I hope you're right."

And a Golurk

As Pan entered the helicopter, Fenrir rushed past Darryn and into the seat next to her (had it not been for his owner, Ashleigh would have chased the growlithe inside). The growlithe watched as Pan and Darryn said their heartfelt goodbyes, both acknowledging that this was only a temporary departure from their company. She would miss his voice, his touch, their adventures of long ago, and everything else she missed when he left Celedon. Even with the memories flooding back, Pan remained in good spirits, no tears lost in the moment. Knowing that Darryn had friends at his side made her feel comfortable about his own adventure. As the helicopter lifted into the air, Pan looked down to see her old friend rejoin his group, petting her growlithe as she spoke.

“Daz will be fine,” Pan said to Fenrir. “It’s not like he’s being chased by evil gangs of assassins or anything like that. What would they want with him anyways? A good time?”

She chuckled at the ridiculous thought of uniformed men coming after Darryn for “good times”. Enough of his fantasies; for he did bring up a good point. Though she would never admit to anyone (especially Daz), Pan did not like being alone. The thought of enjoying this grand adventure (or life in general) with no one to share it with didn’t sit well with her. On the other hand, she had had great success in finding random people to travel with, and Andrew was no doubt ready for an adventure. Failing that, Pan could always count on Turnip, Chi-Chi, Fenrir, and even Pivot to keep her company.

She would be just fine too…
---------------------------------------------------

Lonnie watched as all his guests departed for destinations unknown. Though not much went right, this must have been the best trainer meet-up he had ever held. The life-threatening situations, though not ideal, certainly provided the best environment for developing teamwork and relationships. As he stared across the horizon, his shiny espeon stood to his right, staring with him, towards the rainbow.

“Was all of this the vision that you saw?” Calypso asked telepathically.

“I’m not sure. There weren’t many details to base it on. Even so, we are at the dawn of a new era. The real challenges still lie before us, before them. If this has proven anything, it’s that every one of those young people are ready.”

“Excellent outlook, sir,” the espeon replied. “However, the day is growing late, and Mrs. Vonmoto will not be pleased about the turn of events.”

“Yes, best we tell Joy in person before someone else does.”

The two went over to their own waiting helicopter as they began the journey home. Lonnie eagerly changed the subject to castle renovations; there was always a new room to add…
