Global PokédeX Plus Forums _ Games _ Pokémon Quartz

Has anyone heard of this hack besides me? For those of you who haven't, or don't know much about it, Pokémon Quartz
is a ROM-hack of Pokémon Ruby with horrible Spanglish, a lot of profanity, and some of the most hilariously bad Fankémon designs I've seen (but that's mostly due to the creator's bad art skills.) An LP of the game can be found http://lparchive.org/Pokemon-Quartz/, and its TV Tropes work page can be found http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/PokemonQuartz. This is quite possibly one of the greatest sources of Pokémon fan game-related badness-induced laughter I've found. grin.gif

WARNING: The linked LP can get slightly NSFW, but it's still funny despite that fact.

I played it before and it's horrible. XD The guy didn't even bother to randomize the encounter tables or movesets or anything. He just reskinned all the pokemon to look shitty. The cries are even the same as the pokemon they're replacing. It also got really confusing on how to continue part of the way through. It's really weird because changing abilities, types, moves, evolutions, hold items, etc. is, bar none, the easiest thing you can do when hacking.

IKR? One thing that I've noticed is just how bad the English is in this hack. Granted, the hack creator, Baro, is Spanish, but still. It's not that hard to look up a word on Wiktionary and learn how to spell it right. confused.gif I noticed that he couldn't even spell marijuana right, and that's a word derived from Spanish. I'm not that great or all that knowledgeable on how to ROM-hack stuff, but if it is indeed as simple as you say, Secondhand, that just makes it more puzzling that all the 'mons easily correspond to actual canonical 'mons.

The priority was on becoming famous for making pokemon more edgy. Everything else comes second to that, I guess.

Even you can make a better hack by pure accident, I assure you. Load the ROM into an editing program, select the Pokemon you want to edit from the dropdown list, and change everything about them from the other dropdown lists and save. I did one where I made Wingull evolve into Lugia at level 20. :V

Removing trade evos? Done. Give Swampert Huge Power? Simple. Put Feebas on Route 101? No problem. Changing type effectiveness and move names is easy, too. Adding sprites is actually the harder part because you have to add so many images for one Pokemon. Front, back, shiny front, shiny back, and the two frames for the animated PC sprite. This guy probably got lazy after adding the poor artwork.

He's not the only one who's been that lazy. The rule of thumb is if the hack touts darkness or edginess, or having language or adult situations, it's a bucket of narm around his effort level.

Hmm. Sounds like something I should keep on reserve for a rainy day. I shall have to look into this one.
